I don't get why, if it's already on tape delay, we have to stay up til midnight to see it all unfold every day... you can't tell me that more people are staying up til midnight on a Tuesday night to watch a medal ceremony than would be watching if they had started everything an hour or two earlier... 6-10>8-12...

Anyone watch the coverage right before Michael Phelps swam in the 200 meter butterfly semi-finals? That was as good as it gets for live TV. Chad le Clos who edged Phelps in London for the upset was doing everything he could to intimidate Phelps before the race. He kept standing in front of him within a few feet, acted like he was boxing, staring at Phelps and doing whatever he could to try and intimidate Phelps. Phelps never acknowledged him. Then proceeded to beat him.

Just watched the 200m butterfly finals. Phelps and le Clos were next to each other and le Clos tried to stare him down again but Phelps never looked his way. Then Phelps went on to take gold and le Clos didn't even medal. Was awesome!!!

I loved the whole damn thing. When they show shots from under water or mid race, Le Clos looks at him at each turn and during the race. He seemed more obsessed with Phelps than actually competing.

IMO, I think Le Clos knows he was lucky to win in London and not being as confident, he's trying that strategy to beat Phelps. I think it backfired and he actually convinced himself he couldn't beat him.

Phelps and Ladecky are straight up bosses. I will bet Phelps is back in four years in some relays.

Gymnastics is kind of a dumb set up - why can't the US send two teams and get more than 2 competing in the all around? Biles should just get a platinum medal and let everyone else compete for Gold.

I still hold true to the fact that there should be one normal individual competing in each event just so we can understand how much better these Olympians are. I don't even think i could get up on a balance beam without breaking something.

I know what you mean. In high school gym class (way back in 1966) a classmate (who shall remain unnamed) cracked his sternum doing kip-ups on the parallel bars.
