Son in law sent me an article. I think it may be from The Athletic. Looks like there is a good possibility Love comes back.

Love got a second-round grade from the College Advisory Committee. At the Cotton Bowl he said some of his draft feedback was lower. He also talked about being a captain next season which was a goal he set earlier.

Yeah, Love's latest comments - maybe at Cotton Bowl media day? - sounded more like someone who's leaning toward staying than planning on leaving. Talked about how being a captain had been a goal of his from Day One, etc., but also about the opportunities in the NFL. He basically said he hadn't decided yet. So who knows.

I think he's going to need to learn to play SS at the next level tbh to be an impact player. However, he may be a decent nickel too. Not sure he has the top end speed to be an elite or top corner in the league.

I hope he comes back like everyone but I’d wait until the emotions of the last game wear off. He’ll clear his head & make a business decision.

If he comes back, ND will have one of the top secondaries in the the nation...he’s that good & experienced. Hopefully, Todd Lyght can get Vaughn, Bracy et al up to speed. He’s done great work w/ Love & Pride. Time for the other upper classmen & the rookies to step up.

This is what I thought after the game. Come back for a legit revenge tour (lol @ Michigan's), be a senior captain, put another year of great tape out there to prove the doubters wrong and leave as a guaranteed 2nd round pick.

Then again, he might just leave anyways.

That's the biggest difference right now between bama and clemson and everyone else. The depth that they've created allows them to sub in and not miss a beat. Clemson lost a possible 1st round pick on the DL and if you didn't know you would have been able to tell.

I truly believe our #1 defense was good enough to win a national title. but there is just too much of a drop-off bringing in our 2's and that's what ultimately made Saturday an ass kicking.

During the Bama game, the commentators spent 5 minutes talking about a player because he was a 3 star. At Alabama it is so rare for a 3 star to get on the roster, let alone on the field, that it was a noteworthy occurrence.

He then caught a swing pass and proceeded to score a touchdown from about 20 yards out, crippling the safety who tried to tackle him in the process. That OU kid literally had to be carried off the field. Nice problem for Bama to have

If he were my son, he wouldn't have been raised as well, so there's no chance he'd be at ND. I'm not saying that coming back is the fiscally smart move, but I can see the reasoning of why he would come back. Julian has been my favorite player on the team since the Army game in 2016; I'd love to see him back, and I think that he wants to come back too. But he also might leave, for which I cannot blame him.

He should leave and take his chances. He can always get his degree later down the road. As much as I want him to come back so that Donte Vaughn doesn't get lit up every single game, that is probably what is best for him.

I've never read one of these insurance contracts before, but you can use insurance to hedge against almost any sort of risk. There's no reason why ND couldn't take that element out of the equation and let Julian decide based on his own best interests.

I don't think it's an issue if he stays. Heck ND just lost to a team where its 1st rounders decided to stay another year...look how that turned out. Look at Michigan's D players staying another year. They got more banged up than say Clemson's guys but they are still 1st round draft grades.

Some kids have other aspirations than just making a butt load of money. Also, once kids have a taste of the good life they may find it hard to come back to a classroom. So perhaps he wants to get his degree now and in his back pocket.

According to the article, he's being graded by some as a 2nd round pick and lower by others. It didn't say whether it was 3rd round or lower, but I'm guessing it's a mixed bag of 3rd and lower since he didn't specify 3rd in the article.

I think we need to keep something else in mind. ND isn't Bama, OSU or any other factory. The kids that get recruited here are a little different in their perspective and the experience at ND appears to develop these kids in a unique way.

From the small amount I read on the insurance contracts, from our discussion on it a couple/few weeks ago, those protect against a catastrophic fall more so than a slide in the draft. The Oregon CB's was hugely beneficial because he went from being a 2-3 rd pick to 7th rd. Jaylon's wasn't very beneficial because he ended up being drafted at the top of the 2nd. So he was only out a dozen draft slots or so from when the policy was "in the money", so to speak.

Maybe his position/size/measurables do not make it likely he can work in to a first round pick - maybe working for that second contract is the best business move for him. First round just gets you locked up for an extra year anyway - he could lose two years by staying for one. I won't fault him whichever way he goes.

Right, its about getting to that second contract. I remember Niklas going into detail about that when he went pro. It's sound logic... however, coming into the league under-developed has its own risks that often go unappreciated. To use Niklas as an example again, he never made it to a second contract. Including signing bonus, his initial contract was for $4mil... he missed out on $1mil of that by being cut before his fourth season. So he got $3mil total, whereas Eifert made $8.2mil on his rookie deal. Eifert's signing bonus ended up being worth more than Niklas' entire contract.

No matter what somebody does, it'll be a gamble in some direction. Niklas could've played his way into being the top tight end off the board in a weak 2015 class... or he could've gotten injured and hurt his value. Love could be a 2nd or 3rd round pick if he comes out this year... or putting together an even better year next year someone might take him mid-first as a flex DB that can play safety and corner... or he could get hurt and tumble into the mid-rounds.

Wasn’t there something out there saying that Jaylon may have to repay money based on the size of his second contract too?
