Another CB to ND today, this one from a Texas analyst. No idea if he's in the know or not.
Isn't the "master plan" for recruiting to get your QB commit first so he can gather a group of skill guys who want to play with him?

there is usually a domino effect once the higher rated qb's commit to a school as most schools only look to land 1....so they usually commit sooner to secure the spot and yes it helps with recruiting the skilled positions

Same prevailing thoughts that are already out there. We have a significant lead. Small chance that Stanford alters that this weekend. If they do, ND will quickly move on, and Tyler is aware of that. If not, he's going to commit fairly soon.

"No" info, but I'll predict he gets our 2021 class started by next week at this time, or very shortly after.

To me, it feels like if Stanford doesn't take the lead this weekend, he's committing right after. Tyler knows about JJ, he knows he has to act soon.

With all the moves the Buckeyes have put on JJ, I'm wondering who the 3rd option is...

.9918 5* RS SR Davis Mills
.9115 4* RS JR Jack West
.9764 4* RS FR Tanner McKee

.9593 4* RS JR Phil Jurkovec
.8796 3* RS SO Brendon Clark
.9378 4* RS FR Drew Pyne

I think Tyler will probably look at the Stanford and ND depth chart and see he'll probably be sitting in his first season and then it'll be an open competition for QB1 in his sophomore year, but who does he think he can beat out. To me, ND seems more enticing to play in year 2 unless you view Brendon Clark and Drew Pyne as better than Jack West and Tanner McKee which I don't. I think McKee is pretty special, but who knows how his game progresses after a two year mission and probably a redshirt year on top of that.

They looked at quite a few guys. But a name that sticks out is Jake Rubley.

I saw something on 11W recently that kind of made it seem like JJ was 3rd on OSU's QB board for '21, but maybe I missed something.

Or, maybe OSU feels like ND does, in that they can put the press on once they have an idea about what their top target is doing.

If this is the case, if I were JJ, I'd say "**** you" to both schools and go to a school that wants me instead of being a fallback girl.

That's how Graham Mertz ended up at Wisconsin.

If it were a year from now, absolutely.

But ND and OSU are both ahead of the game with their QB depth charts and commits.

I doubt there's been enough national movement in the '21 class to bring about that type of decision yet.

I mean, kind of.

Mertz would have been a top pick for us but we had a QB commit very early in the process. When he backed out of his commitment, Graham was our #1. He didn't want to break his commitment to Wisconsin though.

Seems like congratulations might be in order soon for Buchner to you guys. It’d be big for ND to get their #2 QB (Preston Stone unrealistic #1), I will be finding other teams to discuss for awhile. It’s ok, guys have different preferences than my guys but I don’t like the way JJ was led on. After how a already declared Love was treated I’m over the Brian Kelly regime. As a life long ND fanatic it’s a tough spot, I’ll come back around when we hire a man of character. Best of luck to all and God bless!

Yea, I’m with Lax, can you elaborate? If you mean Julian Love declared and was treated poorly, what happened? I didn’t see anything related to that. If you mean JJ McCarthy declared his love for ND then idk what ND is doing wrong? I’m pretty sure I’ve read on many many sites and many many analysts who have said that ND has mentioned to every QB recruit that Tyler Buchner is their #1 target and they want to still take in some visitors but they wanted to let Buchner make a decision before moving onto different QB offers. That’s been obvious for months at this point. That’s sort of how recruiting works for transparent schools is they tell recruits that they have a guy or two or 10 ahead of them and that they are waiting on decisions before making a move on them. For some spots it is first come, first serve, but the recruits are told that spots are filling up fast and they need to jump on them. Tyler Buchner probably has something like a deadline on when to make a decision or else the staff will offer other QB’s. It’s not a lack of character, but rather straightforward communication to the recruits. It’s a two-sided business and ND can’t be left with an empty spot at QB because they spent 10 months waiting on a single dude. I’m sure JJ McCarthy knows he’s behind Buchner and maybe Rubley and maybe more or he’s the first alternative to Buchner.

Once Love declared and forfeited the spring semester what responsibilities do the coaches have to the Love family? It’s hard to imagine a scenario where they were treated unfairly. After the cotton bowl, they had to finish recruiting for 2019, setup the 2020 junior day schedule, setup the spring football schedule, exit interviews with players, and take vacation somewhere in between. The coaches would have really had to go out of there way to treat them unfairly.

I've not heard of any mistreatment, but you better discuss the Ivy League schools or you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Didn't you hear? After Love declared Kelly gave him a purple-nurple while Lyght grabbed his hands, brought them to his face, and started yelling "STOP HITTING YOURSELF!"

Sounds good. We'll talk to you when you decide to come back.

So back to Buchner, I'd be ecstatic if we picked him up (but I'm very high on JJ as well).

Loy is visiting him right now and if I'm just reading tea leaves he's probably getting a commitment story. But either way he's fired up about what could be.

On the II podcast, Pete hinted that the commitment should come anytime now.
