This is apparently an unpopular opinion, but put me down as a guy who thinks Winston is going to be an excellent QB at the next level. Tampa Bay might wreck him by being Tampa Bay, but he's really freaking good. He also strikes me as being more of a "dumb" guy than Manzel. Manzel is a POS by nature, Winston is just genuinely goofy and dumb. I think corporate NFL culture is better at dealing with dummies than it is with POS. I also thought Manzel would be a cancer in an NFL locker room. I could see an NFL locker room liking Winston. We'll see though.
This. I think Winston will be a star personally. He was always locked in on the field and some of the comebacks he led this year were incredible. Hell, our D was pretty good when healthy for the FSU game, and he tore us apart in the 2nd half. All of the trouble he got into (looking at the evidence...I don't think the rape allegations were genuine) was typical college kid stuff. He'll be fine in the pros. If I drafted Winston, I'd make him carry a clipboard and be the 3rd string for his whole rookie year then late him take over year 2.
I think Mariota will struggle anywhere outside Philly. That Oregon offense always puts up numbers regardless of who is at QB. I don't think he's special personally. Their offense is horribly simple. It's so much tougher to transition from no-huddle to the NFL than I think some people realize. Especially at Oregon where he was essentially given 2-3 options on half the field to throw to and then told to tuck it away and run.
Petty I have no idea. I wouldn't draft him, but he could be good. I'm wary of any Baylor guy just cause that offense is the opposite of what he will be running in the NFL. Not a big Hundley fan either, although I don't really have any reason for that. Just a gut feeling he won't pan out.
I think the Browns would be making a horrible mistake taking Mariota. They've shown no ability to develop a QB (much less one with a huge transition like Mariota would have) and have no weapons right now. That team is good and ready to win right now, they are probably a top-8 team in the league just looking at their D and OL. I'd try and add a couple good pieces at #12 and #19 and hope McCown can be a minor step up from Hoyer or that JFF has matured (don't laugh--Joe Thomas doesn't mess around and said yesterday that it's "night and day" with Manziel this year) and can give them competent play and 10 wins.
