The relaxing a few days shows maturity and bodes well for us I would believe. Let's just see this play out before we all become lemmings.

Should have saw this coming honesty. Junior Day with other kids from his class with activities planned vs being the only recruit on campus with a lot of the current players gone for the weekend.
Having said that, he'll come back around. There is nothing Michigan has over ND. Especially for what Elijah is looking for.

2 days. 2 campuses. 2 #1's. This seems like it will an anxiety promoting recruitment. The kind that typically doesn't go in ND's favor (Eddie V excluded). I'm not going to hold my breath.

Do I dare ask what makes their visit more special than ours? What do they do?

Ann Arbor is just a straight up better city. Has much more of a college atmosphere. One of the more liberally advanced cities in the country (especially the midwest), more students, more to do, and still another beautiful campus.

With that said, the fact it was their junior day, they probably were able to keep him more entertained than ND.

Still a long way to go, race isn't even close to over.

He's not coming for our junior day, correct? Would really suck to not land this kid, but then again I was counting the chickens before they hatched.

I'd say it helped them a ton having other recruits on campus, we should have tried to schedule another recruit or two to be there with him. or try to get him up again for our junior day.

Important to remember this recruitment will be a marathon not a sprint, Elijah has seemed very mature and will look over all his options and weigh everything with consideration. UM itself is a fine school academically and has premier football, he could do a lot worse. Though I believe Whiskey has the graduation rates for athletes, and ND is far better than UM in that department. In the end, I still feel he will be Irish

Michigan is like more other good academic schools with a football program -- they keep their players far from academics.

Really only Stanford, ND and maybe Northwestern are good/excellent academic programs that also hold their football players to high standards. Everyone else just sells academics that their average football player will never experience.

I think I mentioned that when I talked about Whiskey's ROI for football players chart. Many players don't graduate/take courses in "meh" fields.

I don't know though, say Elijah wants to major in business. Will the football program at a place like Michigan say "No, you can not major in that. It will take you away from football too much. You can major in (insert meaningless degree here)"

Maybe, maybe not. But, if we wants a business degree, ND is #1 in the country for undergrad.

The issue with Michigan is you apply for the business school after frosh year, so they select based on frosh GPA and ACT. ND you get in by default. Michigan actually places into competitive places like Wall Street a little better than ND (ND probably has better placement out West though)

Even ND business students realize Businessweek is a joke. The survey weighed student happiness a lot which ND wins because they make an effort to get everyone to turn in surveys. Any survey with Wharton or MIT not #1 is a joke. ND is still very good though, and for a kid like Hood who I assume has an ACT below 30 he's not getting into UM's B school so ND is the logical choice.

Michigan is off to a great start recruiting.

This is at least a couple kids who had us #1 and then favored UM soon after.

We're simply being out recruited. And I think a lot of it has to do with how their commits are recruiting compared to ours.

Can't afford to blow it with this guy.

Who are the others who had nd #1 and now um besides hood? Outrecruited? Did you say this last feb too? Good lord. We just finished 2013 with a higher ranked class and most likely will in 2014. Nd is off to a great start for 2014 as well.

Don't think we need to worry about that just yet. We were saying the exact same thing last year and ended up smashing their class IMO. We'll close some of these studs soon enough. The staff knows something we don't (as always)

True. But what worries me is when they start recruiting players outside the midwest and locking them down early. UM isn't as much of a national recruiting school as ND.

UM used to be a force nationally when Carr and Moeller were coach. I remember them getting a lot of California and Florida kids back then. Not so much any longer.

Per 247 Michigan is right up there with Notre Dame and he enjoyed his visit to Michigan more. He doesn't know if he will visit them again or not

IMO this would be a huge loss. 5 star kid who is a heavy ND lean and then you lose him to a rival. Can't let that happen.
