Wonder how Elston is feeling
Wonder how Elston is feeling
I'm not a Bears fan.well here's one bears fan that didnt want harbaugh lol
I'm not a Bears fan.
Dan Pompeii did a piece on The Athletic basically saying Harbaugh was worth the money and worth giving control to. He's beaten Ohio State once at Michigan and has lost his last five bowl games, rivalry games and bowl games being the stuff that these pundits seem to point to.
We're talking about the NFL Chicago franchise, who to me from the outside looking in, has had some serious issues when it comes to hiring and decision making. The owner fired one of her sons once before and has another son in there now who probably should lose his job too.
So how did the public perception of Harbaugh change after winning just one game? A year ago nobody was giving him NFL shout outs and now he's the darling of everyone from the Raiders to Vikings to Bears to Dolphins. Weird.
Harbaugh finally beating OSU and making a post-season appearance gave the pundits permission to look at his whole resume again. The guy that brought Stanford to national relevance and took the 49ers, who hadn't had a winning season or playoff appearance since 2002, to three straight conference championship games and one Superbowl, was a terrifyingly competent coach. UM will never find another candidate who looked as good on paper as Harbaugh did.I'm not a Bears fan.

he was already taking a pay cut to go to SCUM anyways lolI think Mike had to know this was possible.
It wouldn’t surprise me if UM has an internal succession plan in place, and Elston knows something we don’t. Maybe not. Maybe he was just petty and wanted out that bad, even if it meant he could lose his job via coaching change. He at very least had the foresight to get a guaranteed contract; maybe he’s okay taking a break.
Please don't give him any credit. He's still the village idiot.Harbaugh finally beating OSU and making a post-season appearance gave the pundits permission to look at his whole resume again. I think his struggles at UM have much more to do with how difficult it is to win in Ann Arbor than they do with Harbaugh's deficiencies.
I think he's a good coach who is not as good of a coach as he thinks he is.Please don't give him any credit. He's still the village idiot.
Unfortunately, you really do have to give Hairball credit for his coaching chops, pre whore. Dude was outstanding at stanford and in San Francisco.Harbaugh finally beating OSU and making a post-season appearance gave the pundits permission to look at his whole resume again. I think they've got the same problems Texas does-- an entitled fanbase with unrealistic expectations, meddling boosters, and a growing disconnect between the culture of the university and the culture necessary to produce winning football teams.Unfortunately, you really do have to give Hairball credit for his coaching chops, pre whore. I don't know on the last sentence. Not sure why it would be so difficult to win at michigan. ND is a tough place to win, and Burnt Ends proved you can do it. Hairball consistently brought in good recruits and consistently brought in good assistant coaches. I understand why places like miami, nebraska, fsu, and tennessee have had problems being consistent winners. I don't know why michigan would though?
My fear is that michigan goes and gets Fickell.
Would Fickell coach at UM? Maybe he would, it's very intriguing. I always felt like the dude bleeds scarlet and grey.Unfortunately, you really do have to give Hairball credit for his coaching chops, pre whore. Dude was outstanding at stanford and in San Francisco.

If hairball leaves, I can almost guarantee michigan will talk to Fickell, and that he will listen. I don't know if he will go there or not though.Would Fickell coach at UM? Maybe he would, it's very intriguing. I always felt like the dude bleeds scarlet and grey.
Part of the reason I wanted Freeman over Fickle because Freeman seems all in on ND and doesn't bleed for tOSU the same way as Fickell. I thought Freeman to be the lower flight risk if Ryan Day ever leaves / gets let go.
If not, they certainly are now with his very open and public flirtation with the Vikings. Hairball essentially did the same thing on his way out of San Fran- make the bridge untenable and burn it on the way out.Harbaugh is tough. He brings a rare intensity probably better suited to the NFL. Usually people like this wear on those around them. Admin at U of M may be tired of his antics
I will say this is a good time for Fickell to get out of UC.If hairball leaves, I can almost guarantee michigan will talk to Fickell, and that he will listen. I don't know if he will go there or not though.
michigan is certainly a top-10ish job in Fickell's profession. I don't think Fickell would stay at cincinnati and keep turning down better jobs with the hope he one day, maybe gets the osu job. I doubt Fickell builds and fulfills his career based on his perceived subjective love for ohio state.
Reading between the lines of the various articles, I'm inclined to think him leaving was as much an emotional decision since he didn't get the DC position.I think Mike had to know this was possible.

IDK, if you're Michigan could you take a coach knowing that if he's successful he will ditch you for your arch rival the moment they come knocking?Unfortunately, you really do have to give Hairball credit for his coaching chops, pre whore. Dude was outstanding at stanford and in San Francisco.

I likewise would bet on Campbell. My question is whether they view Gattis similar to how we view Freeman. Which is possible, but would also surprise me at the end of the day.IDK, if you're Michigan could you take a coach knowing that if he's successful he will ditch you for your arch rival the moment they come knocking?
FWlittleIW, if they don't just elevate Gattis my money would be on Matt Campbell.
I will say this is a good time for Fickell to get out of UC.
He just lost a lot of good players. He doesn't have Marcus Freeman to recruit anymore. He doesn't have his recruiting coordinator Brian Mason anymore. He just lost Perry Eliano who is really good schematically in regards to pass defense to tOSU.
Apparently its not Gattis that is the young internal hire candidate to compare to Freeman, but Mike Hart. It sounds like Gattis isn't a candidate, but Hart is on the short list.I likewise would bet on Campbell. My question is whether they view Gattis similar to how we view Freeman. I think Rhule is an excellent coach. He seems like the type, though, that wouldn't put up with the BS of boosters and alumni. If he were to some how end up there, I could see him being there for a season or two, then bolting.Agree, I'm a little surprised Fickell is still at Cincy after all the huge jobs that opened this cycle. (Though perhaps he has more character than some coaches in his situation.) That said, it's hard to imagine Fickell going to Michigan, of all places.
They'll promote Gattis or go after Rhule or Campbell. Of those three the only scary one (as a Michigan hater) is Rhule.
Very interesting!Apparently its not Gattis that is the young internal hire candidate to compare to Freeman, but Mike Hart. It sounds like Gattis isn't a candidate, but Hart is on the short list.
think if Bill OBrien goes to New England and Gattis goes to Bama leaving Michigan with a RB coach as a HC and no existing coordinators.Very interesting!
I am not sure how much more rope Rhule has here in Charlotte. I can definitely see him jumping back to college.I think Rhule is an excellent coach. But I also don't think he would leave his NFL job for meatshit.
