SBN’s Michigan blog, Maize N Brew, published a post detailing the declining sales of student tickets. It’s no small decline either. The post cites that 2013 saw 19,000 student tickets sold and are now looking at something in the neighborhood of 13,000 – 14,000. Yes, that’s at best a 5,000 seat decline.

The number is even worse when you consider that Michigan’s undergraduate population is just shy of 30,000 (according to good ‘ol Wikipedia). Should the reported numbers remain accurate, that would mean well less than half of Michigan’s undergrad population will be showing up to games this season.

Sad Trombone.

MGoBlog runs a kickstarter to fire up a Football preview mag. Last year it hit its $20K goal in a matter of days. This year there is like 5 days left and still have not met it.

A recap of Urbie's comments to recruits at the after camp dinner:

I'd take the veracity of this with a grain of salt, but nevertheless... a brutal takedown. I do not doubt that this a real taste of what negative recruiting is like.

And of course he's not wrong. Fuck Michigan.

Michigan hasn't won a consensus NC since 1948. It's like football career suicide in AA.

Well they've still fucking beaten us pretty much every year. We can't really jump aboard the michigan-mocking train with OSU. This is michigan's worst stretch in a long time, and they've still beaten us something like 6 out of 8 times.

I agree. Losing to Michigan on a consistent basis (mostly by blowing it late in the game) is far and away my biggest gripe with Kelly's tenure at ND.

Dick Rod and Philosopher King also being the shittiest coaches in their history, makes it that much worse.

Yeah that really sucks and sticks in my craw something awful. However, I was born and raised in Columbus, most of my family and friends went to OSU, I graduated from ND, and I'm moving to East Lansing. M can S my gray/scarlet/blue/gold/green/white D.

Why do you think it is? I don't buy supernatural explanations. Why has ND lost a couple of close ones to UofM, with their lackluster over all performance?

So, if we are to believe that we had superior talent at ND and should have split the series or won more over the last few years; what reasons make sense for our losses?

There is the deficit quarterback situation, which is looming greater with the passage of time; not really the coaches fault. In fact if anything, they have overcome that and won more games that we probably should have won.

There is the Denard factor. Every year Michigan has hyped the hell out of their quarterback and Denard with his incredible athleticism was able to come through. Even Gardner with his ability had a career day against the Irish in '13 after his move to number 98, Heisman moment! So not psyching the team cuts both ways. People have criticized Kelly for not exciting his players more. With recent locker room chats revealed, he does a better job that I thought he did. And his idea of making the game work(man) like is better in my opinion (and with most I have discussed this with) than the emotional high and lows, you see with some other coaches.

So that leaves the game we won. What was different? We had a defense capable of fully executing their game plan. Having been at that game in '12, and not the away games in '11 and '13, I may not have a perfect perspective for comment. But in '12 the Irish hammered them in the trenches. And they came close to killing Denard. Denard could cut to the line and accelerate as fast as any player I have seen, but he was also much stronger than his size and build would indicate. In the '12 game, he was exhausted. I saw it, and it was the only time. There was a hit Manti had in the second half, which really affected his performance. I am not sure it even made the highlight real.

On the other hand Mattison put in packages that really affected the effectiveness of ND's offense down the stretch in each of the games.

So to review, past qb problems were not Kelly's fault. The rah-rah was not a factor. Denard is gone, and no one defensed him really well. What may have been was the defense, Borges was great at taking the under and making something out of it. We will see a different kind of game with the new improved M offense against BVG; and I am hoping it will restore the "Luck of the Irish!"

It's a nice attack on Michigan, but let's not pretend that Urban dominated that game last year. He should have lost and his defense is an embarrassment. He can only live off his middle 2000's Florida teams for so long. His teams have gotten absolutely exposed in the few instances that they actually played a top 25 team. fOSU.

That and the fact that a Qb who played with his shoes untied ran all over us... adds insult to injury.

I think every coach has a team that seems to give him fits. If you look back at our recent history, Davie had problems with Michigan State. Weis had problems with USC. Kelly has had problems with Michigan. Ty had problems with everyone.

True. I bet MSU fans think the same thing of Dantonio against us.

Understatement of the day. 76-3 over a two year span....ouch. Weis also had a problem with MSU....2-3 with one of the wins coming from one of the worst late game meltdowns I have ever witnessed. I think it is fair to say that Charlie generally struggled with everyone, just like Ty.

I have no problem with laying our recent struggles against UM at Diaco's feet. If we beat them this year, Kelly will likely end his career 2-3 against the skunkbears (somewhat annoying); but he'll have won the two most important games.

But goddamn do we need this win. This is the first game of the Kelly era where I feel like a loss will be an unforgivable letdown.

Had a mini-heart attack just now. I was like....what does he know that I don't about Kelly. Then I realized we don't play Michigan anymore.
