I just don't understand how anyone thinks it's valid to put a team in that played 5 games. That's criminal, and it completely undermines the entire system (as well as the sanctity of the college football regular season). It is comically easy to go 5-0 or 6-0, we've seen tons of bad Notre Dame teams do it. It's a whole different ball game to play a grueling 12 game season weathering injuries and upset bids.

Power brokers from the Big 12, ACC, and SEC need to be *strongly* pushing for Big Ten exclusion. If Ohio State is still in the top 4 of tonight's rankings I'll be disappointed.

It would be completely invalid. If they let Ohio State in they'd be setting an awful precedent (pandemic or not).

You can't let a 5-0 team in unless their schedule was Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Florida, and the '85 Bears. They haven't played anyone notable. They will have played half as many games as their peers.

I feel bad for the kids at OSU, because they probably are a worthy team, but their conference screwed them over and that is something they will need to deal with.

If they somehow get in, I never want to hear about a 13th data point ever again, because suddenly 5 or 6 data points is enough IF you are a talented blue blood program.

C'mom Michigan, put a dagger in these guys and tell them you won't play for player safety reasons.

If another team cancels on OSU then OSU is getting a new opponent.

Michigan canceling the game doesn't hurt Ohio State.

like who? It isnt like they have teams on bye weeks available. There would have to be another BIG team available to play due to a covid cancellation. Possible but I sure wouldnt be planning on it.

I agree. You can bet the Gene Smith is back-channeling some kind of contingency plan to ensure the Luckeyes get an automatic bid. They may as well represent the SEC North as their fans are just as ignorant & annoying.

I think the B1G would be willing to take apart a scheduled game to make it happen for OSU.

Probably Maryland's game since they were already scheduled to play and Maryland had to cancel.

Not surprisingly tOSU has announced that they will give it a go this weekend and start practicing today. No word on the # of positive cases.

It does beg the question: What timeline are they following as far as quarantine? I thought B1G was supposed to be the most strict.

Where I live, it‘s ten days from positive test assuming there are no symptoms after ten days & 14 days from contact if one is being quarantined.

They said they had enough players to go last week under B1G rules. They probably canceled under concerns that keeping the team together through the weekend would potentially result in enough new cases to wipe out their last two games.

Ryan Day was confirmed to be positive for COVID correct? You’re telling me he couldn’t be contact traced to a good portion of the starters even if it was through his assistants?

I think this is another group of folks in a long line of “Rules for thee but not for me”. Gene Smith & tOSU are no different than the politicians & celebrities who pretend to take this pandemic seriously but really don’t.

That's not how contact tracing works. You have to be quarantined if you were in close contact (within 6ft for more than 15 minutes in a day) with someone who has COVID.

If we started quarantining everyone who was in close contact with the people who were in close contact with a COVID positive .... half the population would have to quarantine.

B1G doesn't do contract tracing because they do the daily quick tests.

I think they believed those tests would keep them from having outbreaks by detecting them more quickly. It seems those tests aren't as reliable as they hoped.

I know how it works, my family has been quarantined multiple times for the exact situation you stated. Sorry for my clumsy sentence. I still don’t think Day didn’t spend at least 15 min in close proximity to another coach/key player while being COVID positive. He’s basically the play caller yet didn’t spend 15 minutes w/ Josh Fields? Maybe but I think it’s more likely he did.

Further, do we know that Day was the ONLY COVID positive person on the team? That can’t be the case or they would’ve played Saturday just like Bama did w/ Saban home w/ COVID.

Gotcha. Thanks for the insight.

Natural consequences. The BIG10 decided to not play but then to play after they got left on an Island with the PAC12. Let OSU play Oregon on that Island.

Never forget that Notre Dame got to a conference title game before Michigan did.

When I first read this I completely overlooked the "game" part in that sentence and it made me pause, not realizing that the B1G only first started playing a Conference Championship game in 2011 and Michigan has sucked during that period of time lol. Hell, Michigan hasn't even won a Conference Title outright since 2003. That was 4 coaches ago.

A missing senior class will do that. I try to argue with m friends that their 5 star kids aren't really 5 stars. But they have offers to Bama and Clemson and OSU. Right but do you think those are legitimate and it goes on and on. The weird part is that atleast 1 of this five star guys should pan out right? Derrick Green, Ty Isaac up to today their 5 stars really aren't at that level.

Bold comment? Which one of those 4 could actually coach?

What a pathetic program. Using Covid as a scapegoat to not have to play. They can’t even lose like men or with dignity.

Come on, now. The last three weeks we've seen 15, 18, and 14 cancellations. That's a quarter of all games. Do you think ND weaseled out of playing Wake Forest or that OSU was ducking Illinois last week?

Counterpoint: possibly denying the Buckeyes a shot at the playoffs due to cancelling the game is such sweet pettiness.
