What are you disagreeing with? If it's not a severe kidney injury that would have him out multiple weeks, and it isn't a rib injury and/or minor kidney injury that would have him out vs. FSU, what is it? I suppose it could get worse, but seems like the plan is for him to be ready for Syracuse.

I'm suggesting that it could be a mild kidney injury that could require him to miss "around" two weeks. Maybe Ian will be cleared for Syracuse and maybe not.

Hypothetically, if the doctors told BK that there is a 20% chance that he would be ready for Syracuse, I would fully expect BK to say that he is expecting Book to be back for Syracuse, knowing that he could always change it later on saying that the kidney didn't progress as well as they hoped.

Bottom line is that I don't think it's guaranteed that he will be back for Syracuse and I'm also guessing it's not guaranteed that he will be out. The answer is probably someplace in between.

I don't think there's ever been a situation where that's happened under Kelly.

He doesn't usually go into that much detail if they're not sure what they're dealing with. He'd probably say something along the lines of "we'll see how he progresses this coming week" or "no decisions have been made. We're focusing on FSU right now."

The more info they have, the most he distributes. Kelly is a consummate politician, but he's pretty candid when it comes to keeping everyone up to date on injuries. I wouldn't expect him to completely tip his hand if Book were to be available or not, but I also don't think he'd be disingenuous and lead media members awry just for the sake of keeping everything under wraps.

Game time forecast, 26, but feels like 20. 0% precip.
That's a 40+ degree swing for FSU.

I saw on the news that south Florida is having temps in the mid to high 80's this week. That would be a about a 60 degree swing! I can't imagine that wouldn't affect their play at all. I think that was a part of our terrible play vs Miami last year. Just the swing was in the opposite direction.

Apparently FSU didn't get into South Bend until around 5 pm today.

That's not a lot of time to acclimate to the blistering cold.

If karma exists, this better hold true.

Miami was an albatross of bad things all happening at once, but weather for sure played a major factor. Going from cold and rainy to hot and humid in a 7 day span, including probably 40-50 degree uptick, is never good.

As much as I enjoyed seeing Brandon play well and have a great senior night, I cannot wait to see Ian back out there. He didn't look like this last year, but his accuracy is something we haven't seen in South Bend in some time. Clausen could probably throw a much better long ball but I think Book is on par with Clausen as far as accuracy and decision making. Too bad Clausen didn't have this defense.

If Book can't go, does the guy in the middle have any eligibility left?

Ian has to have this award about locked up. I'm concerned about the cash award though and the effect on his amateur status.

Real talk (and off topic but his picture is a few posts up so I think it fits) I think Tommy may be my favorite ND player of all time. He was the quarterback to break the USC streak. The Michigan Streak, and started for 2 Bowl wins. In the last 10 years most of my happy ND football memories has been with Tommy under center! So happy he’s still part of the program and mentoring new players!

Agreed on all counts. People sometimes blame Tommy for not being Cam Newton, it was never going to happen. He left it all on the field and played his ass off.

I was always a Tommy Rees fan. It was hard reading the criticisms comparing him to impossible standards. Anytime that I hear about Coach's inability to max out a QBs potential, I see Tommy's career. In an era of astounding bad luck with QBs who weren't really QBs in the head, Tommy saved our butts and helped us get pretty good seasonal records instead of negative ones.

Thankfully, we now have Tommy helping his faster-running and more gifted "little brother" Ian, and off we're going to a double digit win season.

Book's updated rankings.
#8 QB Rating
#9 Total and Raw QBR
#2 Completion %
#12 Yards/attempt

Normalized for playing only 7 games
#7 Total Yards
#11 Total TDs

A little step back this week but still very good. Still recovering, shaking the rust off, WR drops, new play calling, etc.. lots "excuses", but still tossed for almost 300 to 7 different guys and 2 TDs. Hated the INT, but really but it was 4-1 so an INC would have turned it over anyway. Should have RTDB.

Haha! If Alabama won that game, it would take a little sting out is ESPN had a headline, “Alabama finally finds Book it can read...”

What an incredible find by the staff. I bet someone last year after the bowl game that Ian would be the starter for more games than Wimbush this year. Wish I could find that bet buried in the thread-abyss.

Yep...I would have called you crazy back then but I've already stuffed my face with crow here about being a Wimbush defender in September.

I love this kid. Can tell he loves to compete, and he's so efficient. Great combination.

His targets are all getting better each week, too.

Reps for admitting it. I've eaten a fair amount of crow on past positions.

I'm just happy we finally have a QB who can run the system. It seems the only thing that eludes Book, is the consistent deep ball. Everything else is game.

If he can add the deep ball to his repertoire, he'll start seeing his draft stock go up even though he's short.
