Any job? Certainly there are some NFL teams that would still take him, but the 49ers had no interest in retaining him despite the fact he took them to a Super Bowl a few years ago. There was supposed interest from another west coast team, i don't remember who (Chargers?) but ultimately they didn't bite. Some coaches are better suited for the college ranks, and some are better suited for the pros. Saban is a good example. Same for Lou, Petrino, probably Chip Kelly, and slew of other guys that couldn't last in the NFL.

How's that working out for San Francisco. You are kidding yourself if you don't think half the NFL would be falling over to hire the guy. I agree that he's a better fit for CFB though. But unlike Saban, Petrino, and Chip Kelly, Harbaugh actually won in the NFL, and won big.

I really doubt he'll wear out his welcome at his alma-mater where he is destroying other teams that they recently lost to without him. Dude is an awesome coach. People are just hoping he isn't there for the long haul...which if I had to bet, I would bet he's there for at least 8-10 years minimum.

Almost everything he does is pure genius to me. Even when he makes some ridiculous statements, it keeps him (and scUM) in the news even in the off-season. Recruits are constantly hearing about Michigan and Harbaugh all year around. Not to mention his teams play with a toughness and grit that we only wish we had.

I live in Michigan and can't stand UM as much as anyone but the dude is a hell of a coach. That's undeniable.

The scary part is that he is only starting in terms of recruiting.

Harbaugh vs. Urbie is going to be a legendary battle going forward. ND is going to have to scrap with MSU for the leftovers.

agreed. San Fransisco has come completely apart without Harbaugh. They hadn't made the playoffs in 9 years before he got there. His first 3 years they made 3 straight NFC championships and a Super Bowl. Were a play away from winning that Super Bowl and a play away from going to 3 straight Super Bowls. Literally a play away. His last year with more players on IR than any team in the league and with reports leaking out every week that he was toast he still went 8-8.

San Fransisco went like 4-12 the year leaves and it's looking like it'll be a 1-15 or 2-14 season under Chip Kelly.

Harbaugh was actually a success on the football field, unlike Saban, Petrino or Chip.

Harbaugh was pushed out of the door bc he clashed with the GM and the Owner and he wanted more control. There was even a story out there that he told York to get out of the locker room because the locker room was reserved only for men.

Kind of similar to Jerry Jones pushing Jimmy Johnson out of the door bc of Johnson going at Jerry Jones all of the time.

York is a shitty owner. Just like Jerry Jones is a shitty owner. These guys have egos that are more important than winning.

The best owners are the ones that stay out of the way and do everything in their power to support the coach and defer to the coach and try not to mettle. See: Bob Kraft. He completely defers to Belichik and let's Belichik run the entire show. That's what a great owner does.

Why is there only room for two powers in the Midwest?

All three programs have pretty much always been good. And it means even less now considering recruiting has become national.

It matters more for Michigan State, imo. They can't recruit top prospects nationally. As great as MSU has been and as good as Danatonio is as a coach, they still can't establish a recruiting base nationally. They're not a helmet team. Being a blue blood helps you get into any kids living room. You get in the living room and can get them on campus, then you have a shot.

ND is a helmet team. They can go into any part of the country and recruit 5* and 4* kids and land them. They've done it time and time again. All ND needs is the right coach.

I think Kelly was the right guy to get them back to respectability after the Willingham and Weis years. But now it's looking like he can't get over that hump into elite and they need the right guy to get them over that hump. That might be Tom Herman.

At the end of the day, the sport is all about the coach. Michigan was complete ass for almost a decade under Rodriguez and Hoke. Harbaugh has changed that almost overnight. Alabama was a dumpster fire for a decade before Saban. It's all about the coach.

Urban and Harbaugh are about as good as it gets in terms of football coaches. I think Kelly is good, but he's just not great.

Michigan: According to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report, several NFL teams are prepared to make “mega-offers” to lure Jim Harbaugh away from Michigan. Freeman adds “He won’t take them. Harbaugh isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.” Harbaugh is currently the highest paid college head coach in the country at around $9 million a year.

He is losing a lot this year no?? I could see him taking some massive offer. I'm not expecting it, but it's within the realm of possible.

He could absolutely take it. He will lose a lot from this team and if somebody like the Colts give him a raise and GM control, why not?

why do they even need to write stuff like this lol. Breaking news! Water is wet.

