I am only guessing here, but he probably didn't do many camps during the off-season.

No they aren't. From Jeff Howe on Texas 247:

Dallas Bishop Dunne four-star cornerback Nick Watkins is not on the board for the Longhorns at this time. Watkins told me at Bishop Dunne's spring game that he hadn't talked to Texas since March, and based on what he told Blake Munroe at the Camp of Conquerors on Saturday it hasn't improved since then.

You can pretty much write that one off. Texas just does not appear all that interested.

I mentioned this on the board, but it's worth repeating. After my trip to Dallas Bishop Dunne I switched my Crystal Ball prediction from Texas to Notre Dame for Watkins.
Watkins told me has hasn't talked to Texas in some time. The Longhorns have been out to see him this spring, but things seem to be going nowhere. I'm not sure if there was something said by one party to the other, but Watkins has three official visits in mind – Notre Dame, UCLA and Alabama – and it doesn't sound like Texas is at the front of the line to get one of the final two visits at this time.

It's more Watkins doesn't want Texas than the other way around. He has a Texas offer but I think they've conceded he's leaving the state. If he was showing any interest they'd be on him like white on rice. They are struggling big time with DB recruiting. Brown, Springs and Adams are appearing very unlikely. So far they only have a 3 star 5-9 kid from Loiusiana. There is no way they turn away a top recruit from their home state who has been recruited heavily by the likes of ND, Bama, Georgia, LSU, etc. IMO I think Watkins knows exactly where he's going.

Just asked this question on The Blue Board on 247:

Is the Skills on the 1-10 scale supposed to be an explanation for the prospects rating?

My question stems from Nick Watkins 90 Rating here on 247, a large drop from his original ranking. Why did that happen? Was he dropped just because he didn't do camps?
Then I noticed he was given a 10 - 7 - 7 - 7 - 7 - 8 - 7 - 8 on his CB skills and compared that to someone ranked much higher Cameron Denson, a 95 Rating yet his skills are given as follows: 8 - 7 - 7 - 7 - 7 - 8 - 6 - 8. What's up with that? The skills rating would seem to indicate Watkins is the better prospect.

And to add a little more substance to this bump, here's what Scout had to say about Thomas' performance at The Opening after naming him a top 5 DL performer:

Solomon Thomas (6'3, 256) - Coppell (Texas)
Possibly the most consistent defensive linemen from Day One to Day Three, Thomas has great strength and a motor that doesn't turn off. One of the most technically sound participants in the entire event, Thomas used that with his power to have a sterling performance all week.

Do you really take those "skills ratings" to mean anything relevant?

TE #1:
6-6, 220 lbs.
Size - 9

TE #2:
6-6, 210 lbs
Size - 8

Seems to (kind of) make sense... right? Well...

Size - 4

In other words, they're just making stuff up.

That's why I think they're ignoring the question. There is no correlation between skill ratings and overall ratings when there obviously should be. This really surprises me as 247 seems to be better than this.

247 has yet to win me over. For now I'll stick to Rivals for football evals and Scout for basketball evals.
