I don’t want this to sound like sour grapes because I actually want BK to succeed there generally speaking, but I am struggling to find 6 wins on that schedule.

FSU- Toss Up
Southern- Win
Mississippi State- Toss Up
New Mexico- Win
@ Auburn- Loss
Tennessee- Toss Up
@ Florida- Toss up
Ole Miss- Toss up
Alabama- Loss
@ Arkansas- Toss up
UAB- Win
@TAMU- likely loss

3 guaranteed wins, 2 definite losses and 1 likely loss, 6 toss ups. Could see a 4-0 start or could very easily see them at 2-8 going into UAB.

Wow, no FCS opponents…impressive b/c LSU usually has one. BK hasn’t faced an FCS opponent in at least 12 years.

Lol GTFOH. All my Vbucks are yours if this is the case. I can see a small possibility of BK being humbled pretty quickly, realizing how difficult the situation is going to be, and maybe going into cruise control similar to 2016, but 0% chance they are 2-8 after 10 games.

2-8 isn't happening, but 6-4 is a strong possibility.

I would have agreed with you until the details came out of how he left.
  • Visiting a recruit in home and leading them astray while he's working on a new lucrative deal elsewhere, then straight up lying about it afterwards. Oh, and he had three helpings of a home cooked meal, slow-cooked brisket burnt ends, no less. That's bush league.
  • Seeing the video of him addressing the LSU players for the first time and calling out the enhanced talent level of the players just hours after addressing the ND guys for a whole two minutes. You were 2-0 against LSU here you chump.
  • Then the whole fake accent thing (so cringy. Just be yourself dude)
  • Pretending he's going to give two shits about academics and RKGs at LSU (can't blame him for wanting an easier path, that is a tough hurdle at ND but don't lie about it, we know better).
If he would've left it as simple as "it was a ton of money and a great opportunity for me to win a championship, new challenge for me and my family" it would've gone over better. Not to mention the abysmal timing of it all....even in hindsight now that we are the first team out, that was BS.

BK brought this program back from the dumps but that doesn't mean we have to pretend he's a good guy. He's a politician and for all of the good he did on the field the past five seasons, he proved it was all a façade. Compare his character to Freeman. BK does it for show, Freeman is genuine.

We can be grateful for the past five seasons of success he gave us and also realize, he's kind of a POS, and hope to see LSU's program burn to the ground. Figuratively speaking, of course.

BK will have the same success he had in SB, but that won't be good enough for LSU. 9/10 win seasons while getting smacked every year by Bama and losing to A&M, Ole Miss or Auburn here and there. ND was happy BK won 1 big game and that was in OU in what 2012? My prediction is... He gets fired between year 3 and 4 or canned in the middle of year 4 after Arkansas beats them at home by 20.

I like this take. It’s where I’m at. He may make it to 5 years but if they were ready to shitcan Ed two years after a NC BK better produce

I get the temptation to assume Kelly's LSU tenure will be plagued by the same short-comings we suffered through with him, but I'm certain he's not thinking about it in those terms.

Les Miles and Ed Orgeron both won titles at LSU, and Kelly's a much better coach than either of them. Simple as. The program naturally accumulates title-caliber talent every 3-5 years, so he just needs to stick around long enough for that to happen so he can take his shot.

I don’t think 2-8 is likely at all. If things don’t go right from the start and they lose to FSU, they could easily start 2-8. Idk what’s so crazy about that. Their schedule isn’t easy in the first ten games outside of Southern and New Mexico. I think most likely scenario is they go 6-6 or 7-5, and that’s in no way an indictment on Kelly because he’s inheriting a mess.

I don’t know. Kelly will learn quickly that to be successful he has to up his recruiting game. It’s going to be a tough sale to momma if he isn’t sitting in her living room selling himself as much as the program. He will get his share of in state players as they want to play for LSU. But I think he loses too many to Saban, Jimbo, and Lane and his time at LSU will be viewed as a bad hire. Them corn dogs ain’t gonna take 8-5 seasons very well and that’s where I see them headed. BK is a better coach but momma knows a genuine accent when she hears it.

As a Nats fan, I can only hope this story turns out like the Bryce Harper saga...

Someone near the top of his profession (yet never fully embraced by the fans) gets overpaid & leaves for greener pastures...spurned team wins a title immediately...player posts decent #'s but never participates in a playoff game.

My dog is better at X's and O's than Miles and Orgeron, so that's a low threshold to clear. The real question is if kids in the South will "accumulate" for a Boston Democrat? Miles and Orgeron were players' coaches and had personalities that fit Baton Rouge. Kelly looks like a fat turd that got an MBA from Boston College and owns a local Allstate agency. I'm not sure he's going to connect well enough with recruits in the South to convince them to come to LSU and then stay at LSU.

True. Culturally, he's a square peg in a round hole. And he's definitely going to have to recruit better than he did in South Bend.

I wouldn't bet against him yet though.

Outside of any transfers/injuries/decommits - Rivals has/had LSU ranked in recruiting that Kelly is inheriting:

2019 - Ranked 3
2020 - Ranked 4
2021 - Ranked 4
2022- Ranked 30 - guessing EdO leaving and BK there now why so low, but BK could bring some in to improve but, I would highly doubt he breaks the top 10 for 2021 - who knows?

Recruited Durham Smythe, Nic Weishar, Tyler Latua, Alize Mack, Brock Wright & Cole Kmet.

Did his job on the trail and the production was as much the scheme / QB's NEVER-EVER looking at TE's fault as it was any coaching he did.

Booker had an embarrassment of riches at the TE position to work with, but he just was not a good TE coach. He road the coattails of Bernie Parmalee a bit after he coached up a lot of NFL guys. The talent kept coming and was even more impressive, but the results dropped off. Once Booker was out the TE position flourished almost immediately. It's no coincidence.

Head coaches longevity anywhere is directly correlated with their hires at coordinator and assistant positions. BK first was almost shitcanned here five years ago because of this and then eventually set the wins record because of this. He whiffed on a few hires and then hit the jackpot on some over the last couple seasons.

If he hires guys that understand the south and can connect with the type of kids that LSU recruits, he’ll be successful there. He’s going to have to go far outside his comfort zone and coaching tree to do so, most likely. The biggest question for me is, will his ego allow him to do so? Hiring Frank Wilson made me think yes, but then he jettisons Faulk and Raymond. He’s going to have to really hit on this first staff to make this work, especially if he’s getting rid of guys that recruits gravitate toward.

Any catch the dig at BKs newfound accent on the recent inside the garage podcast when they were making their bowl predictions on the Georgia/UM game? I lol'd.

BK is also just an odd fit in Baton Rouge. Weird timing to fix this class. He better hope the Louisiana volunteers can hold on until the Louisiana Regulars can deploy.

He has to beat Bama once within in his first two seasons or dude is gone.

I'm pretty sure he gets 80 or 90% of his full contract if they buy him out, unless it's with cause. If he has a few bad seasons what are the odds some hot co-eds are hired to seduce BK?

He will have his quarterback in Walker. Also in a strange way ND does really well will put pressure on BK.
