Submitted for this one - at $85 probably one of the better values for what should be a decent opponent and you can ask for 4 tickets instead of two for most other games.

Duke's not just consistent at football now. The upside is slowly rising, too

In eight years at Duke, 7 is about the only number David Cutcliffe hasn't hit. He has won 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 games, with the three highest in the last three seasons.

After winning 20 games in his first five years, he's won 27 in the last three. Duke's stature hasn't been this consistently impressive since the early 1960s.

The progress in the win column is undeniable. After attending four bowls between 1955 and 2011, the Blue Devils have attended four in a row.

Win columns and spreadsheets don't always agree. On paper, Duke has been one of the most strangely consistent teams in the country. The Blue Devils ranked 104th in S&P+ in 2009 (Cutcliffe's second year) and 48th in 2013; otherwise: 75th, 71st, 74th, 70th, 73rd, and 75th.

The short version

2016 projected wins: 5.9

Projected S&P+ ranking: 51 (11 in ACC)

5-year recruiting ranking: 52 (11 in ACC)

Biggest strength: The offense is not short on big-play potential.

Biggest question mark: The offense has been short on efficiency, and there's no guarantee this will improve.

Biggest 2016 game: at Georgia Tech (Oct. 29). Duke has faded in each of the last two seasons, and this begins a stretch of three straight tossup games that will define the season.

Summary: Duke's consistency under Cutcliffe has been remarkable, and it appears depth and upside will be even stronger in the coming years. But 2016 could be a transition year before another rise in 2017 or 2018.

Duke's starting QB allegedly out for the season with an achilles injury.

Let's not dwell in the past. Time to move forward. One day at a time, one game at a time. Let's beat Duke and get back on the winning way.

I usually really look forward to saturdays in the fall. Quickly losing interest this year. We as a fan base should not accept the "we need to get back on the winning train". We should be winning against duke. It's not like winning this week is going to make any of us feel better about the team or that BVG figured something out. I am looking forward to BVG getting fired. It sucks that there are young talented coaches in this staff that get relegated to a position group role due to Kelly's ego ala Sanford and Denson. Now let's beat a team that we should.

The magnitude of stupid things said after a loss is growing with each year.

Mike Sanford is the Offensive Coordinator at Notre Dame. He does coach the QBs, but he also wears the title of Offensive Coordinator. So he's at the peak, unless you want Kelly to make him the Head Coach?

Autry Denson has been coaching for all of 6 seasons(this being his 7th) at ANY level. But he is supposed to be a coordinator now? So you think Kelly should fire Mike Sanford and promote Autry Denson?

Fvcking Kelly and his ego, holding down our good coaches!!

I think Booker needs to go also. The team was not prepared for the two point try. Complete caught out of position. It is his job to get them ready.

Is it? Is that not BVG?

I look at the improvements in kicking, punting, return game, and coverage since he's been here and they're HUGE. I think he's a good special teams coach. TE coach? That position continues to lack production.

Yes I think that is on Booker to have them ready for the fake PAT.

Also the other two special team mistakes happen to every team, by again twice in one game has to go to prep from special teams coach.

I said before. I'd rather our TEs just split time between Harry and Denbrock (although since we rarely pass to them, they could hang out with Harry more) and just hire a Special teams coach. To be an elite team we need to be elite in Special teams. Oh, and fire Booker.

That really just doesn't rise to the level of firing a coach. There have been significant improvements in special teams in the last two years, undeniable improvement.

So every unit that has flaws calls for removing the coach? I don't know how you'd hire anyone to coach college football under those conditions.

Show me a school where the offensive coordinator doesn't get nearly full reins to call plays and make nearly all decisions on that side of the ball. BK micro manages the offense too much and that has been criticized on this board for years because he touts what equates to a "schematic" advantage. Dude you had an explosive offense in a shit conference at Cincy, check the ego and let Sanford show what he is capable of.

Denson will move on soon in my opinion. He will go become a coordinator somewhere and then move quickly to a head coaching role. Never said he should be promoted just don't think he is given much respect from Kelly.

If you don't like my comments and view on Kelly's management style then ignore them. If you don't like the boards view of losses after a game then don't read it. Sounds like you take someone's opinion as a personal attack. I don't agree with you and that's fine but I'm not going to post a comment that comes off like a douchebag like you did.

I agree with you that there have been drastic improvements over the last few years. It do you think that is really due to anything coach booker has done? I don't. BK was very critical of that unit a few years ago and I think put other coaches focus and energy into help improving it.

*chuckles* when you smooth out your panties that are all in a wad, then let me know.

Sanford is calling the plays. Kelly is involved in the in-game offensive philosophy, but I don't know to what extent. And neither do you, so check your own ego and stop acting like you know what goes on on the sidelines during the game.

What inside knowledge/experience with ND football do you have, that makes you think Kelly is being disrespectful of Denson?

You criticize someone for speculating about what goes on in the sideline right after you assert as fact that Sanford is calling all the plays. Makes sense.

Thanks for the info on the play calling. I don't think Sanford calls the plays. Several articles state Kelly does or he has the last several years. I saw yesterday that denbrock had the responsibilities yesterday.

I understand how a message board works just don't appreciate swearing in reference to my post because you disagree.

If BVG is still the DC on Saturday, I will actively root for Duke's no name backup QB to put up 500 yards of offense.
