Some Arizona journalist the other day suggested that they basically dropped Leavitt (maybe his injury was related to unauthorized basketball playing?). The QB they got from Kentucky is probably cheaper but also made the All-SEC Freshman team. And use the savings to pay WRs.

Not sure who "we" is, but this has been the only NFL farm system for decades. There are no international leagues to pull from. Never have been. The compensation of the players in the modern day being above board is the only thing new.

Well, also the ability of players to jump from team to team every year. Much moreso than the money, that is what makes this all feel so chaotic. And it's not the way pro sports works at all.

Trades are an interesting idea but AFAIK, in America anyway, people can't be compelled to attend a college they don't want to attend. So unless this really becomes a contractual employee situation, it's hard to see how that would work.

And that's the point: college football got tied entangled deeply with television, then indirectly tied up with the NFL it was inevitable it would morph into being a bona fide minor league system, albeit without direct affiliation. The player jumping from team-to-team....-to-team-to-team-to-team....is what's so different. The mask is off on this operation (for those who were willfully ignorant) and as such, might as well go along with it full steam.

We're about three years from having the Indiana Irish, Tuscaloosa Tide, Ann Arbor Wolverines, Seattle Huskies, etc. I don't know how much longer these programs can pretend to be tied into colleges. But I don't know who will give one rip in the event that things go this way: I can tell you that I have no interest in watching a semi-professiona/minor league team in northern Indiana play football. Yet I'm willing to go along with the charade while it persists....hmmm.

Surely ND can get a couple to sign? Freeman has been so on point that I'm kind of stunned at how much movement has occurred in the first 4 days. Wild west out here, hope we draw our guns.

I have been wondering if ND knows of some guys who are not in yet but will enter and then they wind up landing on the roster. There are surely back channels between these programs and players happening. You have to assume some level of tampering is happening.

Somebody gonna get a good one here. Meanwhile, my agent has been in discussions with Bama and filling their DL needs. Told them I would take $1.5 mil, not be allowed to be hit in practice, and that I wanted one of Nick’s new Mercedes. They supposed to let me know something in a day or two.
