Or a 20 min purple line from Evanston, big difference. You could say the same about Champaign too, it's not the same as being here in the actual city. I went to school 2
Hours from home in middle of Illinois, it's not even close to feeling in the Chicago area.

Oh I know; I grew up in Central Illinois. Love the place and Champaign's not a bad town, but it's nothing like Chicago. The U of I is a pretty good school too, but it's not remotely close to the same level as ND or NW, unless you want Ag.

Like most B1G schools, you can get a world class education if you are interested in a field they excel in. Accounting and Engineering can't be far off of what ND and NW offer.

Yup, good school for that too. But not many people want to tie themselves to the U of I since the state is so friggin' awful. They started offering their MBA via MOOC sites...

There's a part of me that could leave AZ tomorrow and go back to Hinsdale, Naperville or any of 20 other suburbs and another part of me that could live in 90% of the rest of the state. But the biggest part of me still holds veto over the little parts. So AZ it is.

The suburbs are dreary. Might as well be in AZ and soak up the sun

U of I engineering is a top 10 engineering school. Our state might have no budget, and the politicians may be a little shady, but i wouldn't call it awful. Chicago is a world class city.

Yes but Chicago's prestige is only going to hold on so long if the damn politicians won't get off their ass and fix the budget problems. It's been like this since I was born, I can't imagine it'll change soon. Illinois is my home state, but it's fucked. Sorry, I'll stop hijacking the thread.

So it's been like this for your entire life but if they don't fix it soon it's screwed?

Seems like they have been getting along just fine. The rumors of Chicago's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Loy CBed Duke commit RB Deon Jackson to Notre Dame

...I know these guys do things based on some factors like opportunity (changes in commitments that cascade), and buzz(stuff people around a kid might say), etc.

Some days though, I wonder if there are darts and blindfolds involved here...

Can someone knowledgeable prepare a summary of who the Irish are still chasing and the chances of closing?

Definitely need to update the OP. Still shows Pouncey and Hicks committed.

Too much to try posting from phone but just look at 2017 recruiting profiles and see who is at the top

Good point-I read profiles but it's a cluster to determine who is in play and who isn't.

Current recruiting push:

RB
Deon Jackson - Sounds like there's a good shot. Wouldn't have gone public if there wasn't

WR
Oliver Martin - Better than 50%, I hear.
Gavin Holmes - Visiting. Who knows. Still no CB's to ND
Michael Smith - Visiting. Probably lead.
Jafar Armstrong - Who knows but there's a good connection I found out last night. No CB's
Mac Hippenhammer - Could be back on if they strike out with Martin/Smith
Jordan Pouncey - ??? Supposedly it's still a thing.

Safety
Evan Fields - Visting. 50-50? No CB's yet.
Connor Wedington - No visit = no chance. ND's just a hat.
Jordan Genmark-Heath. We'll see. No visit yet. Needs to meet new Cal coaches.

CB
Noah Daniels - No idea.
Tre Norwood - Probably will sign. Deco'd from Ville. All CB's to ND.
Terrell Bailey - No idea.
Jason Pinnock - Still scheduled to visit. CB's now to Pitt

DE
Jalen Harris - Visiting. Sounds like theirs a good chance. AZ commit and he's a legacy.
Justin Paschal - Who knows. But supposedly it's on again.
Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa - Sounds like it's a SC vs Oregon battle
Dayo Odeyingbo - No idea.
Kofi Wardlow - No idea

DT
Kenderick Green - No idea
Deontre Thomas - No idea

CB/WR/?
Chris Miller - ??? Whatever happened to him?

Most likely, I missed some.

Paschal apparently is sold on Kentucky, and is visiting Penn St. only because he promised he would. I think ND will continue to try, but not sure it ends up working.

With Jackson, he's comfortable with Duke and their staff along with the trajectory of the program. Him and his parents were at ND for junior day and feel like they've seen everything they need, so they may not officially visit again. In my opinion, if they don't feel it's necessary, I don't think he flips.

FWIW, I like the player, my assumption is that he's not as good as what Elko feels he can get. Trust in that, for sure. But he's been on my list of guys I'd go after, provided we don't hit some top targets.

Random thought, not sure why we are not putting the full court press on Troy Simon. I really like that kid

Baffled at this also. The only thing I can think of is Simon is not athletic enough. Film says one thing, but his Sparq scores were terrible. Of course he scores a lowly 73 and then goes out and wins the Atlanta Regional MVP.

Gotta trust him, he knew he was good enough for Wake but he's not going after him for ND. Wonder if he signed a No Compete? Who does that in football?

Not Fleck. lol

No joke, when I watch Simons film, I think he's the best CB, we'd have signed. He's a better CB than Adebo. Does he have the upside, not even close. But he is a damn good CB. Quick twitch muscles and body movement. Really like the kid.
