Doesn't it still make you drool about what might have been though?

Whoa. RT @JFowlerCBS Oregon St's Mike Riley to interview for Wisconsin job this wk, sources told @CBSSports Wisconsin set to interview Oregon State's Mike Riley - CBSSports.com

Riley at Wisconsin? Sounds like his agent just wants an excuse to negotiate a better deal. His $1.3 million salary is a bargin in the Pac 12.

Riley is 59 and already has a contract with ORS through 2019 when he's 66. He's spurned his alma mater, UA, twice. He was more desireable than Kiffin at USC (that's when ORS extended his contract through 2019. He has family roots in Alabama and in the Northwest (Idaho).

One of the reasons he said no to Bama was he grew up a coach's kid moving frequently. Family stabilty was an important issue. As I recall his wife like the Northwest much more than Alabama summers. So now Wisconsin weather is attractive?

Riley's got the most wins in ORS history. He's won 55% of his games at a school that has averaged only 48%. Expectations are a lot higher in Madison. Bielema won almost 74% of his games where 57% is typical. Don't see it happening.

Did u just post your own tweet?

Not to mention that it happened Monday.

I think Diaco is staying for another year. Too much passion for this team and school to leave before the National Championship. I cited his Broyles Award speech as my evidence and recommend watching it ASAP if you haven't watched it yet

Might not be true. This is a retweet of an Oregon State beat writer by Irish Illustrated

Oregon State fans need to take a deep breath. Sources telling me reports about Riley interviewing at Wisconsin are false. Stay tuned.

Mike Riley says he "has not interviewed, isn't scheduled to interview and has no interest in Wisconsin."

If people keeping saying no this could be bad for us...

I know that Riley doesn't seem like the kind of guy to lie to everyone's face but we have all seen that song and dance before. I am not interested in xyz coaching position, two days before standing behind a podium at xyz university saying it is their dream job.

que sera sera whatever will be will be

No point in getting all freaked out about Diaco. At least with Alvarez there Diaco would almost certainly get to coach the national championship game. Alvarez was an ND man I'm sure we would be okay with Diaco staying.

Honestly Wisconsin is a pretty good. If they offered Diaco should take it. Good for him if it happens.

How come Kirby Smart isn't getting as much attention as Bob Diaco in the coaching search world?

ND is dealing with distractions with Bob D would like Bama have some distractions with their DC as well.

Do people see Smart as Saban's tool and thats why they don't hire him? Is it a reginal thing (Most of the schools looking at Diaco where NE and MW schools)?

He did interview for the Auburn job. But that's the only one I've heard him mentioned in connection with.

Talked to a source today who thinks Barry Alvarez may be seriously tempted to stay on as Badgers HC after Rose Bowl.

At least for a year or two. Let's him swoop in and save the day, and spend some time handpicking the right guy.

That would seem to take off the list the last likely destination for Diaco, at least in the short run. I guess Wisconsin could still offer him their job, but in that case he'd certainly be able to stay through the title game, and frankly Alvarez seems to be angling for a larger fish.

Wisconsin interviewed Mel Tucker--jacksonville defensive coordinator for the head job--he is a freind of alvarez and was coached by him---he was a former defensive back under alvarez and has LOADs of support from wisconsin boosters. He is highly respected at jacksonville and was considered for the head coaching job there.

He apparently has said he was not interested in HC at Wisconsin a while back but he is very much WANTED by Alvarez and meetings have proceeded. Don't be surprised to see him get the offer next week.
