Waiting for a skunkbear justification for this. Make it good, not the usual bullshit about college football being a business.

What's the total number of decommits up to? 9 and counting? That's incredible. I feel like Harbaugh got away with doing this at Stanford cause the media attention was much smaller, but U of M is whole different ball game.

Michigan Decommits

Michigan Decommits

We're up to ten decommits with more to come. I feel sorry for these kids with their dreams crushed and lies told to them. Here's a few of their commitment statements and article quotes.

Rashad Weaver - (offered at M's Miami satellite camp) His primary recruiter was Jay Harbaugh, U-M's tight ends coach and assistant special teams coach.
Coach Jay told me that they are offering me as a big athlete. They like me at both defensive end and tight end and I may even be both way guy. Coach Harbaugh was more of a conversation about us building a relationship between us two and getting me up to visit asap. He also told me how if I commit and happened to get hurt this season, then they would still fully honor my scholarship....When he said that I was amazed and he told my mom. I want to get up there asap, so I can visit and make this decision as soon as possible...My mom has a vacation coming up either the end of this month or beginning of July. That is when I would try, but it all depends on the money situation at the time.”
Weaver committed four days later. He was never granted an Official Visit to Michigan.
(Michael Dwumbour, a friend of Rashan Gary the top-ranked recruit in the nation, committed to Michigan yesterday. Gary is a Michigan lean. Both are DTs like Weaver. Harbaugh's Michigan has also scheduled an OV with another high-ranking DT, Boss Tagaloa.)

Two early commits - Matthew Falcon and Antwaine Richardson - had season-ending injuries with subsequent scholarship offers pulled or little contact until a higher-ranked recruit took their place. Matthew's mother was told by Harbaugh:
"If Matthew comes to Michigan, he will not be able to play football."
Matthew said:
But they would pay for my college education for academics. I would have to sign a waiver saying I can't play even though top surgeons told me, my family and Coach Harbaugh I will be able to get back on the field and play at a high level."
A four-star RB, Kareem Walker, decommited from Ohio State two weeks earlier and then commited to Michigan after Falcon was told he did not have a scholarship.

Victor Viramontes, whose offer was pulled, had said:
I trust the coaches, so wherever they want to play me, I'm fine with. I worked out at quarterback and got great feedback from the staff....It feels great to commit to Michigan. For me, education was the most important thing on my list and Michigan has a great academic reputation. Football wise, I really love Coach Harbaugh and how energetic he is.
Victor attended the California summer camp and committed in June.

David Reese, who decommited the week before Devin Bush, a higher ranked LB, announced his commitment, responded to questions when he committed in April.
Question: What separates Michigan from other schools?
Answer: The prestige of the school. The Michigan degree, and the Big house all separate Michigan for other schools around the country.
Question: What was the deal breaker when you finally flipped to Michigan?
Answer: Having a long talk with coach Chris Singletary and Harbaugh and going over the depth chart and seeing the coaches staff energy they cared at practice was the real deal breaker.
Question: What college did you cheer for growing up?
Answer: Michigan.
Question: What Michigan coach recruited you the most?
Answer: Coach Harbaugh
Question: How much times do you talk to Harbaugh?
Answer: Serveral times he treats me as if he’s my area recruiter.
Question: Did the Big House and fan base of Michigan help you choose Michigan?
Answer: Definitely the support from Michigan is second to none and I’m happy to be accepted into the family

I expect Dytarious Johnson, a 3* ILB, to announce a "decommitment" soon. He committed last June after an offer at the Prattville, AL camp. He has not been offered an Official Visit to Michigan. Michigan has since gotten verbals from two 4* ILB, in December and last week.

Lol at the "not offered an official visit" caveat. I believe Swenson had a similar situation. Surely when this is explained to a kid they must know their place in a class is not secure.

How can you not offer an official visit to a kid who is committed?

