We will have no fifth years back next year if this recruiting heat keeps going. I'm not saying fifth years are easily dispensable but my gawd, we're flirting with top 10/top 15 players at most positions.

Also, Dax would be a killer in Elko's scheme.

Finally, Elko has already proved be a good hire. His recruiting prowess has been sorely lacking. Let's see if this can be sustained through an entire cycle.

The only thing we'll be sad about this year is everyone they had to leave on the table because they ran out of room. What a great problem to have... until one of them becomes Kuechly or Elliot.

Let us hope that it is not only sustained, but nurtured and emboldened by our defense wrecking fools and racking up chaos-stat totals.

All of the sacks and TFL's

There are a still a lot od offers out there that need to be closed, but '18 does seems to have a different vibe.

I agree with your assessment and share your enthusiasm. His ability to make plays is absolutely remarkable. Great athleticism and football smarts.

Hollifield and Gant please.....

Thank you

Probability of both, more than you would think.

Probability of one, looking really good.

Probability of zero, substantial enough to keep it in your pants.

The win : Either would be a tremendous gain for Elko's scheme.

The grand slam : Both, with Elko's scheme would be devastating.

Swing away, boys!

Dax with Gant adds to a lot of linebackers already. I know that we're all counting on Ovie growing into Drop, but is Justin Ade at that point too? Or is this all wishful thinking?

Gant and Holifield on top of Bauer, Oghoufo and Little Ademilola with Elko & Lea possibly still in the market for JOK 2.0? Without a good old fashioned scandal or a rabid dog eating everyone's homework, you're gonna need a lot of summer transfers to get to 20 available scholarships.

Mike Frank, over on ISD just alluded to 23 as the top end of '18's class.

Nobody we have in '18 is an Elko linebacker. Justin Ademilola and Ovie Oghoufo are at least drops, at least. Don't see them staying as backers, or having the versatility of either Gant or Hollifield, within Elko's system. Both of those guys could actually play rover to get to the field, though their are other better permanent candidates. And they both could play Buck, or Mike.

Initial rumblings of retirements.

Probably will be transfers, or retirements, because the new staff has some games to win, so those there better make sure they are in step, playing up to the level. All of a sudden it looks like there are a lot of good highly rated guys that will.

Would Ovie and Li'l Ade both playing Drop be a huge negative to attracting any elite pass rushers though?

At what position.

Don't you think that Elko will grab elite pass rushers for situational play, which will help the Irish and make their stats look good?

I know this kid is special, but is there enough playing time for inside-type linebackers in the Elko defense to justify taking two in the same class?

Well the base defense calls for 2 ILB (4-2-5), so that's probably where we'll end up every cycle, having 2 ILB's. However, if we were to add Hollifield, Gant, and Bauer, that would be 3 for 2 positions.

I would hope that they would. Redshirt one of the ones you take this year and sign one less next year. Let attrition in the class play out. Let transfers figure it out. Hell, if a kid like this wants to commit, I say you take him no matter what. Figure it out on the back end.

Hollifield would be Mike, and Gant would be Buck.

Yeah there would be enough room.

Not much for opponents to advance the ball, though!

Yeah, then if we can't afford three for two positions, take the two biggest, best, and fastest.

Remember, the existing roster consists of Nyles Morgan, Greer Martini,(gone before they get on campus); Te'von Coney, Asmar Bilal, Josh Barajas, Jonathan Jones, (Coney and Jones may be solid but we will know this spring about the others, and Coney doesn't have a history of remaining healthy); Jamir Jones, (who has really outgrown LB, and is a drop/defensive end.) So for nine slots that's three, (really two and one-half,) solid players. Add to '17's recruits Adams, White, and Owusu, who is pretty much going to be a rover, I don't think three elite 18's is really a problem. That really means that ND will have 10 or 11 guys for three positions for one year.

Neither do I, just explaining the numbers to Grey.
