I'm trying very hard not to get wrapped up in recruiting again. Having my mental health be decided by the decisions of 17-18 year old kids unnerved me. BUT....I have to admit I'm digging what this staff is doing. It's fun to superficially follow what's happening. It appears the Beat feels great about Dante, however, two caveats I've heard mentioned are 1) OV to Oregon is a bad thing 2) pushing this past June is a bad thing.
This kid is a program changer. He's the type of QB ND needs to compete with Bama, Georgia, OSUs of the world. I believe it was Sinclair who made a comment regarding the importance of landing Moore when he described UGA's champ roster had a mediocre QB, true, but the rest of the team was stacked with 5-stars. ND can't land that many 5-star players in consecutive classes to build a stud-filled roster. They need that generational QB to catapult them upward into the tier where those teams reside.
I also heard Sampson mention that ND isn't going to have bag men, but they're trying to be competitive in teaching kids the value of the brand. Guys like Joe Schmidt - from walk on to captain, became a star on the "hardknocks" version of college football, which he pretty much used to propell him into doing tons of meetings with Fortune 500 companies, etc. Sampson also mentioned how Brady Quinn is still a celebrity within college football (not just at ND) despite not having a great NFL career. ND did that for these guys and kids need to understand there's monetary value that needs to be calculated here as it competes with the NIL deals of A&M and Oregon, etc.
