I definitely feel ya, but this thing is going to put out upwards of 450 ft lbs of torque.

And that gets ME torqued.

Turbo assisted may get you 450lbs of torque when your in the peak point of the band. For $60,000 plus I want 450 when the foot hits the throttle.... Sorry guys....

It's also nice to hear the v8 growl when you get on it.
There's not a sweeter sound in the world.

No need to be sorry, I think most of us would be pretty happy with this...

Very nice truck, but for the same price, maybe even a little less, I take this every time.

3.5.... Weak sauce..... Give me a super charged 5.7 or bigger any day... Who really gives a shit about mpg when buying a $70,000 performance truck....

In the great words of vin diesel..... "There's no replacement for displacement"

5.7L? Yawn. A 3.5 Ecoboost out of a 2016 Taurus is a better engine than any 5.7L Chevy ever built. Had you sad a 6.2 LSA or LT-1 you would have received some credit but the 3.5 Eco is truly and all time engine. You don't kick the world's ass at LeMans if it isn't. The new Raptor will make 500/500 with ease. All it'll need is the boost turned up and some new software.

Here's what the weak sauce can do below. Unfortunately you won't see the small block Corvette's in the video because this Ford GT doesn't have a rear view mirror.

Better than any 5.7 ever built? Not so fast, my friend.
Lets put twin turbos on an LS1 and then see how the GT or any ecoboost engine does.
The ecoboost is a very good engine. The LS series of Chevy engines will go down in history.
The reason you wouldn't see a a regular vette keeping up with the GT is because you aren't comparing apples to apples. The NATURALLY ASPIRATED 550hp Z06 would like a word with you.
We'll have to revisit this thread when one of the 500 new GT's hit the road later this year and vastly underperform for the price tag. When the ZO6 beats it at the Nurburgring and in the 1/4 mile, just remember, you could still buy FOUR MORE Zo6's for the same price as ONE GT. A $400,000 price tag on the GT is a facking joke!
They are quite sexy, though. No denying that.

Stop right there. Chevy didn't do it. You are talking about a unicorn engine.

The ecoboost is a very good engine. The LS series of chevy engines will go down in history.

Agreed. Love LS2/LS3's. Really love LQ4 for turbo applications. Plus I can pick them up for under $1000 in a wrecked 2500 van/truck.

The reason you wouldn't see a a regular vette keeping up with the GT is because you aren't comparing apples to apples.

I never said anything of the sort. The Vettes that can't keep up with the Ford GT that took 3 of the top 4 spots at LeMans are the C7R's.

The NATURALLY ASPIRATED 550hp Z06 would like a word with you.

The Z06's LT4 puts out 650hp, not 550hp problem is the Z06 is 600lbs more than the GT. Two completely different levels of car. The GT's 3.5/V6 puts out more HP than the Z06's supercharged 6.2/V8. Two completely different levels of technology.

Under performs for the price tag... not sure how you'll decide that. There is ZERO, I repeat, ZERO chance the Z06 will lap the Nordschleife faster than the GT. Can it beat it in the 1/4? Depends on gearing. But then again, I can build a fox body for $25k that would put 2 seconds on a Z06 in the 1/4. Quarter's not what the GT was built to do. What it was built to do for $400k is beat $300k Ferrari's at LeMans, which it did. So if you can afford it, you are buying history and a car with a track record of resale too. Two years from now, I'll be able to buy a Z06 for low $40's. Two years from now, the Ford GT will be $600k+. The '05-'06 GT's were $140k. Starting price for a driver, not a trailer queen, goes for $250k and they made almost 5000 of them.

Very excited about it. Massive overhaul from the prior Raptor. Will likely wait till 2018 to ensure any bugs are worked out. Great gains in MPG. Have been weighing it against a few other choices in different classes, but still keep comping back to the Raptor.

You've been licking your chops for a while! lol

Truck prices are stupid crazy anymore.

1. It's a unicorn engine because Chevy has never needed to go twin turbo to reach those output numbers. Ford has repeatedly had to go forced induction in Mustangs and GT's to keep up. I find it funny how many Ford guys are pounding their chests over the ecoboost engines. Yes, their very good, but it's really not difficult to get 500+hp out of twin turbos.....at all.

