You're absolutely right that he could bust. But how many stud QB recruits has ND landed over the last 10 years? To beat the best, you have to recruit the hell out of these top QBs and hope that they pan out. ND's track record of hitting on the QB position has been terrible in terms of 5* QBs. It seems that most analysts feel good about ND's position in adding Moore to the list of commits. That in and of itself should be worth the excitement. He COULD be a program changer. He could very well not pan out at all. There's no guarantees with 16 year olds, which is why I'm baffled everyone is so damn invested. I want to win as much as anyone, but there's too many unknowns I think to go all in on one kid. I think you're right to reduce your recruiting involvement. I did the same, it's better for your mental healthShit has only gotten crazier in the last 10 years. I follow them once they've signed on the dotted line, and then whoever wins out at camp or is the starter for that week has my support.
It's yet to be seen if this staff has the ability to consistently stack top 5 classes on top each other like Georgia, Bama, OSU does. They're off to a great start. But imagine what a commitment from a 5* QB does for them. WRs of course will take notice, but so do other top recruits because they want to play for championships. Dante doesn't have to throw a ball and getting his commitment would undoubtedly have a trickle down effect for other recruits.
With all that said, I'm not getting my hopes up with big recruits anymore. I take the approach that you spelled out....wait till they sign, then see how it pans out. A top 5* QB getting a ton of positive ND press (because presumably ND leads), grabbed my attention though. At least now I'm old enough to not let it ruin my day/week/year if he chooses a different school in the end.
