Michigan doing it’s best to not have to play Ohio state, gotta love it

Also, at what point does the playoff committee tell the big 10 to pound sand? Amount of games played has to come into play at some point

Kind of reminds me of a low budget version of the Trailer Park Boys with Cade playing the role of Julian.

I love TPB... this not so much.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

Michigan shutting it down for good?

No way Ohio state gets playing 5 games!

BIG will do something. IDK what, but they'll do something. Either change the requirements, reschedule the IL or Maryland game, or push the B10-C bac a week.

And it will be fun piling on when they do...

I hope they move mountains to play the number of games and get left out anyway on account of having 0 quality wins

Can they move the B1G C game? The CFP said their schedule is not changing, which means they are deciding on 12/20. The Conference Championships are all 12/19. I don't think the CFP committee can put OSU if they still had games to play after 12/20.

reschedule can happen, but I don't think delaying the championship game will matter. The game is scheduled for the 19th. Unless the CFP changes their dates, the 19th must stick.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story?id=30408616&_slug_=power-5-sets-postseason-plans-ensuring-final-cfp-rankings-set-dec-20

Every FBS conference has a contingency plan for determining its winner this season in the event its conference championship game can't be played during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, almost ensuring the College Football Playoff selection committee will determine its final ranking as planned on Dec. 20 without delay.

"The management committee decided earlier this month not to lengthen the regular season," CFP executive director Bill Hancock told ESPN on Saturday evening. "As folks know, many games have already been played and many others are on tap for the next three weekends. The selection committee will set the CFP pairings Dec. 20."

If the Big Ten can't play its title game, the two divisional champions will be declared co-champions and any teams ranked in the top four of the final CFP poll will automatically be placed in the playoff.

http://insider.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/30408608/college-football-playoff-takeaways-big-ten-chaos-battle-no-4-more

According to the Big Ten, a team must play at least six games to participate in the conference title game. If the average number of games played in the league drops to six or below, that benchmark will also lower.

Here's the good news for Ohio State and its fans: The CFP doesn't require teams to play a minimum number of games to qualify for a semifinal.

Here's the bad news: A 5-0 Ohio State team that doesn't have a conference title but still finishes in the top four would be difficult for the selection committee to justify -- especially with No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 6 Florida and No. 7 Cincinnati holding steady and ultimately compiling bigger and better résumés. Add to that Northwestern fumbling its opportunity in a loss to a now 2-3 Michigan State team and the Big Ten could be in a real playoff predicament. If Ohio State isn't the Big Ten's champion by playing in its title game, it's unlikely the committee would take a one-loss Northwestern or Indiana team instead.

As of today the average numbers of games played is 5.14. 2 weeks left in regular season and they currently have the NW/Minn game cancelled. If all other games played they would average exactly 7 games played. It would take another 8 games to get canceled over this week and next to get the average below 6.

Pundits are saying that if OSU doesn't qualify for the CCG they can still be looked at as an independent team much like ND would be any other year. Its entirely possible the committee looks at a 5-0 OSU as a playoff team regardless of their appearance in a CCG.

I just don't understand how anyone thinks it's valid to put a team in that played 5 games. That's criminal, and it completely undermines the entire system (as well as the sanctity of the college football regular season). It is comically easy to go 5-0 or 6-0, we've seen tons of bad Notre Dame teams do it. It's a whole different ball game to play a grueling 12 game season weathering injuries and upset bids.

Power brokers from the Big 12, ACC, and SEC need to be *strongly* pushing for Big Ten exclusion. If Ohio State is still in the top 4 of tonight's rankings I'll be disappointed.

They're missing that 13th data point. Sorry Buckeyes, but join a conference and maybe you'll get in

Ohio State's schedule:

1-4 Nebraska
1-5 Penn State
2-4 Rutgers
5-1 Indiana

Still on the schedule:

2-3 Michigan State
2-4 Michigan

The pundit's point was that a CCG is only one data point of many to consider. Not having that datapoint doesn't outright exclude a team much like ND. It makes it harder for sure but its not exclusionary.

I assume other data points would include SoS and major wins, both of which OSU lacks completely. I agree with you and I see it hard to include them over BYU or Cinncinati, but I wont be surprised they are still considered a top 5 team this week. I mean if they can be ranked #3 preseason before playing they could still be considered that after playing 5 games. I hate preseason rankings anyway but hey arent going anywhere.
