God Nolan is a tool.
So far through camp (without pads=porn without nudity) its about as expected.
Love what Jhonny Williams brings to the table. Romeo is either gonna feel the pressure and play harder/better, or get past up.
Nothing from Trumbetti is surprising.
Cornerbacks are just simply loaded. Its amazing to see the talent on the perimeter both offensively and defensively.
DL is scary and I won't be convinced otherwise. An injury or two and we're fucked.
Im so reluctant to get excited about Amir or Ishaq but both have started well. I need to see it on the field this time.
Justin Brent- Wow. Super impressed with this kid.
Barring injury, CB is your best offensive weapon. I promise and ill bet on it. This kid is an all around receiver. Nothing against Fuller who seems one dimensional, but CB is on another level then a lot of you realize.
Koyack and Smythe are simply next in line. Koyack looks solid.
OL- keep bringing the hog mollies in. Loaded.
Taurean Folson is forgotten because of the hype surrounding GB. Mistake in my mind. Very dynamic and equally as electric. Head and shoulders starter IMO.

I think people would be doing themselves a favor to temper their Jhonny Williams excitement. While he is working hard and looking the part, I find it hard to believe that it will continue when pads get on.
I just find it odd that a kid could come in and contribute as a freshman at Notre Freaking Dame, when less than a year ago, he was playing for Berrien Springs. This is a terrible level of football. I mean really bad. He should have had video game stats there if that was the case. It would be awesome if he could pull something like that off, but I just find it unlikely. Tons of potential and I can't wait to see what he turns into though.

Re: my post from yesterday about the PI, I'm just now getting back on to catch up. To those who are not concerned, that's fine. You bring up valid points and could very well be right about the situation. (Btw, as stated in that post, I'm aware that these are very short clips we're analyzing and the whole body of work may not be an issue, but this is what we have to go with at the moment so...) The video featuring the DBs shows a lot of great plays, physicality, etc. I have no doubt they'll be a solid group. However, STL, idk what videos you've been watching but even the guys who aren't concerned are at least acknowledging the PI shown throughout them. Maybe the coaches want that kind of play and are willing to gamble that it won't get called. Idk. I'll contain my concern and see how things play out on Saturdays.

MSU's defense relies on similar press man concepts which bait the referees into calling PI. They do this tactic so often that it makes the referees appear flag happy and no ref is gonna want to be throwing flags play after play and be identified as "ruining" a game. It's kind of a challenge to them and if the refs don't start flagging them early then they just keep doing it until they do.
The only game last year they were regularly flagged for PI last year was against ND and they lost.

I'm with you. It reminds me of last year when some thought Tuitt looked out of shape in camp and at the beginning of the season and they were berated because, "Obviously the coaches have a handle on it and he'll be just fine come game time". One disappointing season later and those posters were on the money.
Yes, they are very small clips. Maybe they are just trying to instill physicality early. Maybe the drill calls for holding, humping and all-around rough housing. I've just never seen drills used to develop bad habits. Perfect practice makes....something.
Anyway, I do like seeing our secondary fighting and taking on the challenge. I do like seeing our WRs having to battle at the line, they'll be well-accustomed to physical play when the season gets here.
Excited for another practice video.

IDK how you couldn't bet the over. If we seriously only win 7 games or less, people will be calling for BK's head. That'd mean a loss on every good game we have (unless we lose some stupid game and win a 'good' game): Michigan, Stanford, USC, ASU, Florida State.
We're going to win at least 9. I'll bet anything on it. And I'm not thrilled with 9 at all, but what can you do with our stupid scheduling.

Come on guys, temper the enthusiasm a little bit. I'm always so tempted to be right there with you but we have an unknown product on the defense and a completely revamped offense and new offensive linemen.
Not yet: Michigan, Stanford, Louisville, FSU, UNC, ASU and Northwestern might have something to say about that. With a tip of the hat to the others because upsets are commonplace in college football, especially with a young team.
Those are some potent teams we are playing. Michigan always plays us tough, Stanford will run, Louisville has their old coach back, FSU, UNC won 6 of their last 7 games and their QB is now in his 2nd year. ASU is a tough team and we were lucky to get the breaks last year (with apologies to Grace and Councell) and Northwestern is a dark horse this year.
I just can't get on board after having been overconfident the last 10+ years.
Excited to see what we do but I don't count any of those games as expected wins. New DC, new OC, new QB coach, new defensive scheme, 8 players in the NFL, young across the board, so many unknowns that I have to temper the expectations.
Fuck it, we're winning 11 and making the playoffs

I would say that Tuitt is a bad example. There wasn't limitations regarding the amount of time needed to form an opinion. He was overweight, end of story. Tuitt's situation also didn't require scope. He was overweight, end of story. It didn't matter "why" he was overweight, he just was. The question of "why" you are seeing PI in the clips is unknown. It could be for a variety of normal reasons. We do not know that.
Practices are over 2 hours long, we've had three. We have seen three 2 minute clips with small portions of them being actual plays. Do the math.

I'd say Tuitt was a good example. We repeatedly saw Tuitt out of shape on 2 min clips but many, myself included, thought it was an illusion or the coaches wanted him at that size or any number of reasons but it was almost concluded unanimously that Tuitt would challenge for the single season sack record. This was just after his monster 2012 campaign and we were giddy as a schoolgirl.
You act as though everyone was in agreement that he was out of shape or overweight and I would strongly disagree. Many assumed it was good weight, or being shed through fall camp, or he was asked to play bigger, etc. etc.
As for the math lesson, I've mentioned repeatedly that I understand this is a small sample size and this last post I even made mention that this may be drill related or designed to teach physicality.
I'll maintain my position and you, yours. If it's cleaned up by week 4's 2 minute clips and/or we aren't getting penalized excessively against Michigan, I'll gladly eat my words and admit that all of the chillaxed posters had it right and that we were fretting over nothing.

Funny story, I'm not a huge Nolan fan either. I got black out drunk for the first pep rally last year, and as he was talking I was trash talking him with some things I'm not too proud of. Wasn't my finest moment haha
