He COULD be a program changer. He could very well not pan out at all. There's no guarantees with 16 year olds, which is why I'm baffled everyone is so damn invested. I want to win as much as anyone, but there's too many unknowns I think to go all in on one kid. I think you're right to reduce your recruiting involvement. I did the same, it's better for your mental health :ROFLMAO: Shit has only gotten crazier in the last 10 years. I follow them once they've signed on the dotted line, and then whoever wins out at camp or is the starter for that week has my support.
You're absolutely right that he could bust. But how many stud QB recruits has ND landed over the last 10 years? To beat the best, you have to recruit the hell out of these top QBs and hope that they pan out. ND's track record of hitting on the QB position has been terrible in terms of 5* QBs. It seems that most analysts feel good about ND's position in adding Moore to the list of commits. That in and of itself should be worth the excitement.

It's yet to be seen if this staff has the ability to consistently stack top 5 classes on top each other like Georgia, Bama, OSU does. They're off to a great start. But imagine what a commitment from a 5* QB does for them. WRs of course will take notice, but so do other top recruits because they want to play for championships. Dante doesn't have to throw a ball and getting his commitment would undoubtedly have a trickle down effect for other recruits.

With all that said, I'm not getting my hopes up with big recruits anymore. I take the approach that you spelled out....wait till they sign, then see how it pans out. A top 5* QB getting a ton of positive ND press (because presumably ND leads), grabbed my attention though. At least now I'm old enough to not let it ruin my day/week/year if he chooses a different school in the end.

Whenever I hear ‘Stone’ by Whiskey Myers I think,… whoever wrote this is a ND fan,……
Not bad. When I think of ND though...I think of this:

I hurt myself today (Big bowls)
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away (Alcohol)
But I remember everything
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away (QB transfers)
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down (Brian Kelly)
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair (Charlie Weis)
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else (Lennay Kekua)
I'm still right here
What have I become?
My sweetest friend (Drew Pyne, j/k)
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down (Elko)
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away (Also BK)
I would keep myself
I would find a way

As to our QB recruiting: I believe part (only part but not insignificant) of our "Five-Star" recruiting troubles occurred when Coach K decided that the only reasonable path that he saw to a title was to play "simple" power football. And we DID become OLineU AND TightEndU at the same time. But that's "just" 90% winning football (Coach did that too) and not "Sexy Sling it" football. If Will Fuller could have entered school every two years, well, different. But Will was only one. There's a difference between Will Fuller and really good college receivers like ChaseC and MilesB etc. ... and TEs too. Big Boy power football --- maybe not quite so attractive to two sorts of position players --- guess which two. Hmmm... which two areas are we always fretting about?

What is the problem here? Did Dante say he was committing on a specific date? Or is it that your overly trusting a bunch of click-bait nerds that he is going to pop early? He’s done nothing wrong and isn’t stringing us along. He said he would take visits. He’ll commit when he commits.
Exactly…..all this national attention and excitement is going to pay dividends when/if he commits to ND.

Seriously. I’m not sure who you’d “rather” be in this recruitment than Notre Dame.

LSU? They just landed a 5-star QB and we all know about BK. Miami? They suck. Michigan? Ha. Or are you that afraid of Oregon? I can’t remember the last time we lost a recruit we actually wanted to fucking Oregon.

We lead. Have led for awhile. Still lead. Yes it’s us against the field and maybe the field is looking stronger than it did a few weeks ago. But I still don’t see any particular school out there that is more compelling for Dante Moore than Notre Dame. Do you?

While I agree with you for the most part, I wouldn't poo-poo Oregon so quickly, especially now that the NIL shackles are off.

But to be clear. I'll echo someone else's sentiments when I say I'm 99.999 percent sure Dante was made aware of the Brady/Mendoza and NBC NIL deals way before we were... and he was helped to understand what that could do for him.

We'll see. But im pretty convinced he's a silent and wanting to make double damn sure he's gonna stay committed once he does.

Everyone, ND & national, still feel ND leads.
And then he flips in the 11th hour to "shock the world."
Just went back through the Deontay Greenberry thread and saw a lot of this when he visited Houston right before signing day lol. Still crazy to me.
LOL I don't think we have much to worry about... if we lose him to Houston at the 11th hour with his cousin on campus I will seriously not even get angry. I'll probably just go into a fit of psychotic laughter...

He's acting like a mature highly coveted recruit, trying to get as much info as possible so he can make an informed decision.

I believe ND knows we lead or possibly have it locked up. This is why we landed James and have momentum with Greathouse and Gallagher. These kids talk to each other, and they know Moore will be wearing that GOLD helmet!

Donte Thornton was a weird one. Decommits from PSU right before senior year. A kid from the northeast says his dream school is . . .Oregon. Then Del was being Del and we know the rest.
Could’ve been Styles, Colzie, Thornton, Thomas. Pretty great haul would take a lot of pressure off of the numbers in the following class

OK fine. I didn't follow recruiting all that closely the last couple cycles. But still. My bigger point stands. I don't know who you'd rather be in this recruitment than Notre Dame.
Maybe Oregon's got the bag but they're still a long way from home in the middle of nowhere and play most of their games after everyone's gone to bed. I'm not scared.

Listening to The Shamrock Podcast (Sampson and Fortuna) episode that dropped today...

(Fortuna while talking about recruiting)
"Once Dante publicly commits, publicly..."

The amount of writers emphasizing the heck out of the phrase "publicly" committed is getting pretty crazy...I'm the last one to be jumping to conspiracies. And I think a silent commit means nothing...but this is bizarre.

I don't think they would be this careless if there wasn't some serious NIL money that was thrown around to him. Sampson's been around the block, he knows silent commits are bs. And I know ND and Dante can't engage in NIL discussions, but maybe we're coloring outside the lines for a change.
