IMO, it's downright comical how close this is heading to the exact narrative everyone prescribed to Harbaugh when he was hired:
1. He is going to do everything 100%, all the time... much like Saban. Check.
2. He's "quirky" and whether those quirks are endearing when things are going well, but become a problem in a hurry when they're not. Check, he's still (generally) in the honeymoon phase.
3. He's got serious personality issues, and his schitck gets very old very fast. Check, already happening. The "Harbaugh Effect" is quickly evolving to mean something else and people are already airing dirty laundry. Within two years, you'll start hearing some stuff from people on the roster.
4. At Stanford, he was a merciless over-recruiter and used "admissions" as an excuse to cut kids he didn't want when he got closer to signing day. Kain Colter is a fantastic example. Check, he is doing the exact same thing at Michigan but people actually give a sh*t now because he can't obfuscate things with "admissions" AND it's a high profile program.
5. Whether or not people give him a pass for all of his issues/baggage will be directly related to how much he wins. Check, Michigan fans all of a sudden supporting the very practices they derided for years.

So the only question is whether he's able to beat Ohio State or if he flames out spectacularly in the next 2-5 years after not being able to get over the hump.

....or, or, if he's able to say no to a 5 yr / $75M-ish offer from the NFL.

Good post LAX. Spot on.

Good post LAX. Spot on.

They are currently working on an extension for him at UM right now. Details to come soon. Could they possibly make him their Charlie Weis?

Well-written article as always from a good blog.

Michigan Commit Adds To Satellite Camp Controversy

"When I went and visited (with Davis in April) they told me they wanted to evaluate me more," Johnson recalled. "They wanted me to come to their (satellite) camp (in Prattville), and I guess they liked what they saw (because) they offered me today. So I wanted to commit."
What makes this excellent is that instead of a true "light bulb" feel-good story, we have Michigan all but setting up a "camp" for the sole purpose of reviewing players they were considering offering. It was never about having a true teaching camp.

Dytarious Jackson, 2* LB, is expected to have to "decommit". Dytarious has stayed with his Michigan commitment, though two other LBs have decommitted. Since his commitment, Michigan has added another four high ranked LB commits. Also, Michigan wants to add Jonathan Jones as their sixth LB recruit and is in his top 2. Dytarious has never had an OV to Michigan.

Here's what Dytarious said on why he committed,
When I went and visited, they filled everything on my list. They had everything I wanted in academics, the campus, good sports. They have it all.

Here's his evaluation from "Touch the Banner". Dytarious Johnson, Wolverine

Let's hope he is able to fulfill his dreams at Michigan.

This bothers me. If I'm the recruiting director, I'm blasting social media and meeting with every recruitnik / talking head available while I'm on the campuses of De La Salle, Bishop Gorman and all the SoCal Catholic schools every time my coaches are on the road. I'd have the local diocese set up an office at the school just for ND. (half kidding I think, at least until I ask Fr. Jenkins if it's doable)

You could not compete with me at those programs if I were running the show. Then I'd go set up Jersey in the same manner. Michigan should not be competing with ND on equal footing regardless of who they are hiring from those states. Michigan hires the Paramus coach, hire Wimbush's coach from St Peter's.

ND should be in deep on every Aaron Taylor & Derek Landri that came out of DLS and that includes Tagaloa and Asiasi this year.

Can Michigan steal NorCal standouts Boss Tagaloa and Devin Asiasi? - Football Recruiting - Scout

Confused. Nowhere in the link does it say Lou Holtz is joining their little dog-and-pony livestream (which I'd find hard to believe, but who knows). And yet...
Or are they somehow mocking an older retired coach who beat them like a rented mule for a decade.

5-3-1 is hardly rented mule status.

I overstate a bit, perhaps. But they beat us once in the Holtz years when were any good. 1991. In '86 we climbed into the Top 25 on a close loss to them. And in '95 they were the first loss of several. Those were the three losses, and a tie in '92. Lou generally had Michigan's number.

Valid points made in the article...

This is relevant now because Harbaugh has opened one Turnpike-sized pipeline from New Jersey to Ann Arbor, making him the biggest recruiting obstacle for Chris Ash and his new staff at Rutgers.

...but don't flatter yourself, Rutgers. You have WAY more obstacles than lil ol' Harbaugh, like most any D1 teams with a pulse.

Think this is the first year Big Ten is going to a 9 game conference schedule.

Michigans OOC this year is...wait for it:

Hawaii (3-10 2015)
Colorado (4-9 2015)
UCF (0-12 2015)

Notable Big Ten games:

Wisconsin
Iowa
Big Brother
OSU

McDoom - verbal commit #34, sixth WR commit currently committed, sixth recruit from Floirda (others from southern Florida, no decommits, three from Pembroke Pines). Michigan had a Miami satellite camp for education only.

Interesting that Michigan football has only one current commit from Michigan (Michael Onwenu) in this class. And Onwenu has visited MSU.

At this point counting verbals, there are fifteen WRs that would be on the roster. Expect some to transfer before they get their Michigan degrees.

is it really necessary to call a 17 year old kid a dumbass for what college he chooses to attend? Seriously.

Nah, but it worked here as a play on the name that disparaged his decision-making. I'd actually mean it though if he'd had an offer from Northwestern, Duke, ND, Stanford, etc. and turned those down. Besides, unless Harbaugh has 100% corrected the institutional challenges that he himself faced at Michigan, I don't know that there's a good reason to choose Michigan unless you really like kinesiology or are particularly passionate about general studies.

I'm sure that the new athletic director will reign in Harbaugh a little bit. After all, UConn has an impeccable record of ..... oh nevermind

To be fair to Manuel, he got there because of UConn's problems.

I would have hired Tom Jurich from Louisville. He's single handedly got Louisville into the ACC and kept both the P-no's out of jail so far.

The last thing I'd do is hire a guy who was a freshman when Harbaugh was a senior to be his boss. Bad dynamic. I've NEVER seen a... You used to be my boss, now I'm your boss situation work out.

let's get real here, Harbaugh will have free reign to do with the Michigan program what he pleases. Warde Manuel probably already knows this.

Michigan is going to lose a lot of WR's after the 2016 year. They needed to bring a bunch in.

Chesson, Darboh, and De'Mario Jones all graduate. Brian Cole redshirted and was moved to safety. Freddie Canteen split reps at WR and CB last year, good chance he gets flipped to CB permanently, and this is probably Jaron Dukes last year at Michigan, doubt he gets invited back for a 5th year.

That'd leave Drake Harris, Maurice Ways, and Grant Perry as scholarship WR's. Ways is a better blocker than actual WR, and Drake Harris was just healthy as a RS Frosh this year for the first time in like 2+ years. They need the bodies for 2017 and beyond.

Harbaughs recruiting makes Urbs look tame. I can't believe I am tying this, but Sparty and Dantonio now look like "they good guys" of the three (UM, MSU & OSU).
