I would be shocked if they had a bad enough year that they fired Hoke, that they would turn around and promote an assistant. The offense would have to be beyond acceptable for Nussmier to even get a sniff. He would have to have a top 10 offense to even be considered and even then the chips would be stacked against him.

I don't think so. Hoke's failures have been operational and organizational. Nussmier seems to be the complete opposite, but maybe TTT can comment more.

This might deserve its own thread but can anyone tell me whether we have any former players who are successful coaches? I honestly can't think of any. I think that's surprising considering we get "smarter" student athletes than the average school.

Bryant Young was climbing the ladder until he resigned from coaching last year. Not enough of a resume to be a HC though.

What level of coaching are you thinking of? D1 NCAA/NFL?

Michigan had established itself as the Big Ten's fast-starter in recruiting.

That title, at least for now, belongs to Penn State, which has 16 verbal commitments for 2015, tied with Clemson for the most nationally. Of the Lions' pledges, eight rank in the ESPN 300, and Penn State is second behind Alabama in 2015 class rankings.

How are the Wolverines faring on the recruiting trail this year? Check out their class.

Michigan, meanwhile, has seven commitments, including four in the ESPN 300. The Wolverines picked up a big addition this past weekend in linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr.

The quality is there, but Michigan's recruiting pace is a bit slower this year, as four Big Ten schools -- Penn State, Nebraska, Northwestern and Iowa -- have more pledges. And that's just fine with Hoke
"It's not a big class, that's one reason," Hoke told ESPN.com on Tuesday. "We haven't been as quick to offer, been as quick on trying to find the right fit. That's a big part of it. When you have 25 or 28 [scholarships], you also need to offer more guys.

"But at the same time, we're real happy with the guys who have made those commitments." (pauses for a minute and began to weep...the tears of sadness has hit the big fat coach as shaun crawford's phone call comes in stating he has officially de-committed from the University of Meatchicken..Hoke orders his staff to get him a bucket of chicken and some tissues.

Michigan signed 25 players in 2012 and 27 in 2013. Last year's class was smaller, and Hoke expects Michigan to sign 15 or 16 players in February 2015.

The reduced scholarship pool allows Michigan coaches more opportunities to evaluate prospects they aren't completely sure about. Hoke said his assistants are traveling to states that have high school spring football to scout recruits.

"Trying to make sure that fit is right from an academic, social and athletic standpoint, that's a reason why you want to get as much information as you can," Hoke said.

Michigan's 2015 recruiting pace is a bit slower than in past years, but Hoke is speaking out about his support for an early signing period and earlier official visits. He would like to see an Aug. 1 signing date and official visits allowed in late May and early to mid June. Hoke thinks prospects and their families shouldn't have to shoulder the financial burden of getting to campuses in the spring of the players' junior year.

CBSsports.com reported Tuesday that more than half of the Big Ten recruits in the 2014 class come from areas outside the league's current footprint (Maryland and New Jersey not included).

"It would help everybody," Hoke said. "The other conferences aren't just staying in their region, either. They're all spreading out through the country.

"You've got guys on unofficials and families spending a lot of money. What can we do to help them and help their families?"

I was intrigued by the term "Skunkbear." I used IE search function - nice feature - to search this thread for "stink" and I did not find anything that appeared relevant.

Googled "Skunkbear" and found this in the Urban Dictionary and I thought that some IE readers might enjoy it.

skunkbear

A nasty and wholly unattractive member of the land weasel family (Mustelidae), sp. Gulo Gulo (Latin: "Glutton"), called by its common name the wolverine. It is also known colloqiually as "those assholes who think they go to an ivy-league school in the midwest." To skunkbear is known to reside inside coffee shops, trying desperately to look pretentious and educated, ensuring that other mammals in the vicinity see them doing coursework openly on a wireless laptop. Sometimes, solely for effect, the skunkbear will also carry a copy of Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged"; this is to expand on the skinkbear's facade of academic elitism and snobbery, but with no actual equity behind it.

The skunkbear's coat is usually dull, and poorly screenprinted with mock-retro logos or pseudo-political trappings. On occasion, however, the skunkbear will molt and reveal a second coat of maize and blue hue; this occurs twice per year, typically when the skunkbear encounters either Spartan warriors or a Buckeye. This change in the skunkbear's coat is a reaction to the threat of not being an attractive mate to species other than its own (in which the skunkbear, or anyone else, has no real sexual interest). If one encounters a skunkbear, one should not discuss the following topics under any circumstances:

intercollegiate athletics

domestic and/or foreign political policy

the U.S. constitution

multiculturalism/racial sensitivity

alma maters

the skunkbear's desperation to leave the state

Failure to heed this warning will lead to an excruciatingly long diatribe, in which one will not be able to slip in a word edgewise. It is also advisable not to engage the skunkbear in any discussion of music, lest one wants to hear a 45-minute set review and critque of some shitty, local Gogol Bordello-esque gypsy-punk-indie-ska band that the skunkbear saw recently for $5 and the Blind Pig. The best way to handle a skunkbear is to let a Spartan stomp it into weasel custard.

The skunkbear is pictured here:

Hail to the Grammar Police

More and more schools have stepped up their game with the mail they send to prospects. Plain ol’ notes on a school letter head are so 10 years ago. Top programs have hired graphic artists to create some stunning designs and unique recruiting pitches to help standout from the crowd.

But in the case of the University of Michigan, maybe they should also hire a copy editor.

Mike Weber, the nation’s No. 152 prospect and a highly coveted in-state prospect, said he received the above note from Michigan. The design, a replication of ESPN The Magazine, definitely is eye-catching, but so is the typo advertising Weber as Michigan’s “All-Amercian RB.”

Despite the error, the Wolverines remain very much in contention for Weber, the No. 2 player in Michigan. Weber also lists Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Tennessee as his top teams.

Get it right if you're going to get it wrong.

Sorry, I am shamed. :(

Also got one of their members sent to Bolivia. Which in IE terms is taking all your green bar on the left by your avatar and turning it bright bright red.

As an aside: I would've loved to study Kinesiology at a high level (yes, another random interest). Given the physics involved in our movements and the physiological response to exercise, we are at a point where we are likely to see computer science and kinesiology merge to help us train more efficiently. Wearable computing devices and sensors will be a massive industry soon.

Fuck Michigan.

Apparently:

I would classify ND as a very good university, not excellent. Just saying.

Maybe it is just a matter of definition but aside from Ivy League schools, Michigan, Northwestern, dare I say Duke, and maybe Stanford and USC. These schools are "excellent"

I LOLz.

Hahahaha I always think it's hilarious when michigan fans confuse their grad schools with their undergraduate institution. Michigan is nowhere near Northwestern, Duke, and Stanford. ND is better than USC, so I don't know where he's going with that. What an idiot.

Add food stations all around the campus for Brady Hoke. The Hokester must not be more than 60 seconds away from food.

Meatchicken itself is a joke with delusions of grandeur. The University of Chicago is the preeminent university in the Midwest. Meatchicken's football coach who eats meat and fried chicken and everything in sight and who is also a philosopher king - the Hokester - is a BIGGER joke.
