It would make sense if depth chart was a factor Saban/Kiffin could've just said we plan on switching to a run based spread and everyone recruited in prior years was a pro style QB. You come here you will have an excellent chance to start early given your skill set.

Has a Saban or Kiffin coached team ever featured a run-based spread offense? That is a tremendous leap of faith for someone to take. Saban has won a ton of games with a power running game, and Kiffen has always featured a pro-set passing attack. If Barnett wants to run an offense that he knows is going to be a spread, it isn't hard to find one that isn't just a promise.

I'm obviously late to the party but... what?

I think academically, athletically and as a person as well, I think it will develop me the best for my life in general. I fell in love with the campus itself and with the facilities obviously, but I think what Alabama can develop me to be is what really convinced me.

Dude is going to 'Bama so he can go to class and become a better person?

Stop taking things at face value. You can't expect him to come out and say he is going to Bama because he wants to breeze through class so he can be a good football player.

He wants to play, and he wants to go to the league. Those are his number one priorities. Technically, he may be right. Academically, it's easier, so that may actually be the best fit for him. Degree value seems to be irrelevant.

Someday he hopes to be a man who understands the meaning of commitment ... a man of his word.

There are ways to omit certain truths without lying. He could have said "I really connected with Coach Saban" and completely left out academics. What he said is the equivilant of saying "I decided to take my vacation Florida instead of Maine because of the great skiing Florida offers."

He'll end up at Oregon or somewhere completely random.

my immediate thought was he committed to Bama, with the intention of ending up at Oregon.....maybe to take the heat off Hopkins/247? Maybe to take the heat off ppl saying he was going to ORE because he was afraid of competing for starting job? Maybe there is something else going on that hasn't come to light yet

if Hopkins did say that 'this isn't over yet' I think most would agree.

Seriously, when you produce the OL and RB talent that Alabama does EVERY YEAR, why change? Most of the time they could run 100% of snaps and still win games.

In the NCG we were facing an O-line featuring 2 1st round picks, 1 2nd round pick, a 4th round All American, and the future NFL offensive ROY running back. No real reason to get too creative with that.

It's that chick that knew all along she was going home with the dude in the corner even though she was dancing and drinking with a couple of others all night.

You mean I'm not the only one to ever wax a girl's skis all night only to see her head down the slopes with someone else?

My quick searches around the interwebs seem to think that Saban/Kiffin are switching to a run-based spread, which would fit a "balanced" type of QB like Barnett. What say you, resident Bama expert (Bishop, feel free to jump in as co-expert)?

As others have pointed out, Saban's had plenty of success with a power running, pro passing attack. That's just who he is as a head coach and I don't see him ever getting too far away from that. However, he's made it clear several times recently that he'd like to add wrinkles, have the option and ability to spread things out and speed up the pace in certain situations, and just expand the O's repertoire some. I think he wants to stick with our bread & butter, but add another dimension to it and that's why he brought in Kiffin and is going after a qb like Barnett.

Can't really blame Barnett

Play for National Titles
Play with number 1 recruiting classes
Unreal football facilities
Playing in the SEC
Play for Saban
Only need about 13 points a game to win because that defense is just gross
Have dinner with Kiffins wife

Boss move by Saban, have Oregon do all the work to make him decommit then swoop in and snag Barnett.

One thing I will say though is he just didn't strike me as an SEC kid, kind of like Gunner. Blake reminds me of a quiet like Midwest kid. Hopefully he tears it up at Bama because I think he is one of the top 2 QB's in the country. Ha jk fuck Bama

But most importantly fuck Justin Hopkins. Time for some of you to move on and leave the sour grapes in the fridge

I am not upset at all over Barnett, I was bummed when he decomitted. Who wasn't? I was very upset with Justin Hopkins. Him and I went at it on twitter for a couple days because he acted like a clown.

meh.... was very excited with his commit, but after the emotional let down........ QB was not a priority this year, and this guy is all over the place. Potentially dodged a bullet. Perhaps a Gunner 2.0

Wait until he finds out what Nick Saban is really like. Saban had a reputation while at MSU of being a real *****. He can recruit and he can coach, but I wouldn't want my son's character molded by Saban.

Bama puts more talent in the NFL than any other team. If your mentality is that you want to play semi-pro football for 3 years, there's no better place to go.
