I was beginning to wonder "Why is there an image of Chris Pratt in Brock's thread??"

So...is Brock still on the team? Is he injured? Is he going to redshirt this year? I don’t think I have seen him playing the past two weeks.

The emergence of Tommy Tremble probably has something to do with it.

More so the return of Kmet.

Kmet was out early, DNP per UND.com) in the season for 2 weeks. ND participation chart show Wright starting those 2 weeks and playing in all games so far. Tremble played the first 3 weeks and then starting in the 4th week. Kmet, Tremble, and Wright have played in all games where available with receptions being 13, 5, and 1, total yardage being 173 (in only two games), 98, and 5, yards/reception 13.3, 19.6, and 5, yards/game are 86.5, 24.5, and 1.2 respectively.

Of course "Starts" are depended upon which personnel Long wanted of the field for his scripted start. Mileage (PT) may vary with play calls, targets, AND blocking ability particularly with Armstrong sidelined. Until he returns or Jones or Bo demonstrate there's a #1 back on the field I suspect 12 personnel will dominate PT and two of those seem to head and pecs above the others.

He caught the "touchdown" pass vs Ga that didn't count because Ga called timeout at the last second.

I know Kmet has been a beast, but not sure he has 173 receptions in 2 games. Perhaps that's the number of plays they've been in on?

Pretty sure he is stating:

Kmet 173 yards
Tremble 98 yards
Wright 5 yards

As a detached blocker, Wright has struggled while Tremble has thrived. Wright is a better in-line blocker but he had some key whiffs when detached in short yardage situations earlier this season.

Can't believe he's been such a non-factor not just today but during his whole career. Kid was the #1 TE in his class.

I second this. Is it just because ND is loaded at TE and Kmet, Tremble and Mayer are just to elite he gets no opportunity?

Wright has been relegated to the "second" or blocking TE in most of these situations. Many times he is the in-line blocker on a power run play, or lead blocker out of the backfield. If you had Kmet also on the field, who would you throw to? BTW, blocking somebody is not a non-contributing activity.

Brock Wright's career stats, spanning 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020
4 rec., 57 yards, 1 TD
2017 Composite #71 overall recruit, #2 TE

Michael Mayer in the first and only game of his career:
3 rec., 38 yards
2020 Composite #32 overall recruit, #2 TE

I've been waiting for Wright to break out and I've been rooting for him. But it seems that for whatever reason, it is looks like it's not going to happen and he was extremely overrated as a recruit.

This seems to be an accurate statement. And Wright in all honesty isn’t some all world blocking TE. He has struggled at times being an in-line blocker and at FB. And I’m not talking about earlier in his career, this was last season he had some struggles blocking.

I feel like ND alternates between a high 4* and a filler 3* at TE recruiting every years..... it’s just that it’s always the 3* that steps up and continues Tight End U.

Kind of feel bad for Brock. Probably thought this would be his year to showcase his talent and gets passed immediately by an all-world TE. A grad-transfer this spring probably would be good for him.

I saw him running route in the middle of the field on a Book scramble. He looked out of place athletically... But he’s a solid inline TE.

Maybe teams will recognized Wright was buried under elite TE talent and give him a shot, at least a practice squad look. Unlikely, considering his complete lack of production, but he would only need 15 catches to match Durham Smythe in 2017 who split time and had less catches (but way more ypc) than Alize Mack. That was enough to secure a 4th round draft selection.

Does anyone remember him ever dropping a catch?
He took a great catch on the side line last year against someone.

Wright is slow. That’s enough to make him a backup option when you recruit stud te’s like we do. Should have been rated way lower by the services. 40 time must have been a stretch.

There's no reason for Wright to be running routes unless its a PA pass on the goal line. Let Mayer and Tremble run the routes and let Wright run block.
