That’s a lot of money for a guy that basically pissed down his leg against any decent defense he faced
One "bad" game but he has a cannon for an arm and is electric when taking off....some say Kyler 2.0 but he's like a faster/twitchier Russell Wilson.

How is ASU getting two of the top five WRs but couldn't afford Leavitt?

Honest question: this seems so disadvantageous to schools that I wonder if the next iteration here is the ability to make trades, including during the season? Perhaps the ability to purchase contracts?

If we want to be the NFL Lite then there must be a draft.

Wondering if they could have afforded him now with some recent donations. Buzz is Leavitt left the team in a very poor way. Could have been bad for the locker room
Some Arizona journalist the other day suggested that they basically dropped Leavitt (maybe his injury was related to unauthorized basketball playing?). The QB they got from Kentucky is probably cheaper but also made the All-SEC Freshman team. And use the savings to pay WRs.

I think the second wave of entries has been generally more interesting than the first, seems a lot guys waited to see what the market would be like.
You mean some people saw guys like Kenny Minchey getting $3 million and decided to test the market?
We'd better hope our guys are locked in. Portal can't close soon enough.

In 2024 and 2025 Day basically tried to sit on the ball as much as possible to rest up for the playoffs. Seeing a new consequence of that.

Eh, alternative take is that a lack of film has put Day in a position where he knows more than the market about the quality of every player transferring out.

Rumor on Leavitt was that they wanted him out. Something about he hurt himself playing basketball before the season and things went downhill from there.

Not sure who "we" is, but this has been the only NFL farm system for decades. There are no international leagues to pull from. Never have been. The compensation of the players in the modern day being above board is the only thing new.

Well, also the ability of players to jump from team to team every year. Much moreso than the money, that is what makes this all feel so chaotic. And it's not the way pro sports works at all.

Trades are an interesting idea but AFAIK, in America anyway, people can't be compelled to attend a college they don't want to attend. So unless this really becomes a contractual employee situation, it's hard to see how that would work.

I absolutely agree with you on this point and think it is going to be an issue going forward. Potential rude awakening for a lot of players. Especially the types of guys who are going to be drafted in Rounds 3-7.

Point being, the people who are suggesting that this is suddenly NOW the NFL Junior League may have been living under a rock for a while. College football is all there is and all there has been for a very very long time. This is where NFL scouts and front offices find their players. There aren't free agents from Japan or teenagers in the Caribbean and South America that sign contracts with the Steelers and 49ers. You have college players to choose from. The end.

And that's the point: college football got tied entangled deeply with television, then indirectly tied up with the NFL it was inevitable it would morph into being a bona fide minor league system, albeit without direct affiliation. The player jumping from team-to-team....-to-team-to-team-to-team....is what's so different. The mask is off on this operation (for those who were willfully ignorant) and as such, might as well go along with it full steam.

We're about three years from having the Indiana Irish, Tuscaloosa Tide, Ann Arbor Wolverines, Seattle Huskies, etc. I don't know how much longer these programs can pretend to be tied into colleges. But I don't know who will give one rip in the event that things go this way: I can tell you that I have no interest in watching a semi-professiona/minor league team in northern Indiana play football. Yet I'm willing to go along with the charade while it persists....hmmm.

Have any of you pulled up the portal page on 247? Holy hell some teams have added 15 players already.

Surely ND can get a couple to sign? Freeman has been so on point that I'm kind of stunned at how much movement has occurred in the first 4 days. Wild west out here, hope we draw our guns.

Just playing Devil's advocate, but what if a lot of these later entrants have already had discussions (tampering by desperate teams) and know where they're heading to next?
I have been wondering if ND knows of some guys who are not in yet but will enter and then they wind up landing on the roster. There are surely back channels between these programs and players happening. You have to assume some level of tampering is happening.

Still time to finish strong after starting slow.

'bama losing their DL left and right

Somebody gonna get a good one here. Meanwhile, my agent has been in discussions with Bama and filling their DL needs. Told them I would take $1.5 mil, not be allowed to be hit in practice, and that I wanted one of Nick’s new Mercedes. They supposed to let me know something in a day or two. I’ll update IE on my progress.