In the future, Michigan will have to live with their actions. Other schools will use the deception that Harbaugh has championed to negative recruit. I can hear the sales pitch "Do you really want to give a verbal commitment to Michigan? Michigan's word isn't good. They promised scholarships and pulled them later only to offer the scholarship to someone else. If you're looking for a coaching staff with integrity, it isn't Michigan's staff."

i think Harbaugh's aim is that from this year on he won't need the commitments of 2/3 star prospects at SCUM

Do you really believe this? The SEC certainly haven't paid for it, they have gotten paid for it. College football is on a one way funnel to the bottom. I think it is more likely that poor morals, cheating, unethical behavior and greed destroy any semblance of college football being associated with actual college. This is semi-pro football, college football is dead.

Harbaugh won't continue to get satellite camps in the deep south if he pulls offers that come from them. Something he should keep in mind if this becomes the norm for him.

Bernie Machen, Florida's President, said about the rule the SEC passed in 2011 to prevent grayshirting and oversigning :

Imagine the feeling if the student finds out, literally a few months before enrolling, that the institution is backing out of the contract. It is too late in the summer (following NSD) to go back to one's second choice. The student is told he will have to wait until next year. Sorry, but no acceptance, no scholarship. That's it.

In Division I college football this practice is known as 'grayshirting' and, unfortunately, there are universities that sanction this activity. The universities, with full knowledge of what they are doing, extend more athletic scholarships than they have. These schools play roulette with the lives of talented young people. If they run out of scholarships, too bad. The letter-of-intent signed by the university the previous February is voided. Technically, it's legal to do this. Morally, it is reprehensible.

Associated with 'grayshirting' -- and equally disgusting -- is the nefarious practice of prematurely ending student-athletes' scholarships. Some are just not renewed even though the student-athlete is doing what is asked of him.

Some students are mysteriously given a 'medical exemption' which ends their athletic careers -- and makes another scholarship available for the football coach to hand out. There are, to be sure, some legitimate circumstances that result in scholarship non-renewal but regardless of the situation it is the student athlete who is impacted and the university that benefits.

It is, after all, a moral contract.

Every SEC President voted to abolish oversigning based on these considerations for a student's welfare. These principles sound like they are not part of Michigan's recruiting foundation.

Ha, was reading one of the Twitter pages of a recruit that was given the boot, and a Buckeye fan told him "Come to Ohio State, this would never happen to you here." Yeah, Jamel Dean says hi. A Michigan homer also said "This isn't a big deal, he has other offers, this kind of thing happens at every Power 5 program." Nope.

You should. UM is ND's closest competitor nationwide in recruiting. Doesn't matter if it's the Midwest, the Midsouth, California, Jersey or Florida. They go head to head all the time.

...and if you ever lived in Michiana you'd really understand. Bad blood on the border.

I do.

And we recruit against them all the time, and recruiting is a HUGE part of this board, so of course this should be talked about IMHO.

I find lately that the kids we have our sights on don't have UM offers.. Or if they do, they don't matter.

That's because Harbaugh has a national strategy and he doesn't need anyone with Ohio State or ND offers.

He likes to search out young men who like the idea of having him spend the night on his floor....only one other school has dared to use that tactic.

IMO, it's downright comical how close this is heading to the exact narrative everyone prescribed to Harbaugh when he was hired:
1. He is going to do everything 100%, all the time... much like Saban. Check.
2. He's "quirky" and whether those quirks are endearing when things are going well, but become a problem in a hurry when they're not. Check, he's still (generally) in the honeymoon phase.
3. He's got serious personality issues, and his schitck gets very old very fast. Check, already happening. The "Harbaugh Effect" is quickly evolving to mean something else and people are already airing dirty laundry. Within two years, you'll start hearing some stuff from people on the roster.
4. At Stanford, he was a merciless over-recruiter and used "admissions" as an excuse to cut kids he didn't want when he got closer to signing day. Kain Colter is a fantastic example. Check, he is doing the exact same thing at Michigan but people actually give a sh*t now because he can't obfuscate things with "admissions" AND it's a high profile program.
5. Whether or not people give him a pass for all of his issues/baggage will be directly related to how much he wins. Check, Michigan fans all of a sudden supporting the very practices they derided for years.

So the only question is whether he's able to beat Ohio State or if he flames out spectacularly in the next 2-5 years after not being able to get over the hump.

It's not pretty.

Not saying this is okay, but the young man and his family should have had some concerns when they don't hear from scUM for seven months?
