Basically:
1. He was doing some shady shit recruiting Blake Barnett to Oregon. Instead of acting like a reporter he was literally out there neg recruiting ND and pitching Oregon.
2. Some ND people were like “this seems unethical and weird.”
3. He starts actively trolling ND fans on Twitter and 247 boards and acting like a total douche nozzle.
4. We started a mass 247 cancellation movement on here where we simply said “we don’t want to sub to a website that employs people like Justin Hopkins.” This spread to Twitter and elsewhere.
5. 247 made Hopkins delete all his stuff and publicly apologize and 247 brass said they didn’t condone conduct like his and they asked people not to punish the hard working people on the ND beat just because Hopkins was unprofessional.

Shortly after all of that, he was on the outs and started his own website “scoopduck” which I’m pretty sure bombed. Haven’t heard his name in YEARS.
I normally don't condone people losing their livelihoods, but when said individual is a general ass and doing unethical shit in their particular line of work....you're kinda asking for it. He landed on his feet...more or less, so there's that. Hopefully he learned his lesson, although he better keep the Irish out of his mouth if he's trying to start crap again.

Oregon is buying them a class. I really hope we can get the goods on what they tell Dante.

Dante Moore… most important recruit since? Fans haven’t been this invested in a recruitment since?

I’ll be honest and say I haven’t followed recruiting much, just passively since 2011 and 2012 treated me like a battered woman.

Most important since probably Clausen right?

Maybe Jaylon?
QB > LB. And - granted it's been a bit - but I don't remember Jaylon's recruitment being particularly competitive, especially for such a highly-rated recruit. Looking back at his 247 profile he appears to have only visited Ohio State and us (about eight times).

We're putting down a lot of chips on Moore here, and going up against some heavy hitters. Landing him would be a large statement.

Ov'ing Oregon at the end of the month. Sampson mentioned if that happened could be more of a concern because they'll throw out a huge NIL offer. At least we'll found out soon enough
I'm hoping ND has a blank check ready to match whatever he gets, the timing of the FUND announcement may just be a coincidence but hoping ND can get close enough to whatever NIL offer he gets that his love for ND and this staff will ultimately prevail and will be the difference maker.

If all he's looking to do is chase the biggest bag, then good luck to him. We're all learning on the fly here with this crazy NIL business, the staff most of all.

I think an argument could be made that he is more important than Clausen. Mostly because of where the program currently is …a QB and maybe 2-3 other players away from legitimately competing for a Natty and still on an upwards trajectory.

I agree with this. I would add that with a new coach and coaching staff and your all time winningest coach leaving the #5 team in the country because he doesn’t think they can ever win a championship the next 2-3 years are very important for ND football to at least maintain.

We all knew Clausen was coming. There was very little suspense there and he announced in South Bend the day of the spring game as we all recall.

Dante Moore, to me, is like Manti only at the QB position in a more important moment in time in terms of the program, the position and what you need in college football to win a championship going forward.

I hope Moore makes the same choice Manti did and hopefully does it in a quicker timeframe. James making his verbal and almost immediately making a shoutout to Dante Moore is all anyone needs to know about how important he is going to be to this program.

Idk if this would be the correct answer to your question, but I feel like Gunner Kiel was one of the more talked about recruits that I remember.

If it's a question of importance via impact on the field, etc. then ignore this comment. I'm strictly talking about potential as a recruit to change the program with my Kiel comment.

I'm trying very hard not to get wrapped up in recruiting again. Having my mental health be decided by the decisions of 17-18 year old kids unnerved me. BUT....I have to admit I'm digging what this staff is doing. It's fun to superficially follow what's happening. It appears the Beat feels great about Dante, however, two caveats I've heard mentioned are 1) OV to Oregon is a bad thing 2) pushing this past June is a bad thing.

This kid is a program changer. He's the type of QB ND needs to compete with Bama, Georgia, OSUs of the world. I believe it was Sinclair who made a comment regarding the importance of landing Moore when he described UGA's champ roster had a mediocre QB, true, but the rest of the team was stacked with 5-stars. ND can't land that many 5-star players in consecutive classes to build a stud-filled roster. They need that generational QB to catapult them upward into the tier where those teams reside.

I also heard Sampson mention that ND isn't going to have bag men, but they're trying to be competitive in teaching kids the value of the brand. Guys like Joe Schmidt - from walk on to captain, became a star on the "hardknocks" version of college football, which he pretty much used to propell him into doing tons of meetings with Fortune 500 companies, etc. Sampson also mentioned how Brady Quinn is still a celebrity within college football (not just at ND) despite not having a great NFL career. ND did that for these guys and kids need to understand there's monetary value that needs to be calculated here as it competes with the NIL deals of A&M and Oregon, etc.

He COULD be a program changer. He could very well not pan out at all. There's no guarantees with 16 year olds, which is why I'm baffled everyone is so damn invested. I want to win as much as anyone, but there's too many unknowns I think to go all in on one kid. I think you're right to reduce your recruiting involvement. I did the same, it's better for your mental health :ROFLMAO: Shit has only gotten crazier in the last 10 years. I follow them once they've signed on the dotted line, and then whoever wins out at camp or is the starter for that week has my support.

Because ND has to win these battles for elite QB's every couple of years. If Freeman lands DM in Year 1... that's huge. Can't start a trend until you land the first one.

You can only win the lottery if you buy a ticket. There’s a 50/50 shot Dante become elite, there’s a 2% Steve Angeli does.

It’s not really hard to understand why people are hyped.

So in one thread were going hard on why Pyne should be starter and saying his Spring game performance will validate and in another saying we shouldn't be going all in on a 5* QB.

We are also a program where two of the most successful quarterbacks in recent memory are Ian Book and Tommy Rees. Hoping for better is hard for some people.
