Michigan Decommits
Michigan Decommits
We're up to ten decommits with more to come. I feel sorry for these kids with their dreams crushed and lies told to them. Here's a few of their commitment statements and article quotes.
Rashad Weaver - (offered at M's Miami satellite camp) His primary recruiter was Jay Harbaugh, U-M's tight ends coach and assistant special teams coach.
Coach Jay told me that they are offering me as a big athlete. They like me at both defensive end and tight end and I may even be both way guy. Coach Harbaugh was more of a conversation about us building a relationship between us two and getting me up to visit asap. He also told me how if I commit and happened to get hurt this season, then they would still fully honor my scholarship....When he said that I was amazed and he told my mom. I want to get up there asap, so I can visit and make this decision as soon as possible...My mom has a vacation coming up either the end of this month or beginning of July. That is when I would try, but it all depends on the money situation at the time.”
Weaver committed four days later. He was never granted an Official Visit to Michigan.
(
Michael Dwumbour, a friend of
Rashan Gary the top-ranked recruit in the nation, committed to Michigan yesterday. Gary is a Michigan lean. Both are DTs like Weaver. Harbaugh's Michigan has also scheduled an OV with another high-ranking DT, Boss Tagaloa.)
Two early commits -
Matthew Falcon and
Antwaine Richardson - had season-ending injuries with subsequent scholarship offers pulled or little contact until a higher-ranked recruit took their place. Matthew's mother was told by Harbaugh:
"If Matthew comes to Michigan, he will not be able to play football."
Matthew said:
But they would pay for my college education for academics. I would have to sign a waiver saying I can't play even though top surgeons told me, my family and Coach Harbaugh I will be able to get back on the field and play at a high level."
A four-star RB, Kareem Walker, decommited from Ohio State two weeks earlier and then commited to Michigan after Falcon was told he did not have a scholarship.
Victor Viramontes, whose offer was pulled, had said:
I trust the coaches, so wherever they want to play me, I'm fine with. I worked out at quarterback and got great feedback from the staff....It feels great to commit to Michigan. For me, education was the most important thing on my list and Michigan has a great academic reputation. Football wise, I really love Coach Harbaugh and how energetic he is.
Victor attended the California summer camp and committed in June.
David Reese, who decommited the week before Devin Bush, a higher ranked LB, announced his commitment, responded to questions when he committed in April.

Answer: Michigan.

I expect
Dytarious Johnson, a 3* ILB, to announce a "decommitment" soon. He committed last June after an offer at the Prattville, AL camp. He has not been offered an Official Visit to Michigan. Michigan has since gotten verbals from two 4* ILB, in December and last week.
