IMO, it's downright comical how close this is heading to the exact narrative everyone prescribed to Harbaugh when he was hired:
1. He is going to do everything 100%, all the time... much like Saban. Check.
2. He's "quirky" and whether those quirks are endearing when things are going well, but become a problem in a hurry when they're not. Check, he's still (generally) in the honeymoon phase.
3. He's got serious personality issues, and his schitck gets very old very fast. Check, already happening. The "Harbaugh Effect" is quickly evolving to mean something else and people are already airing dirty laundry. Within two years, you'll start hearing some stuff from people on the roster.
4. At Stanford, he was a merciless over-recruiter and used "admissions" as an excuse to cut kids he didn't want when he got closer to signing day. Kain Colter is a fantastic example. Check, he is doing the exact same thing at Michigan but people actually give a sh*t now because he can't obfuscate things with "admissions" AND it's a high profile program.
5. Whether or not people give him a pass for all of his issues/baggage will be directly related to how much he wins. Check, Michigan fans all of a sudden supporting the very practices they derided for years.
So the only question is whether he's able to beat Ohio State or if he flames out spectacularly in the next 2-5 years after not being able to get over the hump.
....or, or, if he's able to say no to a 5 yr / $75M-ish offer from the NFL.
Good post LAX. Spot on.
