What!?!? We have medical professionals on this board who can say whether or not a player plays without ever seeing him practice or examine him

I know athletes that wore boots literally every week. Played every game. And that’s basketball and soccer with multiple games a week. He could be out but it’s more likely he plays than he doesn’t. I’d put it at 85% chance he plays.

I hear what you're saying...but doesn't BK have a history of not necessarily being up front about the severity of injuries?

Lots of coaches do what they can to avoid disclosing injury info. But there's a big difference between not being "up front" and flat-out lying about an x-ray or MRI being clean if it's not.

BK did walk it back ever so slightly at the end by saying it was a "quick turnaround" MRI or some such. Leaves a little wiggle room but he also just said it's a matter of whether brandon feels like he's 100% slash can stick his foot in the ground and do the things he needs to do.

The bar fight thing is 100% bullshit. I'm not sure why anyone believes it. He was already in a boot when he showed up at the parents' post-game tailgate on Saturday.

Agree with dad4aa that he doesn't play this weekend.

That being said, how comfortable are you with Ian?

I agree, no way he plays. With a buy week then USC. He would have almost 3 weeks of healing for USC.

Another reason I wanted Ian during last week for this exact reason. I did state that we need him ready in case of injury, with our track record of injuries to QB we need them ready.

I do like Ian's feel for passing much better than Brandon's. But, Brandon has that improv thing about him that sets him apart. But, Ian is a talented dude too.

Wimbush entered the practice facility on crutches right after BK said this in his presser according to twitter:

"Wimbush is off crutches. Kelly says they will not push him hard today. Will move him around but not in position to have him practice on Tuesday."

Geez, obviously BW was just returning them.

Why are so many people acting like a boot = severe injury?

Guaranteed no way he plays? That seems like a pretty quick jump to conclusion... I know athletes that played with bumps, bruises, sprains repeatedly.

I think it's also due to BK saying he's off crutches, when in reality he's not. Reporters saw him walking into the Gug fully using those crutches with the boot.

Again, I've seen people in boots (with crutches) playing basketball the next day...

As for Kelly, it could be as simple as "he thought" that Brandon wasn't using them, and just the boot...Don't think that proves he's hiding anything.

I think it's the crutches, more than the boot, that have people thinking he takes the week off. Also we're talking about a QB who makes his living with his feet. If he's banged up, playing Saturday may not be worth the risk.

No. Clearly Kelly is a lying bastard who can't be trusted. Fire Kelly.

i dont think ive seen anyone say severe injury. I think most people would rather him get 100% for USC than continuing to play banged up the rest of the year.

Reason not to play him is allow the injury time to heal before they run into the meat of their schedule

If a head coach doesn't know whether or not his starting QB is using crutches or not, he wouldn't have advanced his career past high school football coach.

See Pat Dillingham every time I look at Book for some reason, but that has nothing to do with playing ability.

As a precaution, please be ok #7.

You'd be surprised lol.

Jim McElwain has told reporters three separate times this season that guys were banged up and questionable to play, and those players were like "Lol wut I'm good" on social media.

Sometimes coaches misinterpret what they hear from trainers. Sometimes they don't hear from trainers at all, and make comments to media about outdated plans of care. Sometimes the trainers say one thing, and the student athlete does another, or sometimes a different trainer says "maybe use the crutches anyway as a precaution," thus invalidating what the original trainer told the coach.

*to be clear, it could totally be Kelly trying to mask things. Just saying that, in general, communication between coaches and training staffs is often delayed or overly reliant on word-of-mouth and multiple opinions.

It's entirely possible he expected Brandon to be off them today and hadn't seen him. Nice try.

BK could have meant that the doctors think Wimbush can come off the crutches now and they will tell him that when he gets in the trainers room which is in the building he was walking in to. Or Wimbush could have been off of them, felt something not right and decided to use them to walk to the trainers office to be safe. Or BK is just saying Wimbush will be fine for this weekend so UNC has less time to game plan for Book, so Kelly is putting his first-time starter in better position to be successful. Personally I think its probably more severe than BK is letting on, at least enough to hold him out this week, but not anything that showed up on an MRI.

I think Kelly is aware of what's going on and is trying to mask things. He's the ND football coach and his job is on the line this season, I believe he'd know if Wimbush is on crutches or not.

I'm not ripping BK, I'm fine with him approaching it this way.
