Offense: Termble with a decision on Thursday

Defense: I’d leave Boykin on the board as we should have clarity on the other DB targets soon (1 week or so) and the staff is going to continue to recruit him, in case we don’t get Gordon or Griffith.
I’d also leave Irvin, as we are still recruiting him hard and in his top 2. Solo is still on the board as we are in his top 2 and dad seems to love ND recently.

For Griffith he said that he’s been communicating with FSU and Wiscy but per II, there has been very little communication with those schools and they are skeptical he’s even giving them a real look. This week we should know more soon.

Any idea on total scholarship number? Do we have room for 6 more?

I don’t know, outside of reading it’s unanimous that the staff is prepared to take a full 25.

I think it's possible. Guys like Griffith with an NFL mindset rarely transfer if they're getting the PT they want. The question is always about buy in/production from guys if they "don't really want to be here"... frankly, I've never got the vibe with Griffith that some have. We were coming off 4-8 with a coach barely escaping the axe when he wasn't interested.

Too bad staff rushed to take Wilkins & Moala. I think Griffith, Allen, Irvin, Gordon, Boykin, and Bracy are all better and we are either turning away or taking the foot off the gas with one or more of these guys which is a problem. If those seven were uncommitted what would your board look like?

Got to think we'll see some transfers. Especially on the defense, some of those rising sophomores and juniors who've never seen the field, or who used to but got passed up. Possible one or more of those senior D Linemen moves along?

Avery Davis is an interesting transfer possibility. I'd certainly rather he not, but if BW improves and then Phil's as good as advertised he'll never play. Also CJ Sanders is done with eligibility after this year? Tough to transfer as a true senior, but he's clearly not much a part of our offense at this point.

Then of course the inevitable academic/discipline/"it's too cold in South Bend" attrition. It'll be fine.

Yep. I also agree that there will be some defensive transfers. We worry about this every years and then it happens - we only have 83 guys on scholly.

I agree on losing people especially on D. BVG brought them in and discovered no playing time under Elko, or the last minute guys Elko brought in last year realizing that they may not really get to see the field as they hoped when ND showed up on their doorstep hat in hand a year ago and didn't really get what the ENTIRE ND experience entailed.

I generally hate articles like this, because they almost always are premature and paint an inaccurate picture of what the roster actually looks like. Notre Dame has NEVER come close to entering fall camp with an over-stacked roster. That's a fact, and the other fact is that they're going to try to take at least 25 in this class which means there are a whopping 7 (!!!) unclaimed spots right now. That is nowhere close to a "numbers crunch."

ND would like 2 WRs, at least 2 more DBs, up to 2 more OL, Tremble, and "best available" defensive players... they're probably not going to get close to that. Best guess they're probably going to get 1 more WR (I hope), 2 more DBs, 1 more OL, and maybe one other defensive player which would bring ND to 23.

It's extremely unlikely that ND will be at 85 scholarships unless everyone waffling on the fence of going pro decides to come back.

Being at 83 wouldn't be an issue with me because then we can go ahead and go after 2 grad transfers if they fit with us? Maybe a Corner guy and someone else, not sure who will be out there tho

Two preliminary remarks in case I'm screwing something up here:
a). I don't believe that the following OLine recruiting information has been posted (it's about national recruiting but reflects on ND);
b). It depends upon whether ESPN's information is up to date.

With that: We worry greatly here about our 2018 OLine recruiting but maybe we need to cut Harry some slack.

1). Only 1 team currently has four 4* commitments (LSU).
2). Only three teams have three 4* commitments (OK,TX, A&M --- this reflects the special OLine dominance of the Texas area and who is established there).
3). Nine teams have two 4* commitments.
4). Ten more are like us with one 4* commitment.
5). More than 30 teams in the power five conferences have no 4* commitments.

Further:
6). Several very prominent teams have no 4* commitments. These include Clemson, Auburn, Wisconsin, Iowa, Stanford, UCLA, Mississippi State.
7). At least seven SEC teams have no 4* commitments. In the B1G only three have any at all.
8). Pro coaches acknowledge that the best trained OLinemen typically come from Notre Dame, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Stanford. ND is the only one of the three to have a single 4* commitment.

What are the other three great OLine systems recruiting so far this year?
9). Stanford has 1 3* OT
10). Wisconsin has 1 3* OT
11). Iowa has a 3* OT and a 3* OG

Conclusion: the absolute best in the country are in a real grinder year, and are seeing targeting higher potential 3*s as OK this time.
