Rio de Janeiro (CNN) — [Breaking news update, posted at 3:15 p.m. ET]
Surveillance videos show that there was no violence or robbery committed against the four American Olympic swimmers who Brazilian police say vandalized a Rio gas station.

[Breaking news update, posted at 3:10 p.m. ET]
Civil Police chief Fernando Veloso says "there was no robbery" in Rio de Janeiro the way the US swimmers have described. One or more of the four vandalized a gas station, said Veloso.

It's really starting to look like these guys got drunk, got in a fight, vandalized a store and then made up an elaborate robbery to cover it up.

If so, completely embarrassing to our country.

Ryan Lochte and Hope Solo have utterly shamed the United States with their conduct at these games.

I know it's Manti, but it made me laugh. It's going to be a lonnnnng time before his girlfriend story dies. No pun intended.

Meh. It's only 2016. By now only 5th year Seniors will have even played with Manti. Old joke is old and well played out.

Rio Olympics 2016: Banned pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva elected to IOC commission

"I am very thankful to all athletes who voted for me here in Rio," said Isinbayeva. "Thank you so much for your trust, for your belief, for your support. For me it was very, very important. Today we won all together.

"It is very important for me because I was preparing for this Olympics for a long time and unfortunately I was not able to participate. It is a kind of compensation."

More than 5,000 athletes from 23 countries voted in the elections, which take place at each Olympic Games. Of those, more than 1,300 cast their vote for Isinbayeva.

She will serve an eight year term.

Can't believe how many people are outraged by Brazilians booing during the events. Like these journalists never watched another sports outside the olympics which might very well be true.

Rio police say two U.S. swimmers change story and admit Ryan Lochte's account of gunpoint robbery was false - LA Times

"Let's give these kids a break," he said. "Sometimes you take actions you later regret. They are magnificent athletes. Lochte is of one of the best swimmers of all time. They had fun. They made a mistake. It’s part of life. Life goes on.”

Lochte's like 32 years old. He's not a kid and needs to grow up.

I smelled a rat from the get-go with this story. Agree, Lochte needs to grow up and come clean with the real story.

I question why they came up with this story, this whole thing isn't adding up. Obviously someone is lying, and it certainly looks like it's the US swimmers. Why create the story though, seems like they were drawing unneeded attention to themselves if they were trying to avoid getting caught. Could this be a cover up by Brazil to try and save face? And why would they destroy/vandalize this bathroom? I could see the young 20-something swimmers getting blitzed and making a bad decision, but Lochte certainly was old enough to know better and put a stop to stupid behavior. This whole story is weird.

[EDIT] I kind of saw "swimmers" and just started replying with my thoughts from earlier today without reading. Still don't understand why they would do this, such a bad move.

You can make a top five D Dags in sports and not even leave Boston... hell you barely have to leave the Patriots offense.

Helen Maroulis becomes the first U.S. female to get gold in woman's wrestling!

This was huge! Great match. She really went at the highly touted Japanese wrestler. I don't know enough about wrestling, but I read the Japanese girl had a lot more experience and was heavily favored.

So cool to see how emotional Helen was on the medal stand. What a great moment!