2. I was referring to the production cars of each brand coming out, not the Le Mans cars. I wasn't clear on that.

3. Perhaps I'm not up to date on the final numbers of the new GT, but from what I've read the horsepower is said to be "600 plus". Where are you seeing that it makes more than the zo6? Typed the last message on my phone so not sure why I said 550hp instead of 650hp. I don't see how they're different levels of technology either. One is forced induction through a belt driven impeller. The other is forced induction through exhaust gas. I believe both are intercooled, no? Boost is boost.

4.I guess the value of something is entirely subjective so I'll leave the outrageous price tag alone.
On a side note, I really like Ford. I have a Windsor block in my garage right now that is more than likely going to be a 408 on juice. A sbf, imo, is the best sounding engine ever made. I have a friend who has a little 306 with flowmaster 40's dumped with an alphabet cam and the thing sounds like pure gold. At my heart, I'll always be a Corvette guy, even though I've owned and appreciate Mustangs and Fords.

Since you guys are discussing vehicles anyway, I would like to take a short detour and ask about your opinions on Dual Clutch Transmissions (sometimes referred to as automated manual transmissions) vs. Continuously Variable Transmissions as more and more manual transmissions and standard automatic transmissions are becoming a decreasing presence in the marketplace.

A Ford Raptor has always been my dream truck. After buying a house (and maybe a boat), a Raptor will be my next big purchase

Or perhaps they just have different priorities. People can make enough to afford those things without purchasing them. I view it as a luxury tax. People who make more money often inflate their living standards and purchase things like this.

It confers no great advantage on the purchaser (assuming it's driven on normal roads) but it's something they must have to be complete. And then it rapidly depreciates over the span of 10-15 years.

Our lives are short so order them accordingly. I'm certain my book-buying habits would make many people roll their eyes since I have accessible libraries all around me.

If you really want this truck, purchase it in 3 years with 40-50k on it. You'll likely save half.

And I find plenty of ways to waste money but vehicles were never my (matt) forte.

This is what I do. I bought my FX4 used and put down a ton of money. The nice things about these trucks is that they don't depreciate as fast as other vehicles after the initial drop in value. A newer model F150 with over 100k miles is still worth over $20k, regardless of model. So I bought mine with a large down payment and know that I'm not risking getting upside down with it.

You're also right about it being a lifestyle choice. I have boats, do a lot of backcountry stuff and have rental properties that require me to have a truck. So it is something I need to accommodate those things. But I also got to admit... It feels good to pull up places in my big truck. Mean muggin' fools.

I'm glad you took my comments charitably. I have a couple acres and I'll eventually need a truck since we're constantly borrowing my FIL's to haul lumber, supplies, etc. They are useful so I'm really not pointing at truck drivers or SUV drivers (of which I am one).

I'm pointing at the luxury market with my comments. I have no hatred for those who can afford luxury items, regardless if I think the purchase is foolish or not. That's the beauty of our lives, each of us orders our lives around principles and desires.

My world has enough room for owners of jets and million dollar cars so a few raptor trucks on the road makes no difference to me. I view them the same as people who drive "fancy label" cars, in need of attention but not bad human beings from this single data point.

**sidenote - I really wish the average truck had better MPGs.

They do hold their value. I just bought a 2008 Lincoln LT about 9 months ago. It is in showroom shape even after 8 years. Former owner took care of it. Dealers are still selling 2008's for 22K. I got lucky and got mine for 18K.

Interesting avenues this thread has threatened to go down.

Wooley, what model is your FX4?

I will be buying a truck in the next year, either the Rap (please God make it somewhat reasonable) or an XLT or Lariat. Nowadays, the FX4 is an off road package that adds an E-Locker and hill decent. Maybe different shocks and a skid plate or something. I believe years past the FX4 model had cosmetic differences as well, but not anymore.

My carolla can get over 40 if the wind isn't blowing . Usually have to change my underwear when I get home.

Raptors are lame. If I'm ever dropping that kind of coin on a vehicle, it will not be American.

Post pics of your Ridgeline then ; )

*Every big truck has all the bells and whistles inside the cabin now, and that Lincoln had the same specs as the Lariat that year IIRC.

Drives like 4x4 Ferrari IMHO. Incredible power/speed, crazy suspension, etc.. The new model coming out has the eco boost, upgraded suspension, aluminum body, and great improvement in MPG. And it simply looks badass.

Yes It does look pretty great for a Ford..
