A little trip down memory lane.
I think this guy is going to be special. If Finke went from a walk-on to a starter, Davis potentially has an even brighter future. Dude has more even more wiggle than I expected.
And a quick shout out to our departed homie Drake29. He brought out the best in me... From the class of 2014 DL haul transferring out to D Hayes being a 6-4/260 DE and not a linebacker, to AD being a Slot/APB.

The world of college football is littered with WR's that used to be QB's.
I'm good with this as long as they grab 2 this cycle. Davis is going to make a great receiver.
Davis is the type of athlete that brings flexibility. My guess is Davis gets on the field no matter who's above him on the depth chart at QB, like a college version of Randall Cobb.
There's been more than one Irish QB who played WR, even at the NFL level.
The Randall Cobb of South Bend. 3 years of holding a clipboard and he'll be begging for a shot at the slot.
Except you're pretty much the only person talking about Davis moving positions at this time. Until the coaches give Davis some indication he could be moved, he's probably being told he's going to play QB. They may bring in a second QB, but that doesn't necessarily mean Davis automatically moves to slot - see Devin Gardner and Denard Robinson. That and as much as people like to go crazy about hand timed 4.4s and 4.5s with no verification, I'm a bit perplexed that you're not thrilled with that time. Plus, he's got the rest of Spring and Summer to get that time down until his SENIOR SEASON OF HS. He'll be plenty fast by the time he steps foot on campus.
As for the rest of the post I think we should pump the breaks a bit on marking guys down for ND. Teams rarely sign their number 1 or 2 target at QB - it's no different in 2017. The story may likely be the same - might want to let it play out.
I didn't say I guarantee he gets moved, nor am I recruiting him as an athlete. All I've said is he has the physical skill set to do other things and not waste away in clipboard purgatory. That flexibility makes him a take for me and I express that in my comments.
Regardless, I still have no problem with him being a QB recruit if they are going after another guy with more upside. I am not comfortable with them bringing in Book and Davis only, back to back. IMO, that is not the level of QB recruiting ND should be happy with. Would I tell him there's a chance he gets moved? No. I'd recruit him as a QB only but knowing all along he has the ability to shed the clipboard in a few years if he can't rise up the depth chart and/or gets passed by an '18 or '19 QB.
Which brings me to the pump the brakes part of the response. I'm a long term sales strategist. I have to assume & project that ND is going to get another Wimbush level QB. I have to expect that a Phil Jurkovec level guy is going to look at Book and Davis and say to himself, "No long term roadblocks there". I have to assume the Irish are eventually going to go after the best of the plus armed, dual threat QB's on a yearly basis as the MZ, DK, BW roadblock isn't going to be there forever. UGa and Bama don't start off every cycle looking for borderline 4 star RB's. You don't get to the stars by aiming at the moon.
The last thing he needs is a quick release...
As a slot receiver, the long catch is much more desirable.
Just wait and see.
