I am in no position to state whether or not our season is down the crapper, because I bet it all on Zaire. Now it's on Kizer. We are a very, very, VERY unlucky fanbase, but we might as well put all our eggs in the Kizer basket, because...hell, he looked better than Zaire did against UVA...that's all I got.

Before the season I was thinking 9-3, maybe 10-2 if all went well. I still think that is possible with Kizer. We'll see. Those that thought we were going to make the playoffs are probably more upset because that is most likely not happening.

I said 9-3 I am sticking with that. Our offense was good for the most part but had to settle for two field goals. But the only reason we won't finish 9-3 is the defense. Played good against a terrible texas team. Not so good tonight. If it continues this was BVG needs to leave. Or kellys tenure will be shortened.

All Expectations Out the Window.

Expectations don't change based on circumstances that arise during the season. They have been made, and they are either fulfilled or unfulfilled. ND can win 10 games this year, or admit they are a bunch of pussies who couldn't meet the expectations. Case closed.

Time for Kelly to work with what he has available.

I'll be happy if they can get to 10 wins.

I'm still reserving judgement of this team until after the Tech game. The offense sputtered in the red zone three times in the first quarter and that was with Zaire.

Kelly has talked up our depth, now is the time to prove it.

My expectations have hit the floor. I consider 8 wins a success at this point. Our best players are dropping like flies and we're now forced to rely on a redshirt freshman QB, with virtually no experience, who may or may not be any good.

I expect something like 6-6 or 7-5. Kelly has done a poor job at building depth at certain positions (QB, RB) and of course, we've been ravished by injuries at those certain positions. It never fails.

While on one hand it seems the season has got to shit...

It's gonna be kinda cool to play the underdog roll and try to shock the world for now.

I don't get this. While losing Zaire sucks, it is not like he has started a ton of games, so from an experience stand point you aren't losing much.

Kizer hardly got any reps at all during Spring practice, and Zaire was able to beat out a guy who was what, 19-6 as a starter?

Zaire may not have had the game experience but he has another year in the offense plus an entire Spring of getting reps with the 1st team. Not to mention the offense is going to have to be re-vamped now since Kiser doesn't give you what Zaire does...

This entire team was built around a run-first spread behind a great OL. We lost our RB and running QB. They're going to have to completely overhaul the offense to be pass-first, or they're going to have to square-peg+round-hole. Neither seems like it's going to work, and 8 wins seems like a reasonable expectation given the schedule.

To be honest, Zaire's numbers were kind of a correction today. He looked mortal.

One thing I will say is that Zaire looks like he wont turn the ball over. He doesnt stare down receivers. He makes good decisions. Kizer seemed to have some Rees/Golson in him in that he seemed to fixate and give away his intent to a degree.

Also, Zaire's running was abnormally instinctive and effective. Kizer might be good, but I dont think he'll be that good in.that way.

Im more concerned with the secondary right now.

Why do we have to go that far? Kizer can run the same offense.

Run the ball. Make good decisions. That's football.

I can't believe what I've read on here over the last 15 minutes in a few threads. I don't post here very often. In fact, I don't even lurk here much. Have some faith in the team you say you love and the team you say you live for.

The fact is, we won. Kizer went 8/12 and had a pretty damn ridiculous game-winning pass, especially for a heck of a baptism by fire. 80 yard, 13 play drive and converting on 4th down to keep the drive going? Where's everyone's fire? Were you not going nuts when Fuller scored, or were you sitting there moping about what hasn't even happened yet? Grow up and take the lumps. Kizer has a great load of talent around him. If Tommy Rees could get us through games in 2012 on numerous occasions, so can DeShone. I might as well post this in a few threads.

Like Lax said, it's all been predicated on a option, run first QB. I get that, but this may be a blessing in disguise. Maybe Kizer can strach the field virtically a little more than MZ. Now take what I say with a grain of salt. I am currently extremely shit faced. Today was a tough day to be a ND fan, but we won. Let them BK and the boys get back to work.

My personal expectation was, and is, 10 wins. Expectations don't change based on circumstance, they have already been made.

Ergo, I don't care if 20 players are suiting up by Week 6, this team will either win 10 games, or the year is a failure in my eyes because they didn't meet expectations.

*i understand my opinion and personal expectations don't mean jack $hit to anybody else.

.

I just re-watched the last drive. He did try to force one or two to Fuller, but he also found Corey across the middle, bought time and hit his safety valve in Prosise, and found the dink to Torii on the 2-point conversion. He also made a nice coverage read and ran the ball to pick up the fourth down conversion.

It's natural for a young guy to look for the best receiver a bit right away, but he did spread it around pretty well on that drive. Sample size is very small. We'll see what happens.

I don't get it - you came into the post game thread and gave a very reasonable reaction to the VA game. ND didn't really play as badly as people were making it out to be. Then this? The O-Line is still great. Prosise is running like a boss and Adams looks pretty darn good too. Kizer has a cannon and should truly open up the vertical passing game. I am still hopeful that each and every Saturday the team I root for will come out on top.

Go Irish!
