I think pat was just an internet tough guy, of marginal intelligence, and a troll. I applaud people for standing up for what is right, not for just blinding standing up and saying that there is no fuckin' way that their view could even possibly be wrong. That was the way I saw pat; he wasn't some kind of working class hero, or any other such noble crap. He was a small minded guy who thought that he was the smartest guy in every room that he walked into.

But your experience was obviously different from mine. I'm not trying to convince you that pat was something different than what you saw him as, or that you should be some kind of conformist. I'm just offering my own personal view of pat. And, based on my view, I say "Good riddance".

He definitely lacked tactfulness, but I'm not casting the first stone there because I do to a degree too. I don't think he's marginally intelligent, I think he's pretty successful in his private life and I think he's probably a really cool guy. I can't argue with you on the tough guy, I too don't appreciate when people offer their opinions as fact. He'd get fired up a lot, but that's part of why I thought he was hilarious. I always imagined him acting like Charlie Kelly during Irish games, lol.

Edit: There's no point in me defending Pat, because I'm not a mod and so I'm oblivious to how hard it is to moderate a message board. I can't quantify his distraction with any accuracy. Like I said, as a poster I thought he was hilarious. But I'm a poster.

Pat's biggest mistake was taking on a mod. You punch a civilian, you're just an asshole. You punch a cop, you're an asshole sitting in jail.

*Mods do a great job here. Love how they encourage debate, allow it to get heated, but not allow full fledged pissing matches like other boards do.

Not a comment on Irishpat or kmoose, just a musical flashback.

I still think the ban for life is a bit much. I also thought banning Kuehnja for a week was a bit much.

And I have no sympathy for mods as it is 100% voluntary.

But they do it for the betterment of the site, and they do it basically for us. On this day especially, I'm thankful for the mods and the work they put in.

This is just a d!ck comment. Do you also have no sympathy for firemen and EMTs who offer their services free of charge?

*** DISCLAIMER: I am not saying that IE moderation = saving lives ***

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone, but I gotta ask....where do firemen and EMTs work for free?

No matter, I think highly of firemen and EMTs.

A lot of towns have volunteer firemen and/or EMTs. The town I grew up in happened to have both.

Wow...I kind of disagree. I'm sure that some of the mods truly enjoy their role but I still appreciate them because it does take a lot of time and effort to provide the service they provide. I couldn't do what they do...nor would i want to. Power can be dangerous so I'm glad that they consult with each other when making most of their banning decisions.

Oh yeah, that's very true. I forgot about that.

Well I hope all our first responders had a great thanksgiving.

Sorry but no its earned. When you act like an asshole you deserve to have the shit that comes with it. All he did was troll and post inflammatory comments. He shoulda been banned Purdue week and mods let him off the hook there. I say fuck him.

Yup. We gave him a million chances. Gave him all kinds of warnings and previous short "cool off" ban. All of the mods were in consensus agreement as far back as the beginning of November that it had gotten to the point of no return and he had to be axed. To be specific, a moderator gave him an infraction and yet another warning to clean up his posting on November 2nd, and we discussed within that thread what to do the next time he crossed the line, because he was clearly not getting it. Then he crossed the line in the Yeargin thread where he capped off his trolling by calling me a "fucking schizo."

The vast majority of this board thinks like you do and is happy to be free of the nuisance. Almost all of the half dozen or so people who are "#FreePat" frequented the political threads where his posting was far more "authentic." His unending intentionally inflammatory BS in football threads is why he is gone. His frequent rules violations, disregard for all warnings, and pathetic trollish posting pattern could not be ignored after he was given so many warnings to shape up.

Those that think he should've been given a warning and yet another chance either don't appreciate the number of chances he was already given or the magnitude of his crap. Or they don't care. Shrug.

I'm happy to go round and round with people on this because you deserve to know the reasoning behind decisions that can affect you. But to those thinking this was some sort of snap decision or that Pat got a raw deal and that something you say/do will change the current situation... you're sadly mistaken. We don't do anything like this without exhausting all other options and giving MANY warnings/chances to reform. Don't like it? Then take heed of warnings, or better yet play by the rules in the first place.

Happy Thanksgiving.

You shouldn't have to keep explaining your reasoning - once is enough. If people don't get it by now, they never will. Like you said - the majority of the users here are indifferent, but understand it was necessary. Some will argue til the last for the sake of nothing more. The rest of us are reveling in his absence lol

This is very interesting to me.

I say we all made IrishPat what he was. There was nothing but tremendous positive encouragement to develop the way that someone described a few posts ago; provocative, attacking, but not responsive to the points of the conversation.

I have no perspective on Pat or that situation that hasn't been stated better by dshans, Grahambo, kMoose, or OMM, but there is an important conversation to be had here.

It involves those that confuse conversation with argument; or at least multiple definitions of argument : "a discussion in which people express different opinions about something." Or : "a statement or series of statements for or against something."

Arguments on this site are more often : "an angry disagreement." Must be for the drama on the internet where our words reach but our bodies don't; otherwise there would be more big mouth knock outs, and more tongues stuck to the metal pole in winter!

Thanks for the neg rep BGIF.

I think its my 2nd one all-time.

I vote we make 'craziest neg repper' an IE award.

I've gotten some puzzlers, but none worse that OMM's red bomb for putting 'Cam McDaniel - Day to day - injured ego' in the 'injury update' thread, right after Cam went backwards through the machine and it made its way onto the internet lol.

I didn't call him out publicly at the time, because I didn't want to be dramatic. But he continued to neg rep me on the weirdest of things so I stopped trying to protect his.... whatever you want to call it.

It's not gonna happen. There wasn't another poster that needed to be monitored more than Pat. I am sure he is a good dude but just too volatile/inflammatory/aggressive to continue posting here.

music to my ears, thank you.

Kuehnja: do you really want to make this a personal and public war? I've kept my opinions on your _____ non-public so far, as is proper form in neg rep disagreements on IE. Maybe we should let the mods or JPham weigh in on your great new idea of public name-calling on the board??

Good thing you waited until a big argument about banned users to publicly call him out, because that's not being dramatic at all.

It's laughable that you think anybody, especially a well respected guy like OMM, would need your "protection".

If you are getting neg repped by a salt of the earth type dude like, OMM… then maybe it's you that is the problem? If I ever got neg repped by OMM, I would see that as a clear sign that i'm being an imbecile.

If you guys haven't gotten a neg rep from BGIF, you haven't been around long enough or opinionated enough.

That being said, I think he is fair and consistent in his reasoning for using the function.

He also doesn't hold grudges.

Proof is he and my relationship.

Pull up your big boy pants boys. If you have a controversial opinion, know you may receive one. Or four. It goes with the territory of trying to bring back ghosts.

As long as your objectivity with where this is going doesn't infringe upon others, you're good.

But as soon as you start knocking mods for disagreeing and being hateful towards them, realize you've opened up a neg rep wormhole.

As far as Koontah Kentay not getting over a neg rep from OMM, really bro? Would you seek to call out your awesome granddad for a belt whooping? Maybe tell mom?

Wow.
