Yikes. I'm really pulling for him, but if he doesn't improve, rather drastically, wouldn't it make sense to roll with Mack Jr. as a RS Soph who already has experience in the offense?

Still don't fully understand his decision to transfer there with a tough competition, which seems to be coming to fruition. Would be nice to see him named the starter at some point.

Agree, but for reference, Justin Fields went 4-13 131yds and 1TD in the OSU spring game. Clearly takes time to learn the system and non-contact spring games dont suit QBs with that running ability. I did see though that Mack Jr led the team on the field and is taking a leadership role, which obviously doesnt bode well for BW

Fields looked absolutely terrible, 98 yards were on one play where the WR took a 5 yard pass, the CB slipped and he went to the house

Looks like he just won the starting job by default

He's gonna be really good in their offensive scheme as long as they haven't changed it too much during the offseason.

He could be really dangerous on their designed QB runs. They basically run power-O and Iso out of the shotgun, but with an advantage in the box when they have a QB that can get the edge. Should be fun to watch.

Hope Mack Jr. recovers well, he did a great job for them filling in for Milton.

Obviously not the way BW envisioned earning the job, but I hope he tears it up down there this fall.

So did BW beat him by a foot or is he just a leg up?

Do us proud BW.

From si.com

Laken Litman: It looks like Brandon Wimbush is poised to be a starting quarterback for a contender again. The former Notre Dame QB transferred to UCF in the offseason, but was expected to battle for his job with Darriel Mack Jr., who backed up star McKenzie Milton last fall. Mack filled in for Milton when he suffered a devasting season-ending knee injury (which will keep him out this season). He led the Knights to a 17-point comeback victory against Memphis in the AAC championship game and got experience vs. LSU in the Fiesta Bowl. But this summer Mack broke his ankle in a non-football-related activity and is out indefinitely. Coach Josh Heupel said he will not be available for training camp and there’s no specific time table slated for his return. Now it seems that Wimbush, who went 13–3 as a starter for the Irish, will most certainly get a fresh start to prove himself.

Yeah, he was born intelligent, athletic and handsome. He's had a rough start, I really hope some things finally start going his way.

Hopefully after football, his CEO days will be a lot easier.

Italics? Hopefully, Brandon achieves the success he is striving for as starting QB. He was a positive influence on Notre Dame's program.

Going to be cheering hard for BW and UCF this year. Never really a fan of UCF, but have respected what they done the last several years. If ND doesn't make the playoffs, it would be really interesting to see them play UCF.

It seems that the stars are aligning for it to be ND vs a representative from the Group of 5 in a NY6 bowl (if ND wins 10 games).

The Cotton Bowl gets two at-large spots this year, I think. The other NY6 bowls have contracts with conferences, so the Cotton Bowl would take ND as the first at-large team. The other NY6 bowls would then fill their at-large spots, and then it would come back to the Cotton Bowl, which would likely leave them with the Group-of-5 representative.

Watch ND make it, finally get a big bowl game against a team they are certainly better than and still get boatraced...

I kid...but that's been my experience with ND in bowl games since I've been old enough to remember.

Wimbush running wild against ND is a made-for-Hollywood script lol.

Like the anti-Rudy, in way. (It feels weird saying that, though, because it turns out that the real Rudy is a total twat, while Wimbush is a tremendous dude that is still loved by ND fans despite leaving.)

There is no upside to that game. Spurned QB at underdog U. vs. the goliath ND. ND wins = that was supposed to happen, should've played somebody real. ND loses = overrated, they would've gotten blown out by a bigger opponent.

I wouldn't be able to properly classify my emotional state if I watched Wimbush beat us in a bowl game with a G5 team. What do you call being proud/suicidal?

We haven't won one of the major bowls since the 90s. I don't care if we beat St. Mary's School For the Blind, it's going as a major milestone for me.

Beating a good LSU team didn't count because it was the Citrus. Beating UCF in an NY6 bowl would be a big deal.

You joke, but if you don't think the BCS Bowl/NY6 Bowl thing doesn't come up when OSU is talking to players like Lorenzo Styles....

It's a embarrassing fact that's followed the program around for too long, partly due the nature of us being too marketable for our own good, partly due to us being genuinely mediocre for much of the 2000s. Regardless, I'll be thrilled to get that ESPN television graphic showing zero NY6 bowl wins retired.

Shades of Zach Frazer beating ND after transferring to UConn.

I was at that game. I have never heard the stadium or campus as quiet as it was after UConn won the game. It was like everyone just gave up. People were too defeated to even be mad.

I bet there’s a German word for it, kind of like Elendfruede, which means “misery-joy”

I can't believe that anyone on this site would be rooting for Brandon to beat us. Have a good game? OK.
