Look at this rock-jaw. 236 lbs??? How did he put on that much weight and when did he turn 25?

Oh well, at least I have a 1/32 shot at him playing the middle for the Bears at 6-2, 255.

WAIT! ... WHAT???
As the 247Sports Crystal Ball continues to trend North Carolina for Top247 linebacker Dax Hollifield, I’ve heard from a couple different sources that believe that Virginia Tech and Stanford are the programs that may actually be in prime position to land the U.S. Army All-American.

Ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 4 inside linebacker and No. 69 prospect overall, the blue-chip Hollifield is fresh off his official visit to see the Hokies pummel the Tar Heels. There might not be a prospect that has been to Blacksburg in this 2018 recruiting cycle as many times as the Shelby (N.C.) High standout’s been. On this particular trip, it was his most time spent with the players on the team.

I’m close to putting in a 247Sports Crystal Ball forecast in favor of Virginia Tech for the 6-foot-2, 236-pound Hollifield but want to see how his upcoming official to Stanford goes.

Notre Dame is trying to make another push for Hollifield, who is also considering South Carolina and Florida State.

Hollifield is having a terrific senior season with 85 tackles including 22 stops for loss in nine games.

Been high on this kid since his Freshman year. He's gonna be a great one to watch. Unfortunately, it will be from afar.

Is this because of us utilizing the rover position now instead of 3 LBs?

Now I'm not saying it will happen or that their are even rumors. They are just bringing in more LB/Rovers than they are losing and that's not including the safeties who can play Rover like 220lb Genmark-Heath.

Essentially, they are unsure about what they got in the last class at ILB.

With that said, they aren’t targeting guys just for numbers, they are going after impact players. So I don’t think this is a reach for numbers but a strike while the irons hot, if we can get them. This also doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the Rover position as, as we haven’t targeted any that project their.

So they don't think Drew White and David Adams can be impact players. Awesome.

There are injury concerns with Adams and I’m not sure White fits what Elko is looking for. Not the end of the world as we are bringing in a group that is certainly a step, maybe two, above that group. But if we can add a top 10 ILB, why not.

Not exactly shocking tbh. White was relatively lowly rated and half this board is faster than Adams.

White was lowly rated but supposedly had offers from Michigan, LSU, and OSU which gave me hope. I guess when none of the big three Florida schools have interest you should really question the kids ability.

Adams had offers from across the country so I’d be surprised if he didn’t contribute outside of injuries.

Here’s the rub, in one post you say impact players, and in the next, you say contribute. Those are vastly different outcomes and the second is probably attainable by both. The staff believes they have a chance to add another impact player, so they are going to give it a shot. They aren’t trying to add a ST’s player, which if that’s all White turns out to be, isn’t a huge miss or loss.

This really isn’t that big of a deal. There are 85 scholarship players on most rosters, and quite a few of those players are not impact players.

If 1 or 2 LB's from the '17 cycle transfer or can't be relied upon to actually play LB in a game, it kind of is a big deal, especially when looking at overall numbers and roster management. This has been an ongoing problem during the Kelly era. CB, S, DT, DE, possibly LB have all been position groups that the staff has had major numbers problems with and had to over recruit in cycles. Kids from the next cycle aren't giving ND as much of a look because they loaded up at that position the previous year. But then players already on the roster decide to transfer because there's a glut at their position and/or they aren't really able to cut it. But by then, Kelly and staff are trying to fix the problem 1 or 2 cycles later, when it's already a pressing issue.

Can anybody envision a scenario next season where Mustipher, Bars, Jones, Adams, and Tillery return, but Coney and Tranquil leave? I can. And what we'd have is a seemingly stacked roster, at virtually all positions (except 1), poised for a potential Natty run...except ND is playing and relying on true FR at the LB position, and it ends up costing them dearly in only 1 or 2 games, ending the Natty run.

It seems like most years, ND coulda/woulda been great, except for the problems/lack of depth at 1 or 2 position groups.

Hollifield or PuPu? Both? Same chance with both?

Dax got a lot of VT CB's yesterday after trending to UNC for a while. Feels like he's getting close. I'd love to see them get both. First of all because they are championship level talent. Secondly, the chaos of roster management would be fascinating to observe... but also very stressful. They can't bring in 6 LB's without some roster overhaul. Not even if the Top 4 LB's go pro.

Preach. If only the staff overhaul would have taken place a year earlier. Can't have that many new coordinators/assistants coming in without them determining some guys don't fit into the plans and some leaving. I made a list in Jan/Feb of who the transfer prospects were and which redshirt Jr's would GT or get a 5th year. It will be interesting to see how that pans out.

If you even have a chance with this kid, you gotta go all out for him. Barring injury, I see him as one of the Top LB's in the country within two years.

4 year starter in HS, 3 state championships to his name (going for 4 this season), only 4 losses in that time. I want Dax.

Hopeful to see ND sneak in.

You'll appreciate this... when I saw this last photo of him I thought: Looks like a kid who never lost a HS wrestling match in Iowa.

Right now his visits were/are FSU, VT, South Carolina, UNC and Stanford. ND would need to bump Stanford because I believe they are his only OV left. Otherwise an unofficial would have to do. OV doesn't seem likely.

Yeah, this is unsubstantiated optimism right now. Until he schedules a visit, there ain't no point in talkin bout his #cruitin.
