Those 4 have an outstanding record picking games. The most successful is +6 in 75 picks, 40-34-1. The next most prodigious picker is +5. There's one at an even .500. And then there's Wojo at -22 for a 26-48-1 record. He's one game above a 33% success rate.

The best part is their Best Pick rate. Collectively they are 5-15 with only one of them getting more than one of their Best Picks right.

I know! Makes me very nervous that Angelique made ND her 'Best Bet' this week. Perhaps she's picking ND -31...

Continuing with my new-found optimism...

I think we beat Stanford by at least 7 and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we won by 13+.

-Our offense is equipped to handle their defensive line pressure because Golson gets rid of the ball very quickly (see: Syracuse game).
-Koyack has a good game and makes a couple long catches up the middle.
-Hogan has a pick and a fumble
-One of our running backs breaks off a 40+ yard run. They are due.
-I think it's imperative that we defer if we win the coin toss.

Notre Dame 27 Stanford 17

Has there been reports of flu hitting the team?

just some tweets by a couple of players saying they're sick...jarron jones, stanley but someone said add sheldon day to it as well however there wasn't a tweet that i saw regarding him

BUT they also were in class yesterday so it can't be that bad

I fell bad for STANFORD. They're getting the pre-"fûck" Michigan treatment. The "ND isn't that good Michigan will win" type praise. Come Sunday they'll get the post-"fûck" Michigan treatment. "They're horrible this year"

I like this assessment here. I feel like we can come out and impress here and shut the pundits up a bit. No matter what ND does it is never quite as good as it should be to them so I have kind of come to expect the media to get a jab in whenever they can. Home field has really started to become an advantage under Kelly and I suspect that to come into play here as well. I think I like your Folston prediction here the best though. He looked very good last week in all three phases of the game as far as RB's go and was really starting to separate himself from the pack as far as I can tell. It should be a great game, but I am with you on this one. I have a quiet confidence, I am just so much more relaxed these days with Kelly as the head coach.

Was just listening to a sports talk radio show here in Georgia. One of the host stated he had Stanford over ND. He then went into a rant about how much he hates ND and then stated that he would root for ISIS over ND any day. That's kind of shocking. I understand not liking ND but damn. Anyways go Irish. It would be a perfect weekend for a big win.

That's kind of funny. I guess I could see how these extremist fans would root for ISIS before Notre Dame, they have a lot in common.

If we have a bunch of players sick with the flu come game time that changes everything obviously.

Have we ever deferred after winning the coin toss?

Never seems like it. I hate it. Should always defer unless there is bad weather coming in or some other weird circumstance like a first-half suspension of some of their defensive players.

I talked about this the other day with LAX. In this particular game, I think that we should defer, but in 90%+ of our games I think it is to our advantage to take the ball. Here's why:

- If you can have a long, sustained drive that kicks a lot of time off of the clock, you are already winning the time of possession battle.

- For a spread team, getting an early lead is imperative. It sets the tone of the game. If you are playing a "man ball" team (Stanford excluded), you force them out of their gameplan by putting them in a hole early and knocking a bunch of time off of the clock. If they try to run early and fail, then they have to start throwing the ball to catch up.

- If the above happens, our defense can focus on rushing the passer and trying to cause a turnover. Run defense becomes far less important.

I'm not debating the advantage of scoring on the first drive. The problem is Notre Dame never seems to do it. Starting with the ball in the second half is great because you a) always know what you need and b) You have the ball AFTER making half-time adjustments. The first half is all about your initial gameplan...which could be a poor one.

If it's not yet raining, I say take the ball. If it's raining, kick it.

All things equal, I think our offense plays better in the 2nd half, so I'd prefer to defer, ya herrr?

Yeah, there are pluses and minus' to both. Either one you have to execute. If you defer against a spread team and they proceed to take 8 minutes off the clock and score on you, then you shot yourself in the foot that way too. Nothing works unless you execute.

I want to defer in this game because I really believe that the game will be a 21-17 or 17-10 type game. A game that will be won in the second half, not the first. I don't think time of possession will have a huge bearing on this game either. I think the team that protects the ball, causes turnovers and has more second half drives will win the game. Those items, in particular the last one, all point to taking the ball first in the second half, imo.

I would defer as well. But it's a moot point since, as PANDA FAN pointed out, Kelly said ND will always take the ball.

Brandon Wimbush is apparently visiting this weekend.

Brandon Wimbush

That's kind of random. Is he visiting us, or just going to the game to watch Stanford? I know there are a lot of CB's for him to Stanford, but I don't even see anything where we have shown interest.

Doesnt 7 points on the first drive of the game counts just the same as 7 points on the last drive? I agree with Wooly's comment that it really just comes down to execution though. I also prefer to defer, but particularly in this game I can understand wanting the ball first. The tree has struggled on offense...I'm sure their players are aware of that. If we take the ball, execute and put 7 on the board that puts a lot of pressure on a team that isn't scoring many points.

On the flip side, if out D comes out first and executes, then the O puts up points, even better.
We know the Irish can throw a punch, this is likely to be the first game where we get to see if they can take one. Love this team's leadership and tenacity. I am confident.

I don't think the staff would let him visit if they didn't have any interest

GK/Wooly - Even when we have taken the ball to start the game and not done well. We have usually at least got 1 first down. I am ok with them taking the ball because at minimum we can start the field position battle on the right end.

I think since BK has been here the defense has been really good when you give them the whole field. Especially against a team like Stanford. The more field they have the more likely some miscue is going to happen.

Take the ball, hope you score to set the game up in your favor, but at minimum get a first down or two and a real good punt.
