I'm a little late to the party but this is why I think he wins the job. He was far more affective than I think most thought he would be with the zone read.

My fave things I've heard in this pressed is that Kelly sounds very comfortable and impressed by our freshman and that Rochell has been lifting to the max this off season. I am sooooo excited for this season. So many new starters. Great QB's. Lots of intrigue. Defense is finally getting sorted.

I think it's his to lose. BK is saying all the right things, but Kizer put together a pretty good resume last year and his speed is very deceptive. He had several long runs where the defense ended up chasing him because he could get to that corner faster then most thought. Those long legs eat up a lot of ground quickly.

I'd also add that in terms of physical ability to hit all the throws, we haven't had a QB like Kizer during BK's tenure. Golson's arm was very strong but he had trouble with accuracy on deep throws, not much touch, just a cannon. Kizer had trouble with footwork and short arming some throws early but that wasn't an ability issue, as much as a consistency with fundamentals issue. To me, he's head and shoulders above Zaire in what he can do in the passing game. With that said, I also haven't seen Zaire throw all that much for quite awhile now.

Great post. Bang on. I concur. I think Kelly sort of reiterated what I've been thinking regarding our QB situation. Kizer is excellent and ran the ball a lot better than expected but Zaire also made winning look easy against Texas and there's no argument about it. This is going to be a very tough decision for Kelly. I really don't know how it will shake out but if it were up to me to make a decision right now I'd pick Kizer to start but would put Zaire in the game if Kizer is failing and also in mop up time and I'd start Zaire against the academies and or a lesser opponent. He's too good to keep off the field. I strongly feel Kizer will have a big year, go to the NFL, Zaire will transfer and Wimbush will start next year
Go Irish!

I would think you'd rather have the older guy at C, and the less inexperienced kid at OG. Center has a lot more responsibility.

And it's a shame that McGovern isn't competing.

Importantly, I think Harry concurs. Since Harry has been prince of the offensive line we have seen younger kids move into RT and then over to LT as they mature. We have also seen G be a proving ground for future linemen, whether they end up as center, guard, or tackle. And guard has been used as a way to get injured centers back into the lineup.

I believe this is all Harry. And I am watching right guard this year with relish.

Right tackle was summed up when Kelly and other coaches spoke to how elite a prospect Alex Bars is/was last year.

And now for your inspection, imagine this : Kramer Rt Guard '16; Rt T '17; and Lt T '18. That would be a well rounded, technically superior product. Or the same sort of thing starting with Liam next year.

I get really pissed off every time I hear a Nyles Morgan quote.

I worry about this.... I don't want a flip flop thing.. I want oneguy have the job and only be replaced if he is truly struggling

I just wanna take a minute and let all of you know how much I appreciate the fact that "Loy'd" is a term that has become such a natural and pervasive term on IE.

Just an absolutely flawless transition into the collective vocabulary, and I commend us all, as a group.
I approve the above messages.

Did we get any additional info on butler and his foot? Or are we still talking about players who aren't playing for ND this year?

Not to mention, Kizer's footwork, accuracy and his vision of the short/check-down parts of the field were the most impressive parts of the Spring game.

If he finds a rhythm with one or two of our receivers in terms of deep throws in camp, and his noticeable improvement in the short passing game from the spring wasn't an aberration, it's going to be realllllllllllllly hard for Malik to take the job back full-time.

Just my opinion, though. Maybe Malik shows up in camp and looks like the best QB in the history of college football and takes the job back easily.

He's my boy.

If Kizer gets the job, I think I'll get over it. He's a baller, no doubt.

Seriously. Click the three dots next to the rewteets and the likes/favorites. Then click embed tweet and copy/past that link.

Koon appreciates and values your opinion, but he will be continuing to post the link. Thanks!

If we lose, 1.

I've already got my Rays-of-Sunshine post thought out for if we do the unthinkable in Texas in week one.

It goes as follows:

IrishLion said:
Oklahoma lost to Texas in week 6 last year.

Oklahoma only played 12 games last year.

Oklahoma made the playoffs last year.

The Kelly presser has me excited to watch the defense, Miles Boykin, and ESB.

20-30 snaps from Jarron? That's it? I would have expected at least double. That injury is a year removed and he played in the bowl game.

He's returning from a lis franc? or someother knee injury? I think it's reasonable to expect a limited number of snaps, he'll likely be on the field for the majority of 1st and 2nd downs.

Loved CJ in this role... I wish they would keep him in there and let him grow into the position...

I think this is more about CJ still in recovery. I know the presser said everyone else was healthy outside of Butler, Watkins and Brent but I surmise CJ is still not 100%.

Either that or they believe he's the penciled in slot and they don't want to risk injury.
