While overall talent as defined by R&R's is very good, there is still a definite talent problem at ND. No team in the recruiting service era has ever won a NC without consensus 5 star players (plural). If winning 10 games is the ultimate goal then ND is ok. If winning a NC is the goal, then they are not.

Yep. If watched the game Monday night it was pretty clear we don't have national championship level talent, particularly on defense.
But, one step at a time. We do have 10-win, playoff-contender, New Years Six Bowl-level talent. And if you put together a couple seasons like that, the five stars become a lot easier to land.

Resetting Notre Dame's recruiting board before Signing Day

only taking 2 lb's this cycle UNLESS Rahyme Johnson or Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah reach out..NOT EXPECTED THOUGH(they are completely different in terms of skill sets we don't have at lb position)

Really????

After only taking one true LB last year??? I'm not sure this makes much sense???

Even if you say that the rover position isnt a LB, 3 ILB over 2 years isnt very good.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is the same skill set as Jordan Genmark-Heath and they operated from FS in HS.. I'm surprised he had no return interest in ND, Sparty just offered and he's visiting. He's got the right kinda offers too (Ivy's). I wonder why they just don't offer him? Going public with the offer and having 50 industry tweets go out instantaneously is something he hasn't experienced with MSU, UVa, NCSt, Rut, Vandy, Wake as your big offers. Let the media do their thing and let his ego eat.

Rahyme Johnson. Yeah, he's unique. He's played every position but DT. UCLA has put together a nice DL class.

But in Elko & Lea's system they took 3, not 1.

Maybe more depending on Jamir Jones' development, right?

True.

I tend automatically lump lil Jones in with lil Okwara at the future DE spots when I shouldn't. They both came in as malnourished SEC LB's.

I do however follow the sentiment that both will be DL's when they eventually see the field.

Even if you say that the rover position isnt a LB, 3 ILB over 2 years isnt very good.

You have to factor into the equation that we RS Barajas and Bilal, and then Jon Jones last year. So we have; Coney, Barajas, Bilal, Jon Jones, Jamir Jones, White, and Adams. That's 7 LB's for 2 spots, all with 2+ years of eligibility. And of that group, only Coney, has 2 years, the rest have 3+. So, that would be a 3 deep at the Mike and Buck positions, of players with 3+ years of eligibility left.

Right now, the goal is to add WR's, DB's, and DL. When looking at numbers, that seems like the right approach. Plus, we currently have 1 true ILB for next cycle already committed. Its just the new norm, with how Elko runs his scheme.

Staff is really pushing hard and it sounds like he is at least receptive. Essentially the door hasn't been closed yet, and until it does, we'll keep working.

Good. It really seems like the staff has always been willing to let guys walk away too easily.

So Michigan is kicking the tires with Earnest Brown and he seems to be listening. Come on staff!

It's my understanding that the staff went after Brown fairly aggressively, with no reciprocated interest from him. That is just a reality of recruiting. We can't always fault the staff, there's a lot of reasons that these prospects weigh, while making their decision. Sometimes, winning and the staff don't have anything to do with it. In fact, I read that part of Brown's interest in NW was going to school in the greater Chicago area. ND can't change that, no matter how many times Kelly calls him.

Didn't know that, who wouldn't want to live in Chicago. Thanks for the info

Hi,

Silly question here but...

Understanding Elko has looked over our current recruits and roster, would he by chance be taking the players late in this cycle he can get that match what he is looking for, not filling up, so that next year he can get after an extra prospect or five that he really wants that we knew we couldn't get in on late with this cycle?

Maybe it has been discussed but who the fuck am I to read everything all day long!?

I'd be surprised if that wasn't part of the master plan.

Just take the South Shore Line.

I've not taken the South Shore, which I know is cheap, we take the Amtrak out of Waterloo, and typically after the stop in South Bend, it's usually right at 90 minutes. I assumed the South Shore is about the same travel time.

Or a 20 min purple line from Evanston, big difference. You could say the same about Champaign too, it's not the same as being here in the actual city. I went to school 2
Hours from home in middle of Illinois, it's not even close to feeling in the Chicago area.
