I'm honestly shocked we're more than a TD favorite.

I'm honestly shocked we're more than a TD favorite.

Why? Duke was just beat by Northwestern by double digits. A Northwestern team that was beat by Western Michigan and Illinois St.

I am surprised the spread is -21.5 but I also could see ND winning by two touchdowns or more.

Duke Lost to Wake forest by 14. I am going to go out on a limb and say we should cover.

Northwestern came out and had 320 yards receiving. I would imagine or at least the smart thing to do would to come out slinging like we did when we were down against Michigan State build a nice 3 touchdown lead then get the run game going.

This. We should do this every game though. Unfortunately if I'm an opposing OC I'm doing this too. Run the ball 10-15 times a game and the rest is slinging the ball all over the field. It's not like we can stop it. Can't cover and certainly can't get pressure on the QB.

Is it? Is that not BVG?

I look at the improvements in kicking, punting, return game, and coverage since he's been here and they're HUGE. I think he's a good special teams coach. TE coach? That position continues to lack production.

Sherminator said:
Yes I think that is on Booker to have them ready for the fake PAT.

Also the other two special team mistakes happen to every team, by again twice in one game has to go to prep from special teams coach.

That really just doesn't rise to the level of firing a coach. There have been significant improvements in special teams in the last two years, undeniable improvement.

I agree with you that there have been drastic improvements over the last few years. It do you think that is really due to anything coach booker has done? I don't. BK was very critical of that unit a few years ago and I think put other coaches focus and energy into help improving it.

I'm with Sherm and gkautz here. I seriously doubt any advances we've had on Special Teams has had anything to do with Booker and everything to do with Sanders and Yoon. Do we credit Booker with Yoon's leg and Sanders' speed? It's not like Yoon was an average talent and Booker made him good. Same with Sanders. If you want to look at Booker's effect on the game, look at how poorly we've covered on kickoffs and punts in recent years. Coverage hasn't been all that great, at least not consistently. That bowl game against the Buckeyes last year was a great example, they destroyed us in starting field position in large part because of special teams. That's certainly not the only game, it's just an example.

as to the who should have had to guys ready for the two point conversion.

Just in my personal experience the D Coordinator would walk through what to do against certain formations for the FG block team and their back ups. It was specifically covered in detail on our Thursday/Friday practices.

So while we may have got caught with the wrong personnel on the field they should have at least went over similar scenarios.

Joe Schmidt would have had them lined up properly!

I am very pessimistic about the state of the program but don't really see how people could seriously think we are likely to lose at home to Duke. They are possibly the worst team on our schedule. Navy and Army seem like more difficult opponents at this point. If we lose this game the wheels have completely fallen off and we are in full on dumpster fire territory.

I'm here also. beating Duke by 21 or by 40 does nothing to increase moral (IMO). Michigan State was a measure stick game, which we failed. Stanford and Miami will be the next games that can prove any growth of this team. We lose any games other than those and the wheels have fallen off of what has proven to be, at best, an average team

I just have a feeling that this game turns out to be like NorthWestern game in 2015. Just the feeling I have in my gut.

Just be thankful Duke is not very good this year - b/c Cutcliffe usually has them coached up and exceeding their talent level substantially. Really too bad he had those health issues many moons ago when had him lined up to be an assistant at ND.

That Northwestern team was bad and it was an awful loss, but they at least went 5-7 with a couple other respectable wins over Wisconsin and Penn St. I could easily see this Duke team finishing 2-10. If they were any better I would be concerned, but Duke is just too bad.

WTH is BK talking about during this presser? I don't have time to embed all the tweets coming out from ND media, but some of BK's answers seem off to me.

Not worried about run game. (You only got 57 yards against MSU).
Kizer needs more urgency. (Don't you want your QB to maintain and even keel throughout the game?)
Plan when defenses struggle - Score more points - Refuses to work with defense unit. (Really?)

This is innovative stuff! I love the 1/4 of the season adjustments the staff is making, really putting in the mans hours to come up with great ideas!