Of course NFL teams are going to continually make a run at the guy. He's one of the best football coaches on planet earth and he was hugely successful in the NFL. And he's a QB master. He works miracles with QB's. And if there is one position in the NFL where coaching pays off more than any other- it's QB. Can't win in that leauge if you don't have a QB.

Unfortunately Michigan is just going to have to deal with this stuff every year. If he really wanted to be in the NFL he would've taken the offers he got from Oakland and the Jets when he left the 49ers or the offers he got this off-season.

He's soured on the NFL. He doesn't do well with the politics or with having a boss. He doesn't have to deal with the politics or with having a boss at Michigan. The new AD isn't his boss. Harbaugh is his own boss. He can literally do whatever he wants at Michigan and everyone will just go with it. His word is the word of god when it comes to that football program.

Only way he'll take an NFL job again is if he has complete control. And I highly doubt he'll ever go work for a guy like Jim Irsay. One of the biggest hindrances in Michigan trying to hire Harbaugh last go round was Dave Brandon. He did not want to work with someone like Brandon. Irsay is Dave Brandon with billions of dollars and a drug problem.

Replace NFL and Harbaugh with NBA and Bob Knight. Now we sit back and wait for the inevitable.

Even with losing to Iowa, does Michigan get removed from the top 4?

The teams that are next in line are OSU, Louisville, and Wisconsin.

Louisville Lost to Clemson (on the road)
Wisconsin lost to Michigan (on the road)

1. Alabama
2. OSU
3. Louisville
4. Wisconsin (2 loss)
5. Michigan
6. Clemson

or does the committee do something like:

1. Alabama
2. OSU
3. Michigan
4. Clemson
5. Louisville
6. Washington
7. Wisconsin

This could be one of the most intriguing and CFP rankings.

At the moment I would guess:

1 Bama
2 OSU
3 Clemson
4 Michigan
5 Louisville

But 3 through 5 could be rearranged any way you'd like except Louisville shouldn't be ahead of Clemson due to the head-to-head.

But you could make the argument that Clemson won at home/Louisville lost on the road.

I don't see Clemson being above Michigan, I think the Playoff committee was just waiting for Clemson to lose.

I see what you're saying but head-to-head trumps all in my book. I don't care where they played each other, they played and Clemson won.

I'd be salty if ND beat a team and ended up with the same record as that team and the other team won the Natty...oh wait...FSU '93 :/

I could see Clemson staying ahead of Michigan. Michigan lost to a team that lost to an FCS team. At least Pitt is halfway decent.

Our Dirty Little Secret (Big House Blog)

We all have a side of us we try to keep away from family and friends. It might be we have a few too many drink at parties or like to bet on the ponies. It's something that is always there but we hide it from our everyday life.

That something for the Michigan Football team, came out on Saturday for the entire world to see. Michigan's kryptonite has been playing road games against any type of teams. Good Defense and a running game is supposed to "travel", Michigan is yet to find that winning combination on the road. It doesn't even have to be competitive teams, we all remember the Hoke and RR years where we struggled to beat teams like UConn. We started to see it in the Michigan State game, whether we wanted to believe it or not. The other thing that had us worried is that Wilton would have a terrible game in him. I didn't know if it was going to be the weather, the location or the opponent that would make him struggle but we all worried a performance like that was coming.

Iowa is not a good football team and Michigan made them look like world beaters on Saturday night. Iowa on offense was one dimensional in running the football. The QB's only job was to hand off the football, he wasn't going to throw the ball. This is exactly what the Michigan's defense wants and they could barely stop it. As alarming as that sounds, that wasn't the story of the game.

Michigan lost this game on offense.

-- The Iowa defense has two good players and Michigan couldn't seem to block either one of them all game.....

I would say that a Michigan/PSU rematch right now would be different. I don't trust Michigan because they have played 8 home games against relatively weak competition. OSU is going to roll them in the shoe, again.

Penn State is a joke to me. Complete fraud. Probably just being a hater because I can't stand Franklin. I can agree with your last sentence tho. Probably a better game than last year but I still see OSU winning fairly easily. I think Michigan's defense will keep it closer than last year.

The response to the shock has been to turn campuses into kindergarten. The University of Michigan Law School announced a ”post-election self-care” event with “food and play,” including “coloring sheets, play dough [sic], positive card-making, Legos and bubbles with your fellow law students.” (Embarrassed by the attention, UM Law scrubbed the announcement from its website, perhaps concerned that people would wonder if its graduates would require Legos and bubbles in the event of stressful litigation.)
