Gonna go ahead and post this out there ahead of time.

So shall it be written. So shall it be done.

A Moment in Time.

In the course of one’s life there are plenty of moments to mark the passage of time. Some personal; some professional. Other moments are linked to those things that we seem most passionate about. As a fan of sports, it is easy for me to mark my “moments in time.” When your team wins the big game. When the player you cheer for does something special. When, just for a moment, the world just feels right.

In my lifetime, there has been many “moments in time.” Carlton Fisk hitting an epic home run in the 75 World Series to force the game seven against my Cinci Reds. Hank Aaron hitting his record breaking home run to surpass the mighty Babe Ruth. Secretariat winning the Belmont by 32 lengths en route to the Triple Crown. Wayne Gretzy simply playing hockey. Cal Ripkin homering in his last All Star game. Derek Jeter’s walk off hit to end his career.

Football offers the same. Bo Jackson running. Derrick Thomas tackling. Great battles between great teams through each of the last 4 decades. Montana to Rice. The 85 Bears. Elway finally winning a Super Bowl. Nebraska goes for two. Hershel Walker as a freshman. Vince Young’s performance against USC. And last night’s Notre Dame- FSU game. For other fans… they too have their moments in time.

In an era of college football driven by greed and money, nowhere will there be two schools on different planes than at FSU and Notre Dame. One institution hell bent on winning championships at all costs. The other hell bent to win championships in the classroom first. One who, from the outside, turns away from the issues affecting CFB today. The other who will, at times, interject themselves into the debate needlessly. Two teams… two schools… polar opposites.

The whole issue around FSU and how they have handled the JW saga baffles many on the outside looking in. How could such a gifted player be allowed by a school to get away with some alleged fairly significant issues off the field? How could a school that represents itself as an institute of higher learning place emphasis on winning at all costs on the football field? How can a school and a football coach seemingly turn a blind eye to the issues at hand?

But, all of that was marked in a “moment in time” on Saturday night. One school… hell bent on winning at all costs. One school… hell bent on trying to uphold the spirit of the game and the words student athlete. One school lost. The other school won. Not just a football game. But it won for all those who hope for a brighter future for a sport that we as fans love to watch, cheer for, support. In a “moment in time”, just for a night… it all feels right in the world. And CFB fans everywhere… regardless of their allegiance… owe one school thanks.

Thank You Notre Dame. Well done.

I've been trudging through the week in anticipation of a flashback to Bama. Who would have guessed a Bama fan (and possibly a little alcohol) has sparked a glimmer of hope?

Wait, did somebody post something about hobbits as a response to a talk about iconic moments in sports?

Nevertheless, thank you and very well done, Tommy, very well done.

Nice TTT. We are obviously similar in age as your list would be a copy of mine(except add a few ND moments to mine).

Tommy, that was, without a doubt, probably the best post I've read this season. I can only rep it once, but that was badass!!!! #RollIrish #RollTide #FukkMichigan

A referee blew his whistle.

And in doing so, proved that right and wrong, are all monetary notions.

During the game, I was ok with the call.

After watching review after review, I'm so upset.
