Should have transferred last year when Kelly black balled him. What a whaste of talent.

Shocker, another bizarre narrative from this guy. Or, he was “banged” up for most of the season and refused to practice at times. He was also visibly hurt at other times, but let’s ignore that as well.

Related: When did/do players go back to campus? Did he?

Couldn't find anything about this year, but last year, BK kicked things off on July 31st, so I assume the kids came back a weekish earlier. The 2017 Fall Practice Schedule wasn't released until a week before they kicked off.....

So realistically, 2 or 2.5 weeks from now I'd guess.

Right. Though I thought it was customary for the team to come back early - maybe late June? - for "voluntary" workouts and such.

Not sure about what is expected (how early). Looks like a bunch of them though.
Was that a coach, or S&C? Thought they couldn't have official practice right now?

Did you see Dex in that clip lol.

Black balled him? You can't be serious.

For a majority of the season, Williams was hurt and unable to contribute at a legitimate level. If you watched the WF game, you saw that his 2nd gear was nowhere to be found, as he hit the open field and then was caught from behind.

Secondly, even when he was healthy, we saw why he was kept off the field. Watch the Citrus Bowl. One play, we watch him go for a big gain. Then the next play, we see him completely whiff on a block and nearly get Book killed. You cannot play the highest level of college football and not at least be adequate in pass catching or blocking. Williams couldn't do either adequately. There's more to the position than carrying the ball.

I think there’s a lot more flexibility on when you can work out with S&C than with regular coaching staff. One reason why S&C is so important. Didn’t catch Dex though.

Yup, I assumed S&C but didn't get a good look.
I'm all for spending max on S&C.

I did find this... which claims Hansen confirmed 4 games.... FWIW..

TBH, a four game suspension, if he comes back clear of the doghouse and ready to play, isn't the end of the world. Yes, he'd miss Michigan, but back for Stanford and then the meat of the schedule. And maybe he doesn't wear down at the end of the season like our prime RBs have tended to lately.

True, but that would be un-Florida-running-back of him. If that's the case, I'd be a huge fan of the kid. BK did sound positive in that vid.

FWIW, Pete Sampson (now at The Athletic) believes that he will be suspended for the first 4 games.

At least we don't play Michigan week 1 and have senior Josh Adams to lead the way
You can look at it another way.

Notre Dame does play Michigan week 1 and at least has a veteran in Tony Jones jr. As for Avery Davis, Jafar and the two freshman Michigan will have zero tape on them, which is a positive. Reminds me of 2004 when favored Michigan came to Notre Dame stadium the second week of the season. This was the debut for a freshman RB from Georgia, who ended up being the star of the game ;)

even if DW was available for the game im sure BK would bench him for tony jones.

This, absolutely this. At least with DW likely suspended, there won't be the incessant whining the first 4 games from everyone about how DW should be getting all the carries blah blah blah.

I have not seen anything yet that would make me believe that DW will start AND get a majority of the carries. I'm afraid that DW will forever be the change of pace back for BK.

Yup. Predicting a breakout game for Jafar week 1. We’ll know we have something special.

Going out on a limb with that one...

Agree. I loved his tape at WR coming out of high school. Probably the most underrated recruit in 2017 class. 247 got it right with their rankings for Jafar, but all others failed.

I saw something really special in Avery Davis in the Spring game.

...... something uncannily good there.

...... hope he can block the blitzer.

Especially against Michigan, as they've got a defense.
For that reason I suspect we'll see a lot of Tony Jones in a cloud of dust that night, with the real game plan to be BW testing them with his arm and legs. Hope he's ready.

Davis will probably never be a lead back. Don’t think he can take the consistent pounding. Davis is your change of pace RB and slot weapon.

Not disagreeing, just curious about your reasoning. Is it simply size. Below is the depth chart from rivals, the first set are RBs, and then added Davis who is listed as the 3rd string QB. Big difference between TJJr and Davis, but not a lot of difference between Davis and Williams/Smith/Flemister. Given Jafar's height, not really a big difference there either. Wonder if the weight/heights are updated?

6 Tony Jones Jr. 5-11 220 Jr. Soph. FL
2 Dexter Williams 5-11 203 Sr. Sr. FL
34 Jahmir Smith 5-10 200 Fr. Fr. NC
8 Jafar Armstrong (WR) 6-1 213 Soph. Fr. MO
20 C'Borius Flemister 5-11 190 Fr. Fr. GA

3 Avery Davis (WR) 5-11 203 Soph. Fr. TX

This essentially is why I wasn't banking on Williams in the first place to be the difference maker. As much of a difference he can make with his burst, he has shown absolutely nothing to this point to indicate that he can pass block adequately, and in this game, they're gonna need it, especially if Eichenberg and Hainsey get overwhelmed by two darn good ends.

What are we setting his O/U at for carries? 2.5?

Think anyone hoping for a heavy dose of him will be severely disappointed.

I agree that his load will be light...but A little higher than 2.5. Maybe 7? As I remember he wasn't a great blocker...so if he's in the game he's probably getting the ball.
