Don't look now, but one-loss Notre Dame controls its own destiny as far as a College Football Playoff berth is concerned, Paul Finebaum says.

"Notre Dame has a great loss against Georgia and they have the schedule in front of them,” Finebaum said. “Now, the schedule is brutal. Do I think they’ll get through that? No, but they’re in position (to play they’re way in) with a loss.”

Huh? A) They don't B) Did Finebaum actually say that?

ND's in good shape with a great loss and killer SOS ahead but they don't control their destiny.

Bama, Clemson, PSU, UGA, UDub, Wisconsin and Miami control their destiny. Everybody else including undefeated Wazzu and TCU needs help.

4 of those teams would play each other and we play Miami so yes, in all likelihood, we control our own destiny.

That's not how that works. Doesn't matter if they play each other. There are undefeated teams in all 5 conferences, ND is not getting in ahead of an undefeated TCU this year and an undefeated TCU could be playing a 1 loss ND on Jan 1 if Clemson, Bama, PSU and UDub run the table.

In controlling your destiny, there is... You do and You don't, there is no in between..

Finebaum has never been anti-ND, people here just get butthurt because he's the SEC guy, i.e. he does his job.

But no, Finebaum did NOT say we control our own destiny. He said we're "in good shape." Some dumbass blogger put words in his mouth.

If I never see Finebaum's face or hear his voice, it will be too soon. He's as "planned" (and therefore dishonest) a commentator as there is on major TV. I've heard him say plenty of prejudiced things about all manner of teams not in the SEC. I do not believe that I've ever heard him say a "natural" take on anything --- it's all scripted for his base audience. It "works" for his pocketbook (and ESPNs), but that doesn't mean I have to admire it.

Bet you never heard of Finebaum until Alabama's winning run....

False. That term is used in an all likelihood manner. If you want to take the strictest definition, no one controls their own destiny because a committee votes on who gets in based on their own opinion. There's no, if you go undefeated you are automatically in rule.

Finebaum is a smarmy douche. As has been alluded...he.is.the.worst.ever.

I mean, geez, at least Cowherd CAN BE funny...and at times credibly genuine.

There is absolutely NO MOMENT EVER when Finebaum is genuine, and it is completely obvious.

He is 100% WWE...seems like the mother ship has a gig for him after he finally gets run from college football.

Finebaum is part of the reason espn is losing so many viewers

Finebaum is a tool but..... I don't see him as being a major factor in subscription decline (unless you want to add him into the bucket of bad programming). The SEC homers love him, and some of his callers are funny as shit. I think the primary reasons are 1) people cutting the cable, 2) too much political BS, and 3) bad programming.

I can get almost anything I want via Kodi, but I don't (too lazy). I have a few friends that have totally made the cut and are quite happy.

Me personally, it's 2 and 3. I used to watch ESPN all the time. Now the only thing I watch are games, and Mike and Mike occasionally. I probably wouldn't watch Mike and Mike if I weren't an ND fan. I simply got tired of all the political crap and starting going elsewhere. Can't I just get some simple sports without all the PC and anti-right messaging?

All the sports networks have their team or conference bias turds, Finebaum is just ESPN's favorite.

In their first twenty years or so, I lived for ESPN's broadcasts but there was no internet, few other options and now there are both. I agree with their "analysts" using the various shows as a political platform, that's not what I tune in to hear.

I bite the bullet when they're the only option for a game I want to see but I'll mute the TV and listen to the analysts on internet radio or follow along on a message board.

Correct, he's never been anti-ND. But he's bug time anti-BK. And I think a lot of people see that as anti-ND being he's the coach.

As they should be. AP is the only poll worth following IMO.

UPI poll has always been the best. Oh wait a minute. They closed up shop a long time ago.

#16 is fine right now. As long as we keep winning, we'll move up and will be hard to ignore.

ESPN saying we’re slight underdogs against Miami and Stanford (roughly 45% chance of winning) but significant favorites (75%) against USC. Anyone know why?

No he's not. And neither is Jemele Hill or whatever. There are just as many viewers who like those people and their views as dislike them. Same as Notre Dame or the Yankees.

ESPN's losing viewers because cable's expensive, highlights are everywhere and there are more/better streaming options available all the time. That's all.

Bruh, SC6 saw a ratings decline SVP's SC saw ratings go up over the same period. Jemelle Hill isn't why they're losing *subscribers* but she absolutely is a reason why they've lost *viewers*

Looking forward to SC, should be a lot of fun and is my annual pilgrimage to South Bend. Looking forward to seeing everything. Tough going from here on out but there's no team remaining that we can't beat. Not saying we will, but every game is winnable. Real happy where the program is and hopefully heading. Elko is the man, we wear people out with the run. Like the formula.

I will continue to be pissed about Wisconsin in the top-10 until they finally lose like the frauds they are, or until the playoff committee drops them out of the top-10 because of their shit schedule.

Their best win is UTAH STATE. LOL WUT.

They haven't played anyone, and they WON'T play anyone except scUM (who might not be good), and then whoever comes out of the other half of the B1G for a conference championship.

Most fraudulent top-10 team ever?

I'm more concerned with USC and Stanford than Miami. I know the U has talent, but they still haven't beaten anyone. They barely beat a 1-2 FSU. I haven't watched any of their games so maybe I'm missing the eye test.

If Bama/Auburn/UGa, Clemson, PSU/Wiscy, and UDub/Wazzu win out, how does 11-1 ND get in?

The Irish need help = The Irish do not control their own destiny.

Can we stahp with this already? You're arguing over whether Finebaum is right or wrong over something he never said. Nobody said "ND controls its own destiny." Some blogger at 24/7 misquoted Finebaum.
