My question is how the fuck do you have so many upperclassmen safeties who haven't learned to play the position? Straight talk... why can't Elliot get these guys coached up?
We're on the same page about that.
Part of me goes back to the differences in college and pro football. Pro has soooo many more hours dedicated to practice, working out, meetings, and film sessions, on top of their years of experience. In college, there are so many more restrictions on working out, practice, and coach-player interaction. Oh, and technically, the player should be taking a full load of classes as well.
And we know some of the best teams are not getting strong intellectuals to fill their 85 scholarship spots. So I think there can be too much "scheme" and "mental aspect" sometimes in the college game. I think pure athleticism and instincts matter a whole lot more in college than pro, due to the restrictions.
Sometimes, you gotta just let the guys go play.
