several sources are indicating that According to bylaw 14.5.6 in the NCAA transfer guide, Barnett as a 4-2-4 transfer (four-year institution, to a junior college, and back to a four-year institution), can be eligible one calendar year from the date of his transfer from Alabama so long as he graduates with a GPA above 2.5 over an average of 12 hours per term at the certifying institution of Barnett’s choosing

some sources said this is correct while some other sources said still isn't going to happen...BUT this is why he is making the move NOW in an attempt

Alabama QB Blake Barnett has more options than you think as a transfer

So under this newer bylaw, he could dump all his Bama credits into a juco in the spring, graduate with an associates in a semester or maybe two quarters. Join the new team in the summer and be eligible a year from the day he gets his release from Bama, missing only like the first 4-5 games of the year... I think.

There is zero advantage with this plan if he's going to UCLA because he ain't playing next year with Rosen there.

We had on OL or TE do this in the Weis years. He hit a Junior College before going to Stanford which allowed him not to miss a year.

Think it was the OLman from Floyd's HS.

Maybe it was the TE Konrad Reuland (think that was his name). I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: It was Reuland. Here is an article about him transferring, our TE depth back then was insane.
Konrad Reuland Transfering From Notre Dame // UHND.com

Double Edit: After looking at the stats, Reuland transferred in September of 2007 and didn't play with Stanford until 2009. I think he did the Junior College route in order to go to Stanford and not need ND to release him, which I'm not sure we would have done since they are on our schedule every year.

He might be smarter to go to Sparty. They have 3 guys who played QB in the NFL this past Sunday.

PS That is such a weird fact btw. Not exactly what you think of for QBU.

Cousins, Hoyer and Stanton?

Will Saban release him to an SEC school? Seems unlikely.

I thought he was going Bama --> Juco --> New School to get around having to sit out a full season. If he does that, I don't think Saban has a say, and that's part of why he left mid season.

From what I have read, that is correct.

Ahh gotcha. I missed the JUCO part of the story. I thought he already had enough credits for his associates.

Meh. What percentage of QBs who transfer after losing out on the depth chart are ultimately successful? (Let's define success as winning 2/3 of games at new school and getting drafted) Not that many, really.
And I'd bet the percentage of top-ten-recruit QBs leaving blue-chip programs who succeed at a new school is even lower (looking at you, Gunner Kiel).
I know these kids, for the most part, don't see it this way, but you're better off waiting your turn. Especially at a program like Alabama. It'll come.

?

How could he wait his turn, the person who beat him out is a true freshmen and he is a RS Freshmen?

Also I think that it depends on the transfer. For example right now Knight is playing well for A&M, Mayfield for Oklahoma, and Webb for Cal, and Hill for TCU. That isn't even including Williams for Utah, Nelson for ECU, Kelly for Ole Miss and Finley for NC St (heck even Nathan Peterman and Riley Ferguson have played pretty well this year).

What do all of those people have in common? They transferred. Now I do agree that many transfers never amount to anything and even some of those that I listed that have played well won't ever see a NFL roster, but still they have all been pretty good to great this year.

The thing I found most interesting in the MLive article is that he would have to miss the beginning of the season wherever he goes as he has to sit out until the anniversary of his transfer day.

Something about having enough credits to transfer to a juco and finish his degree fairly quickly. So at that point he would then be a grad transfer and could play right away. So basically he can see the field as soon as he completes his degree thru the Juco.

Things may have changed, but it used to be Juco's typically only offered two year degrees. If that's still true he's not playing as a grad transfer. If true, he better light it up in that one year or he won't get much of a sniff from the NFL.

I don't know what the exact situation was. But they did say he can take his credits, transfer to juco and graduate, and then play like halfway thru the season.
