It was awesome to see Dex so hyped after the win, he was dancing like a fool. He just looks like an NFL back, size, speed, etc. Does he have any eligibility left? If so, my hope is having a short season gets him to stay one more year. Screw the doghouse, he needs to be on the field!

only if he doesn't play another third of the season

You get 4 year to play 5, so ... IF he complies with the new redshirt rule this year he could be eligible for a 5th year. In addition to Stanford, play him against VT, and the playoff games ... and keep your fingers crossed.

He'll play the rest of the season making his mark as a matured player and move on to the next level.

From Dexter's ND Bio:
JR SEASON (2017) Saw action in 10 games
SO SEASON (2016) Played in all 12 games, primarily as a reserve running back
FR SEASON (2015) Played in 7games, primarily as a reserve running back

Would love to have him back, but like you said, won't happen. Especially not with Jafar out, and Jones with a ? ankle. He's going to get an op for Sundays if he keeps balling. If he learns to block, could be a 2nd rounder.

dex indeed has the "IT" factor

book's accuracy and ability to move the chains well
on the short and intermediate passing game sets up
dex real well to get to that second level whe the d cannot rest in the box

the depth of the rb unit helps rest banged up players at a punishing
position and takes the pressure off of the freshman jafar
all for the good of armstrong himself and the team

Assuming he's is fully out of the doghouse, and BK played him because he deserved to play (not because of injury), I think he totally proved he deserves to be RB1, or at min, RB1A. Blocking challenges aside, he needs 20 touches a game.

Lol, no doubt. He needs to spend as much time recovering as possible. Ice baths, sauna, hyperbaric chambers, whatever it takes. We need him full go this Saturday

In 8? Idk. 9? Yeah. 10? Oh you better believe it (loses the game ball to Tillery though)

I'm old fashioned - bowl games don't count for season stats. Point being, not hard to imagine Dex averaging +125 yards/game if averaging 15+ carries/game with real passing game to contend with.

Great story. I hope Dex can put up huge numbers this year and earn a draft day spot. He's athletic enough to play in the league.

That's a good mom. Some people need a bit of structure imposed on them to reach their potential, seems like Dex is one of them. I hope her health issues go well.

One thing Dex can do for us besides run mean, eat and earn his draft day spot: Help us lure more RBs to ND

Dex certainly has a flash factor and I think he could help our cause by putting up big numbers the rest of the season.

I hope he's able to keep this up.

If anyone watches the replay, look at Dexter's patience before exploding. It's fantastic, and I would have expected him to be to hyped up to be patient.

Prototypical Sunday RB playing for ND right now. Enjoy it.

If you look at his first run, you can see him lean forward a second early. Luckily the refs didn't see it. But he definitely showed some Le'veon Bell patience on Saturday. Hopefully he stays on track cause we need him the rest of the season.

Agree to disagree (for now).

A prototypical NFL RB can catch 4-6 passes out of the backfield each game for 40-50 yards. Dex isn't there. He's not a true 3 down back which will lower his draft stock come April. If Long is willing to call his number on a wheel route, he better make the most of it. Otherwise he'll be viewed as a 2 down back and get drafted in the 5th-6th round.

Yeah, Dex is no where close to a prototypical, 3 down back in the NFL. He has a lot of work to do.

This "Dex can only run" is group think.

I'm watching the Stanford game now, and at the 20 second mark in the 3rd quarter, he had a great blitz pick up to save Book, and then caught a pass on the next down.

I have no reason to believe he's better/worse at pass pro than any other RB on ND's roster. He's not Zeke Elliot in pass pro, but he's not worse than any other ND RB. He may not be a 3 down NFL starter, but he'll have a NFL career. And a longer one than Josh Adams barring injury.

Ya'll need to trust your eyes and not what the group says in every case.

He caught one pass for a total of -1 yards lol. Are we really gonna try to put a positive spin on that?

And you've just completely changed your narrative. You went from "Dex is a prototypical NFL running back" to he's better than the other running backs on the roster. That is a DRASTIC difference. Notre Dame doesn't have any current sure fire NFL running backs on the roster. Dex has a good chance to maybe make a roster someday, but it certainly isn't a guarantee. And he is no where near Bell, Kamara, Gordon, Johnson, Zeke, Barkley, or Hunt; they are the real prototypical NFL backs

But where are his drops? He also had the best catch of any ND RB last year in the endzone.

Show me the ND RBs that are better in pass pro?

Maybe "prototypical NFL RB" is too far based on how you guys interpret that. If you take that as full time starter maybe that's too far, but he will be the only one with a 4+ year career out of anyone on the current roster, or Josh Adams IMO.

Again, what have you seen that shows he can't catch or can't block as well as the other ND RBs?

Because when he's running, it's not even a debate - he's the best runner by a mile.

Jafar Armstrong will have a long NFL career, I feel pretty confident in saying that. Dex is no where near the receiver Armstrong is.

I don't have the time to go back at rewatch games to see if/where he is messing up in pass pro. But I do recall the staff stating thats why he wasn't getting as many snaps in years past.

Jafar will not play RB in the NFL. He doesn't have the power, doesn't break tackles, and that's a prerequisite. He does have good hands and seems to run routes well so I'll give you that, but he just doesn't run like a NFL RB and that's first and foremost.

Jafar is the 3rd string RB at ND when everyone's eligible and healthy.

He's basically Theo 2.0 and Theo now has 5 years in the NFL. Josh Adams has never ran like a NFL running back and he's in the NFL.

I believe he'll have enough power and tackle breaking ability by the time his ND career is over.

But yeah, he's a RS freshman with a senior and junior in front of him so he kinda should be the third string. If he wasn't, that'd say quite a bit about Dex and Tony.

This is just plane wrong. You are basing Jafar’s chance at the NFL and his running style on 4 games at a position he has never ever played previously. He was a WR his whole life until spring 2018. You don’t think in the next 3 years he will learn how to run low, lower his pads and read blocks. From game 1 to the Wake Forest game there had been noticeable improvement In Jafar’s running style.

Please explain why in 3 years you don’t think Jafar will learn RB traits? Do you think he is slow in the head or something?
