Yeah, as soon as I saw that Armstrong is out, I immediately thought that Dex will be relied upon more and the home run threat will be there. Thats something we haven't had

I hate that Jafar is out, and I hate that Dex is now a "need" instead of a want, but Dex has been my fav for a long time and happy to see him back and balling.

He's got to be hungry, and we know he's fresh!

My feeling is that Jafar being out doesn't increase Dex's touches but increases Avery Davis.

Many people talk as if Dex is a Heisman caliber RB and we haven't seen him in a LONG time. I'd love nothing more than him to stop on the field and be a huge success. But he'll be with a whole different cast of characters. I'd prefer Davis and Jones Jr get the extra carries from Armstrong and bring Dex along slowly until we know he can produce like everyone believes.

I do think Dex will get more carries, but AD will get more passes.

Not Heisman, but definitely the fastest. Not worried about the cast of characters. Same cast as in practice. I'd bet BK/CL will get him early touches, and either increase/decrease based on his output.

I really don't want him to stop on the field though... unless he's in the EZ

Comparing Davis to Dexter is borderline insulting. Not that Avery is bad, but because they are radically different players. I haven't seen the stats, but I'm not sure if Avery has more than a couple of runs between the tackles. He's a split out RB that bounces his runs to the outside.

Dexter is a workhorse with some breakaway ability. This is with no disrespect to Avery or Jafar, but they're not "true" RBs (obviously).

I think Dex is better than Avery at making people miss. I also think Avery goes down too easy. More Dex and less Avery in my opinion

He can be a work horse like Jones, and shifty like Jafar. Much stronger than AD by a country mile. If he could show improvement in blocking, he's easily be our best all around back IMO. Jafar might end up being better than him as he gets more comfortable and learns the position, but not right now.

Exactly! Avery blows over with a breeze and Dexter rips arms off flying thru the hole. We were begging for more Dex against Georgia and Miami last year because he doesn’t tippy toe or wait for holes to develop like Adams would. I hope he has been hit good a few times and holds onto the ball. I really think we can gash Stanford today and put an exclamation mark on our much improved offense with Book in there..

I don't think either Jones nor Williams has established himself as a workhorse. Pinkett was a workhorse. Denson was a workhorse. Guys like Conjar, Green, Worden, Carter, and Aldridge who carried the ball 8 consecutive plays in a game were workhorses. Dexter's most carries in a game is 8. Tony has 3 games in his career with more than 8 carries in a game, 10,13, and 17 against Vandy. The potential is there for both but neither has achieved it to date.

Whether it was lack of blocking ability, competition, injury, or doghouse Dexter missed a bunch of games and generally had limited carries in a game. Rocket wasn't a blocker but Holtz found ways to get him touches in a limited role due to his size.

I suspect both Dexter and Tony as upperclassmen who have spent most of their careers on the sidelines are going to grasp this opportunity. Dexter has shown flashes. He needs to show a body of work against the big dawgs.

He is the only back with that type of quickness. It does help.

I think the term is relative, but.... to me, a work horse for ND's style O is a between the tackles guy that gets 50% of the carries (not counting QB runs). A work horse for a pro style team might be defined differently than a work horse for spread type team...

That said, Jones may not be a "work horse", but he's as close to a work horse as we have. He is a between the tackles, and probably close to 50% (maybe not) . Dex, while having very limited time, could be that type of work horse.

I said touches specifically instead of carries because my thinking was short passing game.

My issue with Jones is that he doesn't run away from defenders like Dex. Maybe he'll show improved burst next year with his ankle healthy. But with Dex... once he gets through the line, if a LB doesn't meet him in the hole they are not going to get the angle on him. He has a lot of ability to produce chunk plays... not Bryce Love level, but he's very good at separating in the second level of the defense.

Wellllllll maybe he's even better than Bryce Love

It was awesome to see Dex so hyped after the win, he was dancing like a fool. He just looks like an NFL back, size, speed, etc. Does he have any eligibility left? If so, my hope is having a short season gets him to stay one more year. Screw the doghouse, he needs to be on the field!
